Thread: Krayt Flamer Thrower (Results)
Done some testing on a Krayt Flamethower and though you might like the results...
First, though I'll sum it up like this . . . If you can afford it (time and/or money).. Do it.
I started with my weaponsmith of choice (the one with the best existing FT stats).
His base FT was 832 damage, 4.8 speed.
I had Krayt Tissue with +38dam/-.38speed.
Gave that to him and with an Amazing result on the handlers,my FT was 882dam/4.4speedunsliced. (Not sure why the dam was 50+ over his base, so maybe the amazing the success did it?)
I then got a CRAPPY slice (doh), 18% damage. That gave me a final product of 1040dam/4.4 speed. Not bad, but remember... I did NOT use the best Krayt that exists,50/.50 should beavailable without too much trouble. (I've heard of higher, but I'm sticking to regularly attainable here). So... a +50 could easily net a 900dam FT. Then there was my slice.. very disappointing... I've received as much as a 30% increase before, soooo that means a 30% slice on you're 900 turns to... 1170... with a 4.4 speed. Or.. heaven forbid you get a speed slice... 4.4 @ 30% slice gives you a 3.1 speed... at 900 damage... I won't even bother with the DPS, its good.
I don't know about you folks... but I'm trying for better. Yes, yes... a great slice on a good gun will net better than I got... but a great slice on a greatKRAYT gun... OMG the possibilities.
Just for kicks....
Assume a 850dam/4.8speed base gun, with 60/-.6 krayt and a 40% slice.
for damage ... 910+(.4X910)=1274dam/4.2speed
for speed ... 4.2-(.4X4.2)=910dam/2.52speed. (double checked that calculation... its right).
Hunting anyone?
That is a nice FT. Too bad about the middling quality slice, but it's still a nice weapon.
I myself almost aways pray for a speed slice. The damage slice is a good thing, but (unlike withsay pistols) no ever has speed modifiers so good that he has to worry about hitting a weapon speed cap with a FT.
Also, when you do the math, because of the way they use weapon speed in this gamea 1% speed improvement has a better dam/sec advantage than a 1% damage improvement (assuming you don't hit the weapon speed cap...which I doubt any Commando ever will with our specials).
The truth is the MOST important thing is to find a weaponsmith who uses the best materials available. And that means finding a WS who HORDES the best materials that have ever appeared and saves them for special occasions. If you can find those WS, convince them to part with those recources, then your Krayt FT will likely be worth the extra time/cost (though what esle do have to do with your time in-game?).
As I've said elsewhere, I've seen Krayt enhanced FTs with stats that are comparable to my own non-Krayt FT...so there's some luck involved.
Ouch.. a 2 star? Man.. rough... oh well.. thought it may have been useful...
Theedage.. I'm jealous... but I'll be hunting for more... I know I can do better! ![]()
I am atm harvesting and also saving the better resources needed for my Krayt FT
when I hit flame 3 on this weekend and also HWS 2 Ill get myself a bigger group, some HPBCs/RLs an new and good sliced FT and go out Krayt hunting.
I really wanna have those 79 or even 101 tissues with -6.5 and -7.5 (somevalues like this)
After I achieved this I plan on gettin me a RL made also using exceptional materials and Kliknik Glands in the proton grens, Krayts in the ABPHs and some good luck with the slice.
This RL will then be spent on special occasions... ![]()
I've thought about this a ton as I have quite a bit of 30/.3 krayt tissue in my inventory and I still don't think krayt tissue less than 50/.5 is really worth the investment into a FT unless you have no friends with pistols and don't use a LP yourself. You're adding less than 10% to the base values of the weapon....the only aspect that tempts me is the speed, but for dmg, any improvement you see is completely negated by a decent slice. Case in point...
Noitcopa got essentially a 6% improvement in dmg on his FT by adding krayt tissue (50/832=.06). Then he got a very crappy slice....18%. His end dmg was 1040. Suppose he just took the original FT and sliced it....if he got a 25% slice (which must of us have managed and then some) he'd have the same FT. The final product is negated by the slice.
Apply the same tissue to a LP and you are adding more than 10% to the base dmg...almost 20% if the base is 200 (common base for LPs). Now you are talking a real gain in the DPS of the weapon. Combined with a 30% slice and you are over 50% of the base dmg, which is a substantial gain.
I'm going to do a krayt tissue ft if I can find that elusive 50/.5 and up tissue. At this point is mostly novelty though...b/c I'd be contemplating the opportunity costs of wasting it on a FT vs making a more uber LP.
Hehe what sucks is mine is 500-890 3.2 speed.
I used +32 dmg -.8 speed krayt tissues. Only got a 19% speed slice on it though
.
I'm gonna hunt some more krayts later and try to get more.
Once again yes, 40% slices are possible, just unlikely to ever happen in the case of a flamethrower, much less one assembled with Krayt parts, but 40% is indeed possible.
