Thread: Advantages to Being a Commando?

Alright... I have been a Master Commando since December and have loved the profession ever since... however I am a logical person and have to rationalize everything that I do... Therefore please help me answer this question:


"What advantages does a Master Commando have, that another profession cannot do better?"


Before this answer was simple: we were masters at PvE... but now (especially after our DOT nerf a few months ago), I am not so sure about that anymore... My time on the game is now approximately 90% spent hunting krayts and I have witnessed Master Rifleman outdamage me easily and steal the loot.

This is just one example, but please help me understand.

Awww, please don't discourage me. I am a newbie commando and I am in it for the big, sexy guns. I like explosions, and fire, and... well, explosions. I have been having fun so far, even if I miss. I hope it doesn't get old when I fire off a rocket or light something on fire. Heck, I even like shooting Tusken Captains with my acid rifle (which I don't have a single box of yet).


I know I can't really field this question because of my lack of experience, but it is the least boring ranged profession in my opinion. Sure, it probably isn't as effective as it should be right now, but I am keeping my hopes up that whatever needs to be changed will be changed.


And did I mention we make just about everything blow up in a big explosion?

Being a Shock Trooper I do between 5-10k damage usually. Thats our advantage. We are simply great in PVE. And he's right, we get to blow things up. I love the Launcher Pistol.. explosives are where it's at.



Wanted: Someone to go back in time with me...This is not a joke...You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons...Safety is not Guranteed...I have only done this once before...

A commando's role is PVP is to irritate the other faction in a big battle when tef fighting. Setting an entire rebel player squad on fire as they heal up in your base really keeps em busy while the others move in.

Okay, I just turned novice commando, and my reason behind this may not be super legit, but I here's why I think commandos are the greatest. I just got my first launcher pistol and went around blowing the bejeezus out of anything that moved. I could not stop laughing. I walked up to a kreetle, body shot 2 and blew it to oblivion. It was just to entertaining for words. So, our #1 advantage has to do with the awesome factor. Our weapons just look awesome.

As everyone else said we are PVE gods, but i think most of us do it because its fun!!! At least thats why I am doing it!

I like the explosions and the fact that I can kill a noob critter spawn with one animation from our wonedrful lag pistol. The Flame animations are great.

I used to think we were PvE gods too...

till I took up TK, I can kill twice as fast with my TK skills at alot less risk.

oh and to the guy above that said something about the awesome factor...That gets old after you get sick of killing kreetles...

the only animation that sucks is the normal attack fo the HAR... it's very lame, considering the size of the HAR...

Hmm...



1) FIRE!!!!!!


2) I can shoot people with rocket launchers


3) I can use every dmg type


4) I am a PvE God


5) did I already say FIRE!!!?


6) Burning Ewoks


7) Being in a group and floating 17k dmg above a target


8) Its not the size of the weapon that counts, but the power


9) Grenades + burst run = PvP fun


10) Jedis dont like fire


11) no one can steal my kills


12) did I already say FIRE!!??


and most important...Commando is FUN!!!

I dunno I've recently been reading a lot on commandos now as I'm like 3/4 to master and well maybe it wasnt the best decision after all. I dont want to seem like a whiner, but we are getting shafted. First off we must pay about 169 Points to become Master Commando, that leaves us with 31 Points for other skills, what the heck are u going to be with 31 Points? Therefore a MCommando will never be a multi functioning weapon such as TKA'sor Fencers and so forth. High End NPCs (night sisters and such) all have very high Heat and Blast Res sometimes going to 100%, for me, without a Fencer or TK tanking them, I can 1 Get Overwhelmed or 2 Get taken out. Some say we are the masters at PvE.... only when they arent resistant to our best weapon the flame thrower. Our weapons look kewl? Ya, so what, I'd rather blow something up and be an effective soldier than look kewl. PvP? PvP for a commando is non existant, with the current status of Fencers and TK's combination of Dizzy, and Knockdown, we have no chance. We have a small opertunity to burn the living poo out of our enemies, but after that ONE shot, we're doomed. We are not built like a tank but more like a one shot LAW Rocket. Riflemen can even whack a Commando just cuz they hit the mind with such power. And as said before, with all the time spent in learning weapons, it turns out that the weapon a Commmado will use is the Flame Thrower, BH's can go back to their carbine, pistol or their new and fancy Lightning Cannon. BH's also get their special armor and the extermly effective bomb droid. I really dont mean to whine or complain, but Commandos are getting the shaft.
