Thread: Commandos should fo the most damage.
I see a lot of people talk about balance but I believe that if they balance classes too muchthey starts to lose their own individuality.
This is how I think things should work without going into any real details.
Bounty Hunters should be able to beat any one profession in a straight one on one fight.
Riflemen should be able to beat any one profession that they get the drop on (from surprise).
Commando should do the most damage.
Now what does this all means? A Bounty Hunter can beat a Commando but he better not make to many mistakes or hes dead. A rifle man can beat a Commando but he better make sure that first shot counted or else. A Commando can is here to keep the rest of them on their toes, Also if there is any heavy equipment or fortress that need a hole in it there you go.
Even with all this in place does it mean a Commando will lose or should lose every fight against these professions? The answer is NO. Player skill and tactics will alter this equation a lot and THATS the fun part! Isnt it more rewarding knowing that you overcame the odds because of your own ingenuity?
If you want to be the best at killing people play a bounty hunter or maybe even a rifleman. If you want to do gobs of damage and just see stuff die from fire or melt with acid.. play a commando.
This brings up something else I wanted to point out after reading some of the negative BH post (There really wasnt many buta few).
Bounty Hunter is defined by his skills. His skills are what allows him to kill any other character. His weapons do not have to do any more damage then they do.
Rifleman is defined by his rifle. Yes his skill level means something but not as mush as the Bounty Hunters.
Commando is defined by the sheer number of weapons and the insane damage he can pull out of his arsenal.
But remember this last thing. Image designers own PvP ![]()
Commando is defined by how badly your class is nerf'd.
The defining feature according to DEV's is yer ability to do massive damage to large tanks, armored craft of various sorts.
Not players ![]()
If all classes were balanced the Galactic Civil War would go on forever with no difinitive victories, and the combat classes would start to yell nerf on the artisan classes 'cause they rule in PvP.

Thats the funniest thing i have ever heard. Your telling us that the developers are wrong about their own game and classes that they have designed with certain things in mind. This is so wrong on so many levels its not even funny lol. The BH should have an advantage over anyone 1 on 1, but become less and less valuable as targets are up-armored and as more and more targets are on us at once. This is like saying commandos shouldn't be the best at taking out heavy armored targets, and anyone that thinks differently has been brainwashed by the devs.
everyone forgets...
commandos need the most combat skills, bh needs only master marksman - and master scout isnt considered combat
since TKA can use VB's now, unarmed is a chore to lvl up
the specials on commando weapons take 15 secs to recharge - the first shot is what really counts, and it should do insane damage not to mention the specialsshould be only use sparingly
the hvy weaps where u cant equip give u a vulnerability to meleers
even on master commando, u still get a 50/50 chance to hit i think on RL
we get only 8 specials (which are only for two weapons plus are really duplicates of each other)
our primary gun, the launcher pistol, gets no specials nor skill mods - forcing us to take another elite prof, pistoleer
all our weapons except for lp/HAR/flamethrower have finite charges, are rare, and expensive
all our weapons except for lp/har/flamethrower do not get specials
we're a novice marksman with our levels at novice commando
in order to be effective with our weapons we need at least III or IV lvls in a given branch, which is nearly a million experience required (i believe over 4 million xp required for master commando)

and people think we NEED BALANCING??
no edit button!!
we're novice marksman with our hvy weapons when we're at novice*
Sorry but I have to disagree with this in general. SOE seems to have defined commando as, "A heavy infantryman, with good all around combat skills - who focuses on heavy support weapons."
There is no stealth component of commando, there is no hint of "gods of close range combat" etc - in what they have done with commando. They seem to clearly intend commandos to be the masters of "support" class weapons.
Which leaves us with:
Rifleman - snipers, best at one shots, long range duels etc
Carbineers - jack of all trades assault troops, decent at any range (which is why the empire uses them almost exclusively)
Pistoleers - best in close quarters, best short-range skills of the weapon users, best at moving fire/fast fire
TKAs and all melee types - honestly I see these as being best vs creatures and best in actual melee range (I'd rather stand off a Gurreck or Rancor with a force pike than a DL-44!)
Commandos - masters of heavy weapons, best damage vs vehicles and structures - demolitions would be nice, masters of "odd" area effect weapons like the flamethrower which should be situationally deadly.
now here are the tricky ones:
Bounty Hunter - good all around fighter, but should he be better than a rifleman/carbineer/pistoleer at that speciality? Heck no - unless he takes a fair bit of that line as well. BH's specialized skills should be in finding targets, ambushing etc - not pure combat.
Smuggler - good close range fighter, but same deal- shouldn't be better than a specialist in that field, their abilities are elsewhere.
