Thread: Combat Changes on test

Any commando on test can check if we get melee or ranged mitigation in the command tree and in what skill line (my guess would be field tactics).

The new way specials cost max HAM, instead of costing HAM damage looks very very interesting.
Quite a balance change, especially for rifleman, since the recovery rate of that used HAM seems much faster then normal regen. Still unclear if its based on secondary stats though. But if this goes live, using specials is more or less equal for all classes, and not like before, where most classes could heal their special costs, while rifleman coult not.

Yes, indeed it looks interesting. Meaning our HAM drain problems are much less severe. Just speculating a bit, but if willpower does not affect this regeneration rate, it would mean that riflemen could transfer a lot of points from willpower to focus. As the regeneration is mostly needed after loosing ham due to firing a lot, seldom to getting damaged.
This wasn't the only change though. Read up on the damage mitigation posted by the pistoleer correspondent.

Exactly how this works is a bit unclear. It clearly lowers the damage you can take if you got the proper mitigation. But I'm not sure it is a percentage of the max damage, or if it just caps the maximum damage. The difference being that the later case would mean all hits that should do more damage than the cap are instead set to the cap. The difference is that this means that in more than 50% of the cases we would still hit that cap. It's a bit unclear I know, but I suppose we can just wait and see.
Of course this isn't as great for us (except against Bounty Hunters who get no ranged mitigation, meaning they hurt us less and we hurt them as much). But it will mean we'll do less damage to most other ranged professions, allowing them to get closer to us before they can be killed. This isn't really a problem except for pistoleers and commandos, as carbineers probably don't want to get up in your face either. But still might make it tricker against master commandos.

Thanks for posting the link to that thread...It's been a hot topic here (mitigation) over the month (guess we jumped the gun on releasing the info...lol).
One thing I've heard that wasn't mentioned in this post is that when Mitigation comes...2.5x Melee Bonus Damage goes...it'll be gone...we'll be FREE!!!
I'll have to jump on Test Center in the next few days to check out if this is true (the 2.5 thing)...if anyone else has, please let us know...
As for the levels to get certain Mitigations...I'm guessing the Master Levels will have the highest Mitigations...They Mentioned that Pistoleer had Mitigation Level 3...so Commando Master has to have at least that...and if that's correct, combining Master Commando and Master TKA should mean that the player should have both Ranged & Melee Mitigation Level 3...
It's interesting that, according to the post, BH and Smuggler will have Melee Mitigation...does this mean they will have both, or just Melee...and if they have both, will it be lower level's of either...this is something else worth checking into...
For those who can't see what this is actually doing (and it's not a bad thing), instead of killing us with a melee damage bonus or nerfing our weapons outright so they do less damage, they are pumping up everyone's defenses so in essence, our weapons will do less damage and battles will last longer...Something to watch out for in the future, if the Dev's don't give Melee classes some type of Range mitigation we will hear them scream bloody murder and cry nerf all over again, because of they remove the 2.5x melee damage bonus and don't give them and Ranged Weapon Mitigation we will be doing full damage to them all over again...the same thing that made them cry Nerf in the first place and one of the issues leading to us getting a 2.5x penalty...
The Dev'smay have already figured this out, and instead of giving them Ranged Mitigation, they may have just left us with the 2.5x Melee Damage Bonus...and if this is the case, we are actually worse off then we were before (as a ranged class, not talking dabbling outside Commando)...I say this because not only will we take a 2.5x Melee Damage bonus still, but if the Melee fighter plays their pts right, we'll actually do them less damage thanks to Ranged Mitigation (if they get a ranged profession as a secondary)...Just something to think about and keep an eye open for...Whom ever becomes our Correspondent will need to focus on this issue before it bite's us in the butt...it's easier to get it fixed before it goes into play then after (from what I've seen).
Conceal shot is nerfed unless I'm missing something.
Sniping tree gets "Rifle Concealment Chance"
Description: This mod allows you to attack a mobile without attracting the attention from other mobiles nearby. You must be far enough away from the mobile for this to work properly.
GAH!
Damage mitigation is in Concealment box 1 and then 3 with ranged damage mitigation 3 at master.
but then surely the carb and pistol masters that dabble in the BH lines will become pretty 'l33t' ?? getting both ranged and some melee damage mitagation? or am i missing something....
<this is not a rant/bitch - merely an observation>
Also, if I understand this correct, now it's time to remake your char and choose Human this time. Because they seem to be much favoured by this system due to their high secondaries. Klawlegna, can you please log into test and let us know how bad HAM cost are for us now with 500/500 (most races) secondaries, with 1100/1100 (Human / buffed other races) secondaries and with 2200/2200 (buffed Human) secondaries? I really would go and do it myself, but it would take me about 2 month to level to Master, and I'm afraid that will be too late. Thanks.

Eh they are gimping everyone elsesspecial use it seems to me, you can no longer stim away special HAM cost damage if I'm reading the pistoleer correspondents post correctly.
being a rifleman i cant say im too upset at that bit of info
guess someone is gonna have to go check things out on TC and get some 'real' rifleman orientated info.
