Thread: For better or worse...
Have you noticed the number of players leaving this game in recent weeks, and the dramatic increase of people threatening to leave?
I know part of it is due to other games that have come out recently, but a large number of them are upset over the silence from you guys.
I know you can't give away everything about the upgrade just yet, but it's supposed to be massive, isn't it?
Would it be so bad to go to each profession board and give them *one* specific thing they're getting from the upgrade? If it's a new weapon, you show them a concept drawing, tell them what it is, what it does, and rough stats for it. If it's a new skill, you explain to them in detail what the skill is and how it works.
I'm sure the respective correspondents can help you isolate which singular item their profession would like to know about most.
You'd be giving away, what, about 33 solid facts about the upgrade? With as big as this thing is supposed to be, that's not too much to ask.
It would go a long way towards calming down the players andrestoring some faith.
Just a thought.
I think just a little tidbit per profession like that will help put us all more at ease. I'm hoping they will respond, and that they will agree.
Dunno bout the rest of you, but 'm tired of being totally in the dark here. Time for them to give us a damn flashlight.
Thx for the idea! I'll run it around.
You should start seeing more info about it regardless...
At least he didn't ignore me. I hope they take my suggestion, and take it seriously.
It may not be much, but I think that at this point, anything is better than nothing (and better than "be patient").
But personally, I won't hold it against them if they don't say anything until next year. Hmm, that makes it sound like a long time...
What I'm saying is this: If they say "Rifleman will get ___ mods/stats and the RoxorZmyBoxorZ Special Ability." But if it is changed/deleted sometime during the whole Combat Rebalance development, Beta testing, and tweaks, people will hold it against the devs.
I of course see it the way players see it... not much communication. That, and in combination with the horrendous delays, is what drives some people out. Hell, I only joined in February, but I was looking at that Cancel button every now and then. The delays, broken professions, bugs, lack of adherence to continuity, and a dead GCW, are more factors that make me look at the Cancel button.
But I'm trying to hold out and hopefully see some sort of Golden Age for SWG.

Wow, a response, maybe I should be more diplomatic when I pm devs.
Nahhhh....
Have you noticed the number of players leaving this game in recent weeks, and the dramatic increase of people threatening to leave?
Honestly, they don't care. No, really. There are enough new people coming into the game that they don't really care. I've heard and read people threatening to leave since Beta 1. If you have to threaten and make it a point to let everyone know that you intend to leave, then you need attention. If you want to leave, then go. This is a GAME, not a second job. Play it if you have fun, if not, then walk away. Personally I still have two accounts, but hardly play anymore. I am waiting for the CU, which unbeleivably I think will actually be good. Once this happens I will re-evaluate the game and see if it was worth it. I hope it will be, and will begin to spend more time in-game. If not, oh well.

Oh well, it happens. I've been playing EQII a bit. Once again, they don't really care. Accept it, or drive yourself bonkers.

Its pretty cool. Massive? I wouldn't say that, at least not in my opinion. What specifically do you want to know? I think it will be great for the commando profession. We are probably one of the professions getting the most attention.

Nope, not so bad. And if you pay close attention to some of the posts Garvin has made, you would have your answer. But one problem is, that no matter what you do people will complaiin. If a dev came in here right now and did EXACTLY as you asked, and gave you the info on a SPECIFIC new weapon, then you would not be satisfied, after all we are human, and humans always want more. Its part of our nature. And then you would complain and ask for ONE more specific thing. ANd others would complain as to why that weapon, and why that type of damage, and on and on and on . . .
I'm sure the respective correspondents can help you isolate which singular item their profession would like to know about most.
OK, what do you want to know, ask ONE SPECIFIC QUESTION. BUT it had better be specific in its entirety, and not have once single spec of generalization.
You'd be giving away, what, about 33 solid facts about the upgrade? With as big as this thing is supposed to be, that's not too much to ask.
Ok, its not massive. It is big, but not massive.
It would go a long way towards calming down the players andrestoring some faith.
Why do you need calming down? This is a game, man. Take a few days off from the game. If you just HAVE to know when the CU sandbox goes live, send me a PM with your email, and I'll email you when it happens. That way you can stop worrying, and start living your life. Don't take this stuff so seriously, its not healthy. But seriously, I'll email you if you want, just relax. We want you here for the long run, having fun. We don't want you to get a heart attack. Besides SOE needs your $15 a month. ![]()
Just a thought.
Cool, I'm glad your posting. Keep it up, even if they are complaints. I hope my comments help. They might give us some info, but I think your asking too much. I do hope you get into beta. That way you can learn about everything, and then come back here to the forums and tell us EVERYTHING.
Best of luck with that anxiety, bro. (just kidding)

Man, Garvin has given out SO MANY hints, its not funny. Forget the flashlight, there's a bonfire going on. Keep asking question though, and read between the lines when you get a response (hint, hint).

You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you get what you need.
Atleast that's what I've heard.

If you don't care or want to know anything from the devs, that's fine. That's your call. But I think the rest of us want to know something directly from the devs themselves. To some extent, it is a need.
Aside from Tiggs and her "getting to know your profession" threads, when was the last time you saw any red name visit this forum or any other?
When was the last time they came directly to us and addressed us as a community?
Off the top of my head, the only one I can remember is the BH forums when they eliminated Master Scout as a pre-req.

Hey man, I think your taking this the wrong way is all.
Note sure how long you've been playing, butmostof us have been waiting for this to happen for a long time now. And what I'm trying to do is help. First of all want's usually do not justify anything. Second of all, re-read my post, there is some very valuable info in there that you seem to have missed.
We need to look at reality for a bit. Yeah, I know, reality sucks. But unless you understand it, things cannot be changed or made better.
I theory, what you want is to get the info on ONE weapon. I can tell you if you were given this info, you still would not be happy. How do I know, well because I recently posted this info (NO NOT 100% to your liking, but then again, I don't have to please you).
You want the devs to post here, well welcome to the club. Garvin wants them to post too, but it ain't gonna happen. If you cn accept this, then maybe we can start to make a bit of progress.
If you care or want to know anything from a development standpoint then read between the lines. I also offord you a way of learning almost anything you wanted to know, but . . . well I'll leave it at that.
I actually do not have much interest in seeing a Dev come post in here. I don't want them to waste their time, I want them to get that sanbox and beta going ASAP. I actually want something PRACTICAL to be done.
Anyway, I respect you, you are a commando. I will offer to help. Be a man, and accept the offer. Now what do you want to know (I can't make it anymoreobvious than that.)
I don't think either one of us is understanding the other, then.
I want them to show the communities enough respect to come to those that will be affected, and address them directly about one thing that their profession is getting.
I didn't say I want them to come and give me info on a new weapon. I used that as an example.
It will not kill them to come speak to the communities affected, one by one.
And yes, some people still won't be happy. You can't please everyone. But, I think that if they'd follow my suggestion, it would make a large portion of the people happy.
The communities, all of them, can take the information they've each been given and compile it, and it will give those of us that don't know specific details of the upgradea much sharper picture of the upgrade and what it will do for us all.
You think it'll be a waste of the devs time to do that, and I disagree. I think it would be time well-spent, because it would be giving the players what they want most right now: information. We deserve it. We've been patient for over a year, and with no ETA on the upgrade aside from "shorter than a year, longer than a mini-publish", we need something to justify being patient.
364 days is less than a year and longer than a mini-publish.
We've wait for a year for this, constantly being told "wait for the revamp". We've waited, and we're still waiting. I want the player community as a whole to be given something to justify the waiting we've done and the waiting we're still doing.
Maybe you've milked some information out of garvin that we don't know, things that we aren't supposed to know just yet. Good for you, you know something the rest of us don't. I won't ask you or Garvin to spill any details and break the NDA. We all deserve to hear something straight from the devs for a change, something custom-tailored for each affected profession. How difficult would if be for them to send TH or Tiggs to each forum to give out this information while the devs themselves worked on the sandbox? Somehow, I'm not conviced that would be too terribly hard at all.
I don't think I can maky myself any more clearer. I'm not just trying to get information for myself, but for everyone...everyone in this community, and everyone in all other professions that will be affected.
Giving the communities a little information on something that coulddrastically changeeverything about theirprofessionis not a waste of time, and if you are still convinced that it is, then I'm fairly certain that you and I will never see eye to eye.
