In that letter he states (in regards to various SOE Teams):
Combat Upgrade - This team is working on upgrading our entire combat system to enhance the experience of combat within Star Wars Galaxies. Their mission is to make combat more fun, interactive, and Star War-sy. We have been taking extensive design feedback from the correspondents and alpha testers and are driving towards an alpha test which will open in a few weeks. Over the next six weeks we will be releasing more information to all players on the exciting things the Combat Upgrade will bring to SWG.
Justed wanted to make sure everyone saw the update...

Thank SOETryrant for keeping us up to date. I am sure they are working hard to get it right and i LOVE the fact that they are taking your suggestions.
I know you told us all this before Garvin, but it is nice to hear it from the horse's mouth so to speak.

The thing I wonder when I read this is, what is their definition of "few"?
I've seen people define few minutes as about 3 hours. How do we know a few weeks won't be 6 months?
Garvin, is there anyway that they can give a slightly more specific time frame, such as saying "within the next 4 to 8 weeks" maybe?

Its good that Tyrant posted a timeframe for the CU...The 6 weeks thing is the magic number, I think. To me, it reads in approx 2-3 weeks we will have alpha testing up and running, and approx 3-4 weeks after that, CU will be expanded. I could be wrong.
Its nice to see an acknowledgement thou.

Unfortunately that's the only time frame I've heard...I'm hoping to hear something more concrete soon, but when it comes to timelines, even the Correspondents are left out of that loop..

ya know, it kinda makes sense, from what i heard...from people was that...
1) if SoE didnt hire 3x the staff (or some number) that they would pull SWG from SoE and give it to Obsidian instead...
2) The next Expansion will be including Capital ships...

uh... don't get your hopes up that the alpha will only be 2-3 weeks and then open beta for 3-4 weeks. Until it opens we will have no idea how much needs fixing/revamping/recoding etc so your 2-3 weeks could be 2-3 months (of course that would be worst case but possible)

Hmm...
Well isn't that grand.
I thought the CU might come before June, but I don't think that's the case. Bet it's coming June to match up with Episode III be realeased. I'm glad for the new changes, but this kind of ticks me off. I really think it is wrong for them to keep pushing this back. This is taking way too long. Looks like were not getting anything fixed with us for a long long time. I honestly feel we are being used. This GCW thing is very nice, but t seems more like glitter to cover up all the dirt.
This GCW update does not fix he fact that we still suck in PvP nor help others in our position. I almost feel I'm being excluded from parts of the game because I'm a Commando. PvE is fun, but I'm tired of being stuck as or thought of as PvE profession. So much for CU being number one priority.
Why are they adding more to a borked system? Seems like an excuse for my time, so things can be balanced. Sorry but this is a really harsh blow. I can only hope that all this time will result in a near perfect system by Alpha and then it will just be a quick process of eliminating bugs.
The sad thing is unless testing goes by really fast this will probably go very close to TH's prediction of a year.
That's pretty lame in my opinion just for the fact of fixing combat and adding a few things.
I probably would have quite if not for the GCW thing which is keeping me for now. Why do they keep adding things while we wait for the CU, instead of fully concentrating on the CU!

True but with the addition of PvE bases, we can raid em and actually have large-scale PvE fun...and help affect the GCW. That is...if the GCW works for this (atm nothing counts towards winning or loosing as the thing is broken!)

Btw...for the borked system...the GCW really just needs expansion and a fix (ie Bases actually contributing to zones of control, Better system involving bases...which they proposed)
GCW is directly related to the CURB, but will be indirectly affected by the CURB. Even if they change stuff for the GCW, it won't mess up the CURB or have to be fixed later in the GCW Revamp (instead, we're getting bits of it NOW rather than waiting 3 months). Granted, after this PvP itself wills till be borked (hence directly related, and indirectly affected...PvP is a part of the GCW, but the GCW is also a part and can function with or without the CURB to any degree)...but the groundwork for a much better GCW will be somewhat viable AND working.
The NPCs of course will be balanced out with the CURB...but ALL NPCs will be...the bases themselves won't need to be, and so far what the devs have proposed is a good idea that will make GCW more open to the combat classes. (for now, those that aren't stackers...and later on...for those that dont want to PvP).

theres alot more to be taken from tyrants letter than just the CURB stuff....
look at the team designations- think about what kind of stuff each group is focusing on.
this stuff is going to go faster and faster..
