OK all - as Im a bit bored....I'd like to try and introduce the concept of an 'optimism index rating' (OIR) - think of it as a sort of measure about how hopeful we all are that Commando will turn out the way we wany in the nearish (sorry - dont ask me to be any more precise) future...its based on a percent socre out of 100 -
0 - absolute despondency - Im giving up - where's the noose
100 - We expect the changes to occur in the next patch...
To start, It may be helpful for our new correspondent to try and encapsulate his OIR pre taking up his curent post, and his OIR now....that way, we might get a feel for the general tone of the debate on the corresp forums without getting him into trouble by asking for specifics.... (I hope this makes sense)...
for example, my OIR was around 40% - pretty stable state, not really expecting to get much changed, but hapy to live with it for a while - its now up to around 65% - hoping for changes to the HAR and Ive read Garvin's posts about what was being thought about for the combat rebalance...
OK - so, how goes it Garvin (or anyone else) - might be helpful for us all to post our 'OIRs' with a brief thought about why.....
If anyone posts an OIR of 95%, I hope he/she has a red name!!!

Hmmm....good question...
Well 2 months back I'd say I dropped to an all time low of 10% (back when I even stopped my ranting and thought about giving up Commando...but that lasted about a day)...
After the last patch I tried to take things in stride and raised my Level to about 50%...then I saw JustG's "State of the Game" and I dropped back down to close to 20%...Delayed Combat Balance...No Mention of us for the next 5 months at least...oy vey!!!
But since becoming the Correspondent a few weeks back I've been able to gain a bit more insight into things...I'm actually approaching 70%...why the big change?
- I've come to terms that nothing is going to happen overnight...
- The Devs came to me rather then me going to them to stress the importance of our Top5....they specifically said that with the delay of the Combat Balance, they want to come up with ideas on what they can do for us in the mean time...they showed interest...
- I've been able to get to know many of the other Combat Profession Correspondents...They all seem to have similiar issues and many of us are together on our goals...Commandos especially have a kinship I feel with Bounty Hunters and support each other's goals for improvement...
- The Devs actually fixed our Consumable Weapons working in doors...this was not specifically asked of them...they saw us talking about it, and made it happen (proof of actual lurking).
Now whether that 70% raises or lowers is dependent on our Top5 and our 10 Questions...I don't expect either to be addressed immediately, but I hope to have some confirmations of our issues by early May at the latest....I've even gone as far as to tell the Devs that if they addressed just one of our 10 Questions a week we'd probably be happier...it's better then nothing or even worse...it's better then waiting for something that will never come...
Why isn't my OIR higher? Because I've been a Commando too long...I've seen promises come and go...I've seen us built up and then torn down...Just like all other Commandos, I've been burned...To get me above 70%, the Devs have to continue to listen, respond and act.
If you read my past posts (pre-correspondent) you'll see I am passionate about our profession and I often don't see eye to eye with the Devs...I think my first post over in the Correspondent Forum was something like "TH, do you know what you've gotten yourself into my letting me in here?"
The Good news is that TH does respond a lot in the Correspondent Forums...so do other Devs...And when they don't respond to one of our issues, I keep bringing it up until they do (and I will continue this)...
LordS will probably be back as the Commando Correspondent soon...He has confirmed with me that he is feeling better...I've told him and the Devs that I want at least one major change to our profession before I leave...I want one thing I can point to that I can say "On behalf of my community I got that done"...My time is limited and each day I will continue to fight harder then the last...rest assured of that...
So I'm curious...what are other's OIR? I can totally understand if it's low for most folks...it's hard to be optimistic when you feel kept in the dark....

I hit zero last week. I'm most of the way through rifleman now and starting to work towards CM.
I was one of the first commandos on Ahazi. Mastered it, held it for months, and then gaveit up for a while to holo-grind a little. I went back to commando pretty quick. I don't bounce around to the flavor-of-the-month, but I've had enough of what SOE has done to commando (or not done really). It was hard to leave it, but the game has been more enjoyable since I did.

An abismal 5%. I just mastered TKA the other day and let me say, omg they rock. If commandos could do half of the things a master TKA could do I would be happy, yet alone if they made us better than that cause we spend more skill points. Im still a Master Commando and will never drop it. Its just dishearting to see other classes woop so much behind. I can kill mokk shamans for 26k and make like 400k in an hour and a half. Mokks woop on me as master commando, but as a TKA i laugh in there face.
I was around 70% prior to JustG post, then i dropped to 10%. When garvin became our correspondent, I was at 50%, but with the knowledge of how good some classes are, I dropped back down. Nothing against you Garvin, but dont it bother you that some classes are so good. Which means the devs can make classes strong, but why have we gotten the brush off?

My rating - Some dayts its 0%, threatening to drop it , and somedays its at 80%. But most of the times its at 30%. Mainly because there hasnt been anything lately , at all, worth anyones times to be quite honest.
But I will end on this note.
If commando receives no "legit" updates ( I.E. something that is in our top 5 ) then there will be no renewal at the end of my subscription.

Pretty low for me as well... within the lower half of 10%... I've been one of the stubborn master commandos for oh so long... but I just made a HUGE mistake... I began to try to dabble in other profs for defenses.
Why is that bad? I'll tell you why... the profession I went to: Rifleman and TKA
TKA = wow, simply, wow... I mean dang wow
Rifleman = dang... maybe I should just keep my commando title, master this, and use a disruptor rifle... Heaven knows I'd feel more like a commando.
And for a moment, after gathering all this assorted xp and stuff, I almost considered hologrinding for a while there. I swear, every morning, It's a real stretch to not drop commando from master to none and just finish off rifleman and TKA. I don't know... part of that stubborn master commando still lurks from within, giving me (false?) hope that we WILL one day be viable in PvP, and as a profession in general, and actually have it be worth spending these points.
I mean... the accuracy of our prof really has me down... I PvP'ed a bit the other day (interesting side note... I'm better at 0 4 0 4 rifles with my T21 than I am at master commando with my flamer in PvP... anyway...) and I missed 3/6 shots with my flamer. I mean... dang... Come on. Fortunately, they weren't buffed, or armored duels, so IF I hit, I usually won. In REAL PvP(buffs, 80-90% armor, etc.) I feel incredibly insignificant... except to help with base shutdown. I mean... hitting means absolutely nothing, there's near no damage, and fortunately, THAT doesn't even happen often.
I WANT commando to be good, I WANT to keep it - and I probably will, regardless. I just get near depressed when I try to PvP, in spite of the great fun I get out of the profession. It'd DEFINATELY be more fun to actually be good, rather than just flashy, and booming.
Heh... I'm a bit long-winded this evening, sorry for highjacking the thread with my outlooks... I need to go to bed or something.

i just dont realy see anything hapining

it seems to me the dev.,s the csr,s lukeous art's and tho hole game disiner ppl have no control over it at all every thing just flots around and nothing can be done unless hacked into coding and altering it (wich would get you kiced as i understand)
so we got this big game camunity out there with trilons of bugs explotsthat a bunch of 10-22 yerold ppl can grife haras other players cheat to become uber lie still kill and destroy
and they have no control over it and even if they could they wouldnt becous there to lazzy

After a rollercoaster ride it's at about 60% at the moment.
Publish 7 saw it drop from a pretty good 70% (I have TKA 0404 for defenses and could hold my own against most anything) to something near 10%, it got so bad that I posted on my guild forum saying I was quitting if we got no love in publish 8 and changed my subscription from 3 months down to 1 month soI could cancel on a moments notice.
It actually dropped to 0% when Lord S was taken ill (nice to see you back btw) and I thought we were royally screwed without a voice and the devs ignoring us.
Garvins appointment to the job of Correspondent gave me huge hope we may get some attention finally, I mean here's a guy who's passion for this profession is evident, and even if the devs didn't agree with his perceptions of what needed doing to fix my beloved commando profession, I just knew his bull headed determination and refusal to back down would get things changed.
Last section of the rollercoaster was when they finally got around to fixing our disposable heavy weapons working indoors, something we've been asking to have fixed for an age, and when it was finally done it gave me enough faith in the devs to ramp my OIR up to 60%.
Now then, give me a working HAR, some actual defenses, LP specials, working skill tapes and some unarmed commando moves that make use of my brawler skill line and you'll have one happy commando on your hands

Mine started out fairly high, about 90% I think, and dropped down shortly after the first big fix for us, and has been going back up since then.
I'd say right now I'm at a steady 85% mostly because I realized, and have come to accept the fact that we will not be fixed immediately, and that what I do have with commando is a good complement to my other skills. I personally love using HPBCs and Grenades (and yes, I CAN hit things with them, got a +25 accuracy tape
) and then when they get close I light them on fire and then pound em with a power hammer
There's lots of times when I prefer my commando over swordsman, and other times when it's the opposite. It's the melding of professions I think that has kept me from getting upset about commando.

My OIR was 85% before I had seen JustG's "State of the Game", ever since it has been around 20%... it's a constant struggle for me not to drop commando... I am an RPer and the main reason I keep it is because it fits my character background. Honestly don't know anymore
... I would say it got raised to 30-35% after reading that Garvins has reached 70%. *sigh*

I do want to say that my 0% doesn't reflect on LordS or Garving. You two are pushing a car up a steep hill...but once it gets to the top it'll roll down the other side and you'll have to start over....

My optimism rating is 0 ... i am doing novice rifleman to work up on that because i actually want to be a commando even if i dont have the title. i am also doing tk which made me go ... huh ... so combat can be cool.
