Thread: Petition: Nix the 2.5x melee dmg for special heavy weapons NOW!

Okay, many of you may know me... Or not. The name's Ha-Jin Zenari and I play on Gorath....

I am a commando. I, too, am a rifleman. I am beingscrewed twice here, and there's really no good reason why it needs to beby same thing... Forgive my language, but this is how I feel. I chose the commando class hoping to get away from dying every few minutes for no good reason because of melee damage being multiplied against me when equipped with a rifle. I was hoping to augment my usual repertoire with commando weapons, and now I am being served a double dose of nonsensical game mechanics...

First of all, what is the sound reasoning behind this? For the rifleman? For the commando?? For any class at all??? There isn't one. There is nothing to simulate it accurately or even remotely accurate in real life--and we all know we use real life as a basis for most video games... And theidiotic notion that we use games to escape reality doesn't work here--that somehow the rules of the real world don't apply in the game world--because the truth is that we use the real world as a template and we deviate from it from time to time--but not too drastically. In other words, ruiles are bent and not broken: This is clearly an example of a broken rule. Once again, I call upon the Devs for a challenge...

In the first experiment, a Dev will hold a pistol. I will then proceed to punch him in the face ten times, being sure to calculate damage caused to his face on each hit and in total. That same Dev will then equip a rifle: I will then punch him in the face another ten times and dmg will be recorded. The data of the two sets will be compared. My hypothesis is that the Dev theory is incorrect and that, in fact, damage should remain approximatelythe same for both sets. We may have to try this on several different Devs or whatever to ensure that we aren't adding in any unknown variables...

In the second experiment, the Dev will hold a flame thrower instead of a rifle. Again, dmg will be given and recorded and compared accordingly. Again, my hypothesis is that dmg will be roughly the same as when holding a rifle or a pistol...

In any case, I'm sure you can all see how idiotic and totally unrealistic this thing is... It grates against common sense. Game balance, they want? I'm sure there are other, better ways of achieving this! A dmg multiplier against melee attacks is not the answer. And so all I am asking is that other commandos (or non-commandos that feel our pain) sign this petition to nix the 2.5x melee dmg multiplier immediately. We are only going to suffer long if this isn't gotten rid of now.

Signed,

Master Sgt. Ha-Jin Zenari

For the record, I never noticed the 2.5x damage on the FT tonight, er, last night. Perhaps it is because my main weapon is the launcher pistol. The FT is there for a shot or 2, then the LP is back in my hand. I do agree it sucks. I also agree it sucks for riflemen as well.

It's there all right, Trystan. I discovered that when an imperial medic NPC one shotted me for 4000 damage.

dont u guys see? the devs are trying to say that they are worknig on acid rifle etc. making the change to flamethrower is change 1 so everyone wont go using one. I mean in real life a guy with a flamethrower is dangerous to himself as well as others. sincethe made commandos take melee damage badly they might be saying that is step one to working on acid rifles and stuff. They want people to use different array of commando weapons whenever they fix acid rifle and rocketlauncher or watever sux for the commando

Raviek, all heavy weapons including the bounty hunter LLC currently have this penalty. In other words, using the acid rifle instead of the FT incurs exactly the same problem.... plus the bugged accuracy, bugged speed and inexplicable lack of AP on the HAR.

The damage penalty doesn't make a lick of sense. Take a Commando, a warrior schooled in all forms of combat, and make him a wimp with a rifle. Ha! Really, a Commando is certified with a basic pike weapon to begin with (a staff), one he has to hold with both hands....wouldn't he know how to defend himself when attacked by a melee assault while holding a rifle-like weapon? Isn't thatone of theideas behind the Field Tactics tree, by the way? Versatility in any combat situation?

IMO, nerfs are generally a response to customer service being flooded by the complaints of jealous whiners who were stomped by hybrid professionals like Bounty Hunters and Commandos. Yes, I am using a flamethrower in this post. If you're a rifleman, stay at a distance. If you're a pistoleer, stay buffed and at a distance. If you're a carbineer - and I think carbineers rock btw - stay buffed and at a distance. If you're a Dancer or Artisan with minimal combat skills (not to offend the very cool dancer/commandos I have seen hehe)- andwho likes to be overt (regardless of faction) and parade your faction pets around -stay far, far away from combat in general. It's not your place.

I'll sign, but the devs have said that they don't listen to petition threads. If this was an intended nerf, then the only thing that will change there mind is as many well thought out posts on the SWG discussion forum on why this is unfair as possible (we all know they don't read the profession forums).

Also our correspondant will have to get after them with some pretty good arguements as well.
