Thread: Only -Master Commandos- should do the damage we're doing now. A balancing act.
As a commando since day one I've been through the burden of the progression of this class. I'm content with where we're at now, bearing the resolution of our current bugs. My issue is not with the damage we're doing - it's when we're doing it. If we're going to justify commandos doing this much damage, even taking into consideration our accuracy, then we should only grant this damage to high level commandos. What I'd like to see is master commandos and commandos who have gained the 4th boxof their weapon specialization doing this damage - what I don't want to see is one box commandos able to dish out thousands of points of damage with little regard to the rest of the class. This will separate the people wanting a quick fix, and those in it for the entire class.
I don't believe this is an issue of elitism as I have been accused of (wanting to keep the commando class free of the band wagon jumpers,) but is an issue of balance. I'm one of the first to debunk people's misconceptions that we'regods in this game. I know ourvulnerabilities and strengths. I also know that there's little incentive to truly master this classwhen one can just as easily dabble in it. Regardless of where commandos are taken, I'm in this for the long haul - I'd like to see master commandos be a force to be reckoned with, known for their massive damage and power. As it stands now, one has just as much to fear from a novice commando.
Daemon, I like your suggestion, very much so. That would be easier to balance than giving new weapon certs as to control the damage. The issue at hand is that our damage for obtaining nothing more than flame 1 is devistating. Sure, there were times when I missed up to 9 times in a row, and frequently missed on specials. But it was not enough to stop me from taking down reds solo with our DOT, nor was it enough to stop me from one hit killing many, upon many things.
The difference between flame 4 and flame 1 isn't that massive. Sure, I don't get 9 misses in a row anymore, but it's easy to see how people will simply dabble in this class given the effectiveness of flame 1 as a novice commando. Master commando should be the threat to worry about, not every novice commando flooding into the class. If you truly want that damage as commando, work for it and carry your weight as a commando.
The pre-reqs do not qualify us in heavy weapons training - they give us the ability to begin training in heavy weapons. Our skill use should reflect that. I believe we're on the right path, but we still need a little tweaking.
please lets not start this crap....same thing that bh's did once everyone started making master...the masters start complainin that the newbs are just as tough
let everyone feel the love
congrats to you for getting master though you have my respect
you see 3k damage as a novice
I see 3k damage over 20 seconds as a novice...whats the diffrence?
I did more damage as a rifleman then I do as a commando and from way farther away....it just took we 3 hits in the same 20 seconds to do it. You think fire does too much damage, how many ppl can heal a 1k mind bleed out in the field?
The commando is not over powered there are just way too many newbs in PvP combat that let you walk up to them and burn them. Try fighting some one who knows what they are doing and you'll never get that big 10k hit on them....in fact you'll never get close enough to use any flame specials on them at all.
Don't nurf us because ppl don't know how to fight.....or what will we do when they do figure it out.
If anything give a +10-15 accuracy bonus to master commando in all commando weapons.
Unlike bh's where pistoleers and carbineers can pick up the respective bh line for added accuracy/specials/damage to stack on their own profession ours start at bar none and our weapons lines don't stack with any other profs accuracies.
IMO keep it as is if you want to beef up the master give greater accuracies.
With commando the real damage comes from the hard fact of whether or not you can hit the target.
Here's a test for you to try even if your at flamer4. Get a bh to stand at 50m blind shot you and keep moving staying at 50m distance. Count your hit to miss ratio.
Shut the hell up with this crap!! Nerf the commandos. A flame thrower will burn you plain and simple. Let a five year old point a flame thrower at you see how much damage you get. Stop trying to butter up to SOE or your friends. The point is a pistol can be as strong as liquid acid on your face. Ohh a bullet to your head woop de doo. The commandos are fine now so leave them alone. Novice commando are good because Commando is part of there title live with it. COMMANDO whats that mean to you. What does Novice navy seal mean? I bet he still can woop some ass.
Get off it. If you want to fight good pick good weapons. Plain and simple. Riflemen are for hunting at a distance. pistols are for defending. Flamethrowers are for cooking people. Which one is better? Shut up and stop makeing the game a soap opra. Play and be happy. Let the devs make there game.
I have to stress this point over and over again. The damage is not that great. 16m is practically melee range. In fact, unarmed lunge has a range of 15 meters and after that you can close no prob. A fantastic shot with flameSingle2 will get you 7000 damage over 10 seconds at level 0 AP. As a TKA master I can do 1700 damage per second at AP 1. And guess what, TKA moves get the 2.5 bonus against rifle users too. So you know that 17,000 damage you'll do once in a blue moon to a rifle user with FS2? Over 10 seconds, spamming UH3 I'll do an average of just over 42000 (yup, fourty two thousand) points of damage to a rifle user. As a TKA, I can also choose a pool to hit, and average 1000 points of pool specific damage per second. This is drastically superior to commando damage over time.
And that's the whole deal. FTs and HARs are for all intents and purposes melee weapons, and as such, the damage they do is not out of line. Especially when you consider that commandos also take extra damage from melee, and get no defenses. The damage is NOT out of line.
People flip out about commando damage because it's front loaded. Taking the time to actually look at the strengths and drawbacks leads to the conclusion that we're already balanced.
