I have a proton rifle that is, unfortunately one of the pre-fix loot drops, that does 1 pt of AoE damage.
Now they are fixing the AoE, what's gonna happen to this item?
Will it revert, as it should, to non AOE, or will it do full AoE at 64 meters?
Or will it just remain busted?
Also, what's the word on the patch? Any clue as to why it was pulled? I've seen no explanation from the devs.

Honestly I'm curious if it will be the ONLY commando weapon without an AoE. It's stated that it has one in the description, but doesn't in effect. Not quite sure if I want it with an AoE or not, but I guess we'll see.

I was under the impression it was a line of sight AoE...meaning it hits everything behind your target too. I seem to aggro other NPCs that way with mine.
But I have been wrong before!

No, as stated as starnick the non AOE commando weapions are, rocket launcher, Heary acid rifle (first level not the steam), and the proton rifle. and for a liltle bit fyi they change the annamation for the proton rifle blots. it looks like it shoot a bunch of litle red plama balls (reminded me of a weapion from metriod)

The heavy acid rifle's not an AoE? Been ages since I used one, but I remember blinding myself if I shot something under like 20m. Maybe a weapon fluke or as intended ... who knows?

I think the Heavy Acid Rifle is the one that blinds you and things near it, and the Acid Stream launcher only blinds enemies. I believe some of the weapons are changing to non-AOE with the pub. 24 patch, and that woudl be the rocket launcher and the HAR, I THINK. Don't quote me on it, not sure.
But as far as proton rifle, yeah, i'm wondering, I got one too and Don't know whats going to change with it.

This will be interesting for those pre-patch ones that started generating a broken AoE...
If it will work, expect it to be 10% AoE damage since it the rifle has a 64 m range (the ASL is 64 m, 10% AoE...the AoE % is determined by the range of a weapon now).
Howeever, the CU-old debate on exactly what weapons will be AoE or not will be settled with the coming of Publish 24. All Heavy weapons will display the AoE % as a new feature in the /examine window for the weapon; the HAR, RL, and Proton Rifle all do not have a % marked...
The same goes for the rest of the looted heavy weapons it seems too.

I know this might not be very helpful, but I was playing alot of commando in the beta... and I swear there was a 'radius' on the Proton Rifle. It might have an AoE, cause I remember aggro'ing tons of extra mobs while using it.
And I'm kicking myself for not taking more pictures of the weapons i used
And once they fix the damage multipliers and warmup/cooldown of you abilities, you guys will freaking rock! (or at least blow stuff up real good!)

If you notice, most weapons AoE or not have the 6 m radius listing. It really is the worst feature in the /examine window to determine whether or not the weapon is AoE...

I think that AoE should increase as the target draws closer? Just a suggestion, but It seems like less 'energy' would be lost the shorter distance a projectile has to travel.

Precisely what the devs implemented
@ 25 meters...65% splash damage (PFT)
@ 36 meters...49% splash damage (Lava Cannon)
@ 64 meters...10% splash damage (ASL)
and so on

Well.. I mean for each individual weapon. Like at close rangefor example, the acid stream launcher will do more AoE at 10 Meters than it will at 64m, Making each weapon viable in each situation. Although I can see advantage to the long-range blinding attack, then switching to flamer Charge shot to KD as they come in, then snare and let the flames roar =P.

Ah cool, was my first time messing with commando weapons and abilities in a loooong while. Still had a blast with the flame thrower and burning many things at once... help out muchly on one of the mustafar missions
I think once you get the damage mods worked out (jack em up a bit please!), you guys will be rocking and rolling (and blowing things up).
