Recently TH came to our forum and made3 reply posts:

For all the rest of the folks who will come by this thread:

  • Yes there will be a fire suppression tool for Fire DoTs. It only makes sense that if you have a weapon, you have a counter measure. Currently, you need water to put out a fire DoT and there are none, which is why many players have asked that there be one.

  • No combat DoTs will stack anymore because some players were using them in PvP exploits and Combat Experience exploits. Players would run up, stack 3 or 4 fire dots on a MOB or another player and run away while the fire burned - - because there is no way to extinguish the fire. Then they would run back and fire a quick shot from a blaster and finish the kill. It was never intended to work that way.

AND

No worries. Its one of those examples of "if something players can do for more combat advantage they will". Its not the players fault - - heck, I was guilty of it too until I find out (Im a commando). Its a great example though. Fighting a Rancor should be a scary and daunting task. With a decent skill level, a sliced FT and a Combat medic, its absolutely no trouble at all - - because its wildly out of balance.

Its also being severely abused in PvP. Its a GCW Top 5 issue and rightly so. When I play on live with my friends, I went commando because of all the damage it does. With that being said, the other heavy weapons do need to be addressed and they are.

This is just one of those quirks that comes up when thousands and thousands of players try to "game the system" for the best combat advantages. Stacking DoTs that way is just way powerful.

One thing to keep in mind, is that all of the balancing that is going on is against the combat numbers for the way things will be not as they are. I mentioned there would be some pain over the distance of the combat balance and this is it.

AND FINALLY

I take all the positive posts very seriously. I even read the negative posts and try to understand what they are telling me (though I wont reply to negative posts). Its not so visible through the great divide, but I keep massive spreadsheets and argue the player position with the devs every day.

The combat balance is near and dear to my heart as are all player issues. I just have to juggle time, manpower and scheduling as well. What I do is I keep track of all the issues, label them and sort them. That way when I go to Blair, JustG and Runesabre and say "players need this fixed", its based on how many players are being effected.

The combat balance alone is the single largest player issue. It encompases about 34% of the Correspondent issues and much of the pain combat players are having. Pikemen, carbineers, commando heavy weapons, the cost of specials, HAM costs, all of that will be better when the combat balance is done.

The thing to remember is that because the combat balance touches so many other systems in the game, its going to take a while. The team thats working on this is working very hard and thats the best I can offer.

It doesnt get in the way of my fun though. Last night JustG and I were on TC. We are both master Commandos and we dueled to test the FT damage numbers and DoTs - - of course he didnt tell me he had a dev invulnerability script on...heh heh...he torched me in a cantina (The DoT's stacked and from a fresh healthy state, I incapped, came out, incapped, came out and incapped and died because the DoTs kept burning - - thats the PvP exploit. 2 or 3 commandos will run up, stack the dots and players and mobs in PvE alike just burn burn burn...its just not fair).

Now some of my observations...

First off he said he would only reply to positive posts...I take it that was a response to my 2 earlier posts...I did say anything bad about him or about LordS...all I stated is that we are owed answers...not excuses...but look what we got...

Once again we got more excuses...but if you read all of the above, again we see no ideas, suggestions, or even requests for ideas on how we are going to be fixed...all we see is TH stating that the reasons we are to be NERF'd...not how we can continue to be a viable profession once our only working weapon is NERF'd...How about telling us if and when our LP will get specials...how about telling us if our Grenades will be fixed...how about telling us when to expect our HAR to be dealt with...how about giving us some light at the end of the tunnel instead of just telling us why you must put our light out...

I believe I understand why it's so easy for the Dev's and TH to feel the way the do...Have they grinded all the way to Commando? or for that matter any profession? or do they just zap themselves to being Masters...If they have grinded then they'd know what we had to do to get where we are...we can't just Zap ourselves to being a master of another Profession...Our blood, sweat and tears got us to where we are...We've made a connection with our profession through our effort...so I'm sorry we get upset when we see our effort going down the drain by "take" and no "give"...

TH, you once said you were a Commando? Did you actually GRIND all the way there? Do you understand what it took us to get here? Do you understand that if you kill this profession we have to start over elsewhere? Can you understand where I pride comes from and why we don't want to see our profession destroyed?

You said you and the other Dev logged in the other night and played as commandos...you experienced the bug other's have...so how about fix the bug instead of nerf the profession...how about making the DoT timer slower so folks can get back up...or some other solution...why not come to us and ask for solutions...we'd be happy to work with you instead of just taking what we get...We know our profession best, so how about letting us use our voices before parenting us...

I'm guessing I won't get an official TH response here because my post won't be deemed "positive"....but that's how much I care about our profession...my words sing of my feelings...you hurt my profession you hurt me...you beat down my fellow commandos, and I want to stand up for them...it may not be my place, but I'll keep doing it anyway...our voices will eventually be heard...

I've already resigned myself to the fact that our profession is going to see some hard times for awhile...eventually we'll be heard and the only thing that will fix it is a total Commando Revamp...I just hope there are still some Master Commandos around by that time...

So I challange you TH or any other Dev visiting here...instead of giving us more excuses...give us hope...tell us what is postively instore for our profession...tell us how you are going to help us....And give us a chance to help you when it comes to the future of our profession...the In Concept post is interesting, but give us a reason to believe it will lead to something positive...

Take a chance and actually listen to us...we are Commandos...we know our profession better then those who face us...

TH said

So...What does this mean? does this mean that no matter what our level, no matter what our skills, no matter how much we worked for that better flamer, no matter how much time we give we are supposed to get no better then we were before? Does this mean that everything should be impossibly hard no matter what skill level? no matter what our weapons are?

Ive asked this before, and i feal hard pressed to ask it again...Whats the point?

Im not one to be rude, or speak bad about people...but sometimes i just cant help it.

Thunderhearts sense of logic seems a bit....skewed.

Uhh a 2handed master can solo rancors too, can we nerf them? I don't think its fair that a carbineer can knock me down an infinate amount of times in a row, can we nerf them? I don't think its fair that BH has a mind damage shot with a pistol, can we nerf them? (I'm not seriously asking this, I enjoy fighting all 3 proffessions because its a C-H-A-L-L-A-N-G-E... something people fail to see when they face a commando).

Something people fail to notice is that it takes a long time to STACK our DOTs. I don't mind loseing the ability to stack them, but I think what they should do is make the fire dot resistable by armor in PvP only. And make dots non-stackable again in PvP only. The only thing commandos are really good at is PvE (don't gimme the bs about our high damage, its a load of crap, I die more often then I kill, and I use every **edit** trick in the book).

Commandos want the DEVs to fix our other weapons before they even think about nerfing the flamethrower. Is that too much to ask here? Honestly. None of them are usefull, not one of them. We've made repeated suggestions about what you guys can do with them. Theres all sorts of possibilities. And makeing them as powerful and usefull as the flamethrower DOESN'T overpower the proffession because we can't use more then 1 at once.

Hell my master tka friend who had half of his ham in wounds badly MAULED one of the higher level rancors..died tho..but he was at a severe disadvantage

Commandos...We die at long range, we die at short range..there is no middle range because we easily die from carbineers as well!

But nevertheless, Im sticking with my commando on chilastra (atm ive been playing more on valcyn with my master architect..primarily cuz my best friend [who im going to marry in a week or two!!!] has joined me there..and frankly we both feel chilastra has come down a bit since launch...not to mention we're alot happier on valcyn

However, this does not mean ill give up commando..delete my character...or wont play him

Hell will have to freeze over, heaven come crashing down and god being killed Before I give up my bloody master title in commando!!!! Or if the devs take it out of the game..neither have a chance of happening. I worked too hard, used soo much of my patience (2-3rd week after launch..nearly 7 months ago i achieved novice commando) to give up now!

Long Live the Commandos!!

What is so wrong about having a terrrain feature be the counter-measure? It mixes things up a bit, makes players choose geographically tactical locations for bases, battles, etc. Does a counter-measure always have to be some magic hippack thing that is so convenient and easy to use? And can we not just add more lakes/rivers/oasises? Of course not, we need to gimp.

Then they would run back and fire a quick shot from a blaster and finish the kill. It was never intended to work that way.

Then why was it designed that way? Suddenly DOT stacking is an "exploit"?? And with the new system, whats to stop someone from running up to a MOB, applying a healthshot2, flameshot2, and then running away? Its just going to take longer, but same effect. Will that be an "exploit" too? Is bleeding or poisoning and then running away an exploit? Well then remove all DOTs and get it over with it. I'm getting reallyfrustratedwith allthis "exploit" talk and accusations.

AND

Fighting a Rancor should be a scary and daunting task. With a decent skill level, a sliced FT and a Combat medic, its absolutely no trouble at all - - because its wildly out of balance.

So with a good weapon, (and likely good armor),and grouped with a CM or Doctor, we shouldn't be able to kill a Rancor? Well then, up the stats on the RANCOR, don't lower ours! And there are PLENTY of other professions/templates that can solo a Rancor under these circumstances. They don't need no freakin flame DOT to do it!

AND FINALLY

he torched me in a cantina (The DoT's stacked and from a fresh healthy state, I incapped, came out, incapped, came out and incapped and died because the DoTs kept burning - - thats the PvP exploit. 2 or 3 commandos will run up, stack the dots and players and mobs in PvE alike just burn burn burn...its just not fair).

Ok, replace flame DOT with poison DOT in the above paragraph. Only there needs to be only one application of it, pfft to any stacking needed. And "from a fresh healthy state", it will kill you too.

Or replace it with continous KD/Dizzy. Or replace it with one guy spamming Chargeshot while the other one kills you. Flame DOTs are the least of the problems. And is anyone PvPing without buffs?? No one I know.

And I love the implication here that there are roving packs of Commandos out there running up to people and stacking flame DOTs on them. A group that consists only ofCommandos in PvPwill not last long enough to be very effective.

I'll always be with Commando. I don't expect that TH or the DEVs will fix us anytime soon, but I still retain some hope that we will eventually be fixed. Like Garvin's post states, TH never gives us answers, just excuses. I've come to expect that from him... Funny how he doesn't reply to these post, but instead sticks his answers in a post asking about template advice. Does he really consider these posts 'negative'?

um, have you checked out the "untouchable template of the week"? seriously. pistoleer+tka+fencer = no one can hit them. stacking defense mods is WORSE than us stacking dots, because we cant stack dots in pvp. we die after the first shot. have you used your commando in REAL pvp? gone on any raids lately? huh? of course not, you just turn on you "dev invincibility script" and blast away. you have no idea what it means to be commando. when i first got novice (not to long ago), i honestly thought that you were here to represent us. i thought, in some obviously delusioned part of my mind, that you had been through what we had, expericanced our woes and saw how feeble we truly are. but now, im certain that just the opposite is true.

I, and many others here, have spent many hours in the wilderness, grinding out heavy weapon xp, in some small hope of mastering a profession that will someday be what it was ment to be. many are masters, and many are turning from that to take up these untouchable templates.

TH, i would rather you not post here at all than post this garbage. you have no idea what this profession means to us. its not just "I went commando because of all the damage...blah blah blah". the Master Commando title is one that should COMMAND respect. as it stands, other professions just laugh as they kd/dizzy and beat the hell out of us.

congratulations TH, you have just lost every ounce of respect i though i had for you. get your Dev High Horse and play like one of us, and you might comprehend.

Deus, i once again agree with you....I have worked so hard for Commando...a profession that probably needs more work than any other profession...Therefore, we should have the right to be a stronger class.

At least give us some sort of sign TH...some post that POSSIBLY hints you understand what we're saying.

An interesting statement. WHile i have seen dabblers, masters, and people trying to level up to master I dont think ive ever seen packs of roming commandos running around stacking DOTs on everyone. And ive been playing since september 2003. Another overexagerated assumption methinks.

There are plenty of other professions that need as much or more work then ours...

BUT...how many have just one working weapon and line of specials that are on the chopping block due to recent announced NERFs...

I'd rather be broken and forgotten than broken and broken some more with the next patch...

Okay guys, time to give my responses, and defense of some of the thing... they just might be misunderstood.

Now for one thing; as long as I've know TH, he has ground his way through the professions he plays, granted he is supposed to play as his job, but e has done it. Also, the reason we have information on why the extinguishers will be put in, and not how our profession is being fixed; well that's because the fixes are still up in the air a little bit. But the reason to add the extinguisher is not.

I do understand the frustration; but I have been hit by the fire DoT a ton recently, and I see where this is coming from. I can fix a bleed, I can get poison and disease fixed *though the wounds and damage need an overhaul... and I DO believe that is coming, he just brought up Commando stuff here.*, but burns are not easy to fix depending on where you are. *Especially since I am based on Tatooine*

Now I feel if the wounds from our DoT were reduced or non-existent in PvP, and our DoT did not incap, then there would be less of a problem. I am actually going to start a post on this; and if we can keep it to the topic, and keep the ideas flowing there *no negatives guys* then maybe we'll get a response on the idea.

There is a huge amount of balance going on behind the scenes; and they don't want to give any hard information, because if that changes before the publish, it can cause just as much screaming. You have to understand where the Developers are coming from with what we give them.

Basically, gthey want to encourage up-beat and good posting, posts that MIGHT lead to flaming and yelling in a thread don't get attention for good reason. Also they have limited resources to work with, so any ideas we propose might take months to be fixed, there is a lot out there that has to be checked over and over before any fixes. Then once they decide on an overall fix, they can't give exact details, becuase if it changes or is delayed, then they're called on it and yelled at. So that is where they have to come from.

*Just trying to bring understanding between the two groups. But the good news is that TH is a Commando, so he knows our pain; and I am sure with my Top 5 being checked, fixes are in there. It's just what get's fixed when, we'll have to wait on*
