Thread: My Speculation on that Divorce rumor...
I know that this is forbidden from the higher-ups, but we like to let our minds run wild here. I have heard it from the grapevine and have discussed this with a good friend of mine who has also heard the same. Apparently Lucasarts is displeased with the way that SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) has handled Star Wars' MMORPG Galaxies. Now the day after the JTL expansion goes live, they plan to announce the second expansion pack and the divorce between SOE and Lucasarts. They will then give update us on the changes that will be made when Lucasarts takes the controls.
Speculation has gone on that they are looking towards a SWG with no players being Jedi. It is said that Lucas is displeased with the game but excited about it's potential. As a Star Wars fan and a gamer, I think (if this is true) that this will be a turn for the better. Whatever Lucasarts does with it flying solo, it is sure to do Star Wars justice. Stay tuned and we will keep you informed. "
Already, Ive seen some posts speculating on this and some thoughts ideas, plus of course I can't say if its true or not....but I got a hunch. In this blurb above (the original article from MMGN.com), it say especially where it mentions lucasarts taking the controls...if thats true, I think SWG may become the greatest MMORPG ever by staying true to star wars. SOE dug itself a grave with the jedi, theres no real way to get out of it now otherwise they'd rob thousands of people their time and effort they put into acquiring it, this I wont comment on however.
But the rumor mill concerning SOE and Lucasarts Divorcing, I cant really fathom. After all this, on the day of the release of JTL...Lucasarts will be taking over SWG totally and doing it solo? It doesnt seem logical, lucasarts would have to acquire the servers, bring them up, get datacenters, and hire an entire new developer staff. Instead, from the sounds of it...if this is true of course...lucasarts will be taking a more direct handling in SWG's issues, maybe putting funding in for more developers or hardware perhaps. After all, lucasarts technically produced SWG with SOE developing it - and remember when it was advertised that experienced MMORPG makers were on the game? Yet after launch, Q or Holo said how the team were learning to deal with issues that arised community wise and other misc along those lines?
Lets face it, SOE has fumbled with SWG on some key issues. We all know that SOE needs lucasart's permission to do some things, but I think lucasarts (if this rumor is true) won't fully break with SOE...but have more of an active role rather than passive role (as far as we know that is). If this is the case....the SWG ride is going to become much more exilerating....who knows? Maybe we'll actually see Vader out and about in events...

Just a rumor...nothing more...Everyone I've talked to at SOE thinks the rumor is funny and totally false...
The funniest part is that the position that is being hired for is currently an EXISTING position with lucasarts...They are just re-filling the position which makes me think the old person in that position (someone I met at the Summit) has either moved up or moved on....
I've heard these rumor often get started when an MMO company hires for a high up position...
For all we know it could be true, but I highly highly doubt it and it's not really worth the time to speculate on when everyone is saying it's false...I bet the Devs are enjoying all the speculation because it's keeping some focus off of other areas...
At least this rumor will be put to rest after JTL releases (since the rumor says the big shake-up is suppose to be announced after the release)...

Didn't we hear the same thing from the higher ups at ENRON? Didn't they to say similar things? Time will tell.
However, there still is nothing listed on the main page under "In Concept" or "In Development". Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm!?!?!?

It doesn't bother me. I have yet to be impressed with anything they do besides actually make the game.
Still I don't see anything like this changing. If it does I'll just be plain surprised.
Who knows it could even be an evil plot by SOE to keep us occupied.

I'm of the opinion we should flood LucasArts mailbox with e-mail demanding one of our own get the Sr. Director position (namely me!).
Just think of how quickly we could get issues fixed if the position was filled by someone that actually plays the game, understands the concerns of 90% of the community, and cares about what Star Wars is supposed to be!
