Well guys, last time I called, it was a trial. All of the support and blessings you gave me worked! I'm still with you all.

Thank you. When it rains it seems to pour. So who better to turn to then my Marine Brothers and my Commando Brothers!??

It's 10:26pm here in Minnesota. In six years of Marine training, ANGLICO, 8TH Engineers, bootcamp, and everything else...I always somehow made it out of "Cold Weather Survival Training". I think it was a subconciouse thing, but I never had to. I HATE the cold! Braven would never go to HOTH unless he had to....

In six short hours, I have to prepair for negative thirty plus degree windchill weather. Then I have to endure it for at least eight hours. I don't have the proper gear. Being from Chicago, I figured I could handle the cold. I figured if anyone could endure it, I could as well. But I've been having a hard time lately, and now the guys who ARE supposed to be used to it, are looking a bit intimidated. IF THEY are...what's gonna happen to me?

Armpits, layering, activity....sheesh! I freeze when it's below 32 degrees. I can handle 0 degrees, maybe 10 below...but 30+? NO way! hehehe!

I'm gonna try! WISH ME LUCK and see what happens! It's a challenge....a challenge to meet.

"...And I thought they smelt bad on the outside, but it'll keep ya warm...". Sorry about the OT guys!

Slainte to sand and bikinies!

just have fun with it.

once we were doing training ops on mount fuji at about -15. the hard part there was the command thought it would make us tougher if we DIDNT use our cold weather gear. it was so cold my packframe shattered and gave me a big cut on my back durring a hump. we lost an entire company to hypothermia, and several in my own platoon.

if you have a jacket and gloves, it should be a peice of cake.

ps. one of my old buddies did that package youve got, and always said it was alot of fun.

of course, the weather looks like the world is currently ending.

Are you trying to tell me that the cold shoulder the Devs have been giving us all these months hasn't prepared you enought? Figured you'd be use to the cold by now...

Seriously though...take care and stay safe...let me know if you need anything...and give us an update when you get back...

BRRRR! Reminds me of my house on Monday of this week...arctic wind, near zero, and no heat in the house for 2 days!

Gotta love the cold!

Thanks guys! Not only did I make it, but I also got over a week of vacation! I'll tell ya, there's something about having friends root for you...The strong Spirit of Commando. If I ever own a boat worthy of a name, "The Spirit of Commando" will be it's name.

Some guys bailed out right away, some made it till noon, I stuck it out all day! When I couldn't feel my fingures and toes, I kept saying to myself, "I made that post, no way am I going back there as a quitter! GOD I HATE THE COLD!". Then, they called it and the remaining guys got a pat on the back and sent on our merry way!

Maybe I've been spoiled all my life, but I know now I'm a "Warm Weather Commando!...LOL!

Oh and in responce to Garvins Dev comment...Yeah, just because we've gotten used to the COLD doesn't mean we like it. I'm hoping the devs give us some heat so the rest of the Commando community does not give us the COLD SHOULDER!

Aint gonna happen boys!

Slainte to WARM friends and COLD beer....

P.S. TK-132,

  1. I was talking about the windchill.

  2. Are you over 21?

  3. How far are you from Min/St.Paul?

  4. I NEED MORE TIPS on how to keep warm!

-30'C?

No problem. Just cover up, keep a hat on, gloves or mittens(?)..And keep on moving...But not so much you start sweating. If you start sweating, you're overdressed.

However if you start sweating..Don't stop moving, unless you have a dry shift of clothes that you can change into.

Me? Norwegian army, I spent a week up in the mountains, -30'C average, my squad had no working heater for the tent, so we didnt get warm food, nor warm tent like the other squads..(Company had 4 faulty heaters, and every squad was to have 2 heaters..minimum one working one..But someone was hogging the working ones)

One night in the tent, we clocked it to -33'C...The sarge, XO and one other officer who was bunking with my squad, moved into a snow cave instead of the tent...they found it warmer.

3 of my squaddies, could have gotten a medical discharge after that week, but none opted for it. One nearly had to amputate his toes, another a few fingers, but good work and good doctors and a strong will made em make it thru. Altho, half of my squad ended up with frost burns that will stay with us for life.

Just don't stop moving, cover up and avoid breaking a sweat, and you can endure real heavy cold.

(We didn't even try to calculate how cold it really was out there with the wind..it was -30C without wind.....brrrrrrrr)

Hey I live in Minnesota too.

If I can ride bike in 9 degree weather in the morning you should be able to make it.

But yea it's nasty cold out there with the wind.

Wind is the worst thing and it makes all the difference.

If it's ten degrees and wind blowing that's worse than blow zero weather sometimes.

Where are you going were it's 30 below though?

That reminds me when I had to walk for about 45 minutes in 15 below weather.

All I can say is wear snowpants and lots of sweaters, pants, and socks. Make sure you have good boots and have your face face completely hidden. A hood is great.

Whatever you do find some way to keep yourself out of the wind. Hopefully you'll have tents or somethin. If not you can bury yourself under a bunch of snow.

But this message probably comes to late.

I doubt even I could handle that.

Good luck out there.
