Thread: On PvP Is there anything to be done to counterattack the FT?!?!?!

Okay, I don't mind dying in PvP. But this is getting old...

EVERY other class in the game is pretty well balanced combat wise. I can hold my own (0-2-0-1 Doc, 0-3-0-0 Carbineer, Novice CH) against even a master BH. Look, I don't want to become a stupid Commando and I refuse to change simply because they're the strongest combatant in the game.

But this flamethrower crap is for the birds. The sheer fact that I have repeatedly watched as one commando or one commando with a healing friend can take out a group of 5-10 players. Like I said, I don't mind dying, but to die repeatedly in ONE SHOT is ridiculous. God forbid if one uses flamecone... one commando in heavy armor can easilly charge a group of people and take them ALL out in one shot!

Is there anything I can do to counter the effects of the flamethrower? I am sick of getting 1shot.

The rest of Commando rocks, and I'm not screaming nerf. What I am suggesting is this:

If there's nothing to be done, the flamethrower's damage needs to be dealt as a DoT rather than doing the bulk of it in the first shot. Think of this logically, the wounds are so on target with the action a real flamethrower would have. But how much damage is actually done the moment the fire hits you? Very little compared to the burning flames that stick around after that.

Look, it at least needs to be changed for PvP. Do what you want to the mobs... but no one (especially a doctor who can heal over 1300 H/Ain one stim use) should be one-shot in PvP. Even the mind bleeds of the rifleman and the diseases of the combat medic take time to do their damage.

Isn't there at least one commando out there who can admit the flamethrower is overpowered?
Isn't there at least one way to truly combat this devastating attack without resorting to becoming a commando?

What you have experienced is the melee damage bug, it is a known bug that we want fixed. For some reason when you let a commando get within melee range SWG treats it as a melee weapon and if you are prone or have a rifle equipped it gives the 3x damage for such. Its a freaking bug. Until it is fixed don't let em get close enough to you to use it to their advantage. So stop whining. It sounds like you were toasted fair and square, a commando using their head is a very tough opponant, but we are not invincable. There are many things that negate our advantages, you just haven't figured them out yet.

Another nerf cry. I'd like to know where these super invincible commandos are that can take on loads of people so I can get their secret. Quite frankly, whenever I have to attack somebody, I have to get right in their face to use the flame single and pray that it doesn't miss. If I miss or if they're too far away or if they're kiting, it's eyeshot, eyeshot, eyeshot, dead. Plus, when fighting others, commandos seem to be probably one of the easiest hybrid professions to beat. All I had to do was get far enough from the flamethrower's range and just keep blasting and there was nothing he could do since the flamethrower is weak and inaccurate from long range. You have carbine skills, use them (remember I said skills with an s, spamming your one strongest move won't be enough. Use some strategy). As for fighting melee opponents, it's been well known that the melee professions need to be worked on and the flamethrower melee bug needs to be fixed. Other than that, TKA are probably one of the opponents I feat the most next to BH. Once they hit me with that dizzy knockdown, I'm toast. Plus they're more accurate and faster than me so they're much more likely to land that move.

Oh and another thing. Flame cone is bugged. It only applies damage to the primary target and can possibly apply the DOT to people in it's path but it's a very small path and if several people are so close together and so close to the commando that they all get hit, there's a lack of intelligence there. Again I must emphasize that the flamethrower is a close range weapon. When you're playing an FPS, do you run right up close to the guy carrying a shotgun with your sniper rifle?

And if you truly think the commando is overpowered, go on another server and make a commando character and see how difficult it is to dish out damage.

First off, brokenglass, I stated specifically that I'm not crying for a nerf. If you'd actually bothered to read my post, you'd understand that (yes, I'm frustrated but...) I'm asking how I can counter the damage that's being done. NOT ASKING FOR A NERF.

Secondly, you seem to take this personally and attack me by saying "use some strategy"? You have no idea and obviously are immune to reason. Not everyone has eyeshot, smartguy. Not everyone wants to or is a Bounty Hunter, Commando, or Creature Handler. See, what you're missing is that I use a helluvalot more strategy than you can possibly imagine. I'm successful in easilly 90% of my fights... because I use strategy and I have planned out my character.

Third point: Until the poster above you made his statements, I was not aware of this flamethrower melee bug and I'm quite happy to hear that it IS in fact a BUG. You could take a page from his book on learning a decent way to approach statements and helping people without coming off like a total ***hole.

Fourth, Yes, I have carbine skills and I know very well how to use them. In fact, prior to the posture-change nerf, I was able to take on any Commando. But I'm glad they nerfed that, you know why? I was overpowered and I'm willing to admit that.

You got anything constructive to say, or you just gonna try and belittle me? Cuz it doesn't work with the unecucated and unresearched (?) arguments you're using. Try asking me a question or two before ASSuming that I know nothing.

Now then... on to the compliment for the other, more reasonable one who responded.

Thank you VERY much, Ozzy!!

I did not know that I've been dealing with a bug!! hahaha SOrry to laugh but you have no idea how happy I am to hear not only that it's a bug, but one you guys want fixed too!

I've been trying sooooooooooo many different things...
I've tried every type of armor with the best heat ratings I could find.
I've tried Bio-Engineered clothing with heat defenses.

It has really cost me a load of credits and I got frustrated because I'm still getting nailed with my best stuff equipped.

Now that you've informed me, I feel I can wait patiently for the bug to be fixed. Thank you very much for your help.

just because you pissed me off, glassboy... I'm going to make it easy for someone with your intellect. Here's a restatement of one simple sentence that sums it up. (Of course, had you read my post...)

The rest of commando far from rocks, the field tactics line is pretty much useless. the HAR line is even more useless, heavy weapon is probably the most balanced tree in the commando line...

Well I can say this, Ft specials need ot be within 16m to do damage however the Ft normal fire can shoot at 64m with fairly good accuracy while both i was running and my opponet was running. This is what happened....

Commando TEf killed me, I repsawend called my pet TEF killed him. He respawned I started running, he gave cash attacking me and starting ifreing his FT, at the start i was about 80m away from him, he does burst run i didnt.... already used it in a couple seconds i start getting hosed in flame, not a problem i figure im a CM i can heal this 400 daamge easily, as long as i dont get a dot on me, about 2-3 heals later, he hits me for 300 action then 400 action back to back before i can heal, and wham im incapped.

The problem is at Flame 4 with a good made FT(not hard to find) a person can slice his FT down to 1.9 normal attack speed (+modifiers added) so now in pvp if a commando has the possibility of doing around 184 dps. With special i beleive the delay on those can be reduced to around 7 seconds.

The question is..... Is the intended effect the devs want? Well I cant answer that, but i can say move over im dabbling in commando for that ft damage!

It's real easy to counter the Flame Thrower... Don't stand and look at it!

I mean, keep moving and don't get close, they have limited range.

I love Commandos, I group up all the time with a friend who is a Commando and quite franky, Commandos rock!

I can take down Commandos fairly easy as long as I don't stand there and try to go toe to toe with them, the minute I stop, I'm toast. IMO it's all about tactics, stick and move, stick and move.

To answer the question(i think), good composite armor, food/doc/spice buffs. That will counter the flamethrower.

But you have to be able to kill the Commando, even if he cannot kill you. Which means, if you cannot KD/Dizzy or attack his mind pool, you prolly cant kill him due to the fact that even a Novice(0,0,0,0) medic can use 400 Stim Bs. It is completely possible, that the combination of points you spent on your professions, cannot kill a commando. If that is the case, then you should 1. Respec , or 2. Request that your chosen profession gets enhanced in some way.

And just so you know, Flamethrowers are NOT the most powerful Commando weapons. As I said, its not hard to counter being 1 shot or even 2 shot by a flamethrower. Rocket Launchers, Proton Grenades and HPBCs on the other hand, are much hard to defend against.

Make no mistake, Commandos are tough. Not gods, but tough. As they should be.

Should we tell him that 3x damage modifier only applys to riflemen?

I've faced plenty of commandos and I happen to be one. Theres no real way to counter the flamethrower without armor and shields. And doc buffs. Even these will take you down pretty fast because the dot applys 100% of its damage to you and ignores resists (even if the damage you take from the flamethrower goes from 1000 to 500 the damage it deals will still be 1/3rd of 1000). This is (well at least I think of it as) a bug aswell and should get fixed next patch (Not sure, heard this and heard that and I have no idea).\

I could say use distance but then I would be a hypocrit because I take out distant targets just as fast either either the flamethrower's normal shots or a rocket launcher In truth the flamethrower is only effective against multiple targets IF and ONLY IF you use flame cone and it hits everyone, otherwise your stuck, unable to even heal yourself or burst run. Commandos use alot more strategy then you think Zeonz. Its ALOT tougher to pull off a special then everyone thinks. As someone once said, easier said then done.

Riflemen are getting shaft when facing a commando right now. I'm willing to bet that all these crys about being one shotted are just a result of that bug. So any riflemen reading this please tell your other rifle buddies that this is a bug and we hope for our sake it is fixed soon (we don't want to get nerfed because of a bug).
