Med clothing caps at +25 injury/wound treatment and Bivoli (chef food) also helps in increasing buffs. I think the highest Bivoli is +25 (I'm not 100% on this though).

Hey, gang.
Just started down the long (and I'm told slow) Creature Handler road. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of accompanying professions. I've started Pikeman, have Rifle 4, and I'm working on Master Scout now. Scout, Ranger and CH seem like a good mix, but that would leave me almost no skill points left for a combat class. Would ranged or melee be better for helping my pets in combat? Is it worth getting Ranger (someone in-game said it's a crap prof and not worth getting, but I thought Area Track would be useful when out pet-hunting)?
I'm kinda stuck. I really like CH as my 'hobby' profession (it quickly took over from Music) and I'd like to master it so I can get some of the rare cats like Crimson Razor and Great Plains Stalker. I currently have a lvl 12 Gurrcat called Spot (he goes everywhere with me, and has 98 vit. to show for it) and a lvl 13 Razor Cat (both bazaar bought).
I still read people complaining about this nerf that happened way back when in the mists of time. What was Creature Handler like before this so-called nerf? Oh, and for those that think only CH has been nerfed, try checking the other prof boards. It seems everyone complains about being 'nerfed' around here.
Cheers in advance,

OK going to answer your question first.. Pick any ranged combat but I would get Rifle / Medic / MCH just my 2 cents here.
As for the nerf's no other class has been nerfed even close to the CHer. At this point pets are not worth having ingame as they have been nerfed to make other classes better..
- All pets nerfed to make BE pets better
- Best pets no longer spawn babies to keep pets from being better than droids
- level 70 cap on pets so you can't ever have 3 good pets out
- skill nerf for calling harder pets before you get master level
The list goes on and on from here I am sure other will add more I am just to depressed to post more of it all.. Makes me want WoW out so I can play a ballanced pet class.

Ya know, I've been playing MMO's for more than 2 years. I've had experience on Anarchy (not much because that game blows), Earth & Beyond, Asheron's Call, Lineage, Eve Online, and of course Galaxies. One thing that always strikes me (and really depresses me) is the amount of complaining that goes on in the forums. I'm not saying complaints aren't valid, but they're always the exact same complaints.
"The Devs are useless. They hate us because they nerfed _insert_class/race/profession_here_. I've been playing since beta and I hate the Devs and I hate the game because the Devs have ruined it. I can't wait till _insert_game_name_here_ comes out because it'll be perfect."
That's the exact same argument I've heard on every forum from Anarchy to E&B and Eve, and guess what? It's a load of gundark droppings! The people that use that argument here will be the exact same people that, in six months, will be using that exact same argument on the WoW forums, or the City Of Heroes forums - or whatever MMO they've left Galaxies to plague with the same, tired complaints.
Is Galaxies brocken? Yes. Is it buggy? Yes. Do the classes need rebalancing? Hell, yes! However, the Devs are busy working on something YOU all asked for a year ago. JTL. They're working on something YOU all moaned about. Hologrinding and the path to Jedi. You can bet that the people that are whining about JTL getting in the way of the Combat Revamp timetable are the exact same people that would kick up all hell if they'd worked on both simultaneously and done a half assed job on each.
At the end of the day, the Devs DO care; and they ARE trying to fix all the problems and stuff we want fixed. But they can't do it overnight. Of course the Devs bloody care, if we all buggered off they'd be out of jobs. However, has anyone stopped to think that maintaining one of the world's biggest MMO's might actually involve a bit of work? There's, what? 20 servers? All have to be perfectly synchronised, various patches have to be written and re-written to ensure they're stable. Then there's the 400,000 players all screaming abuse at you on a daily basis because they didn't get what they wanted when they wanted it because you were too busy working on something else they'd asked for 6 months ago.
Anyway, I've gone completely off topic, my bad.
Thanks for the advice. I'm really stuck on whether to go with Rifle for ranged, or Pikeman so I can get in there with my pets and let all hell fly with my area attacks. Also, I'd still like to know if it's actually worth doing anything with Ranger when I get Master Scout. If not, I'm dropping Master Scout straight away so I can drop trapping (I never use it).
Maybe some of you more combat oriented Handlers out there can lend some advice. I'd really like a nice combat mix so my pets can back me up in a fight and we can both be effective.

the crimson razor cat is a lvl 29 pet so you would have to be up the tree a bit and as for nerfs and the general hatered towards dev's as of late its more of a let down by them they have made a lot of promises which have been broken as of late by their own admission. Ie the combat rebalance which would have been the publish 11. but has been postponed until next year sometime. so yes alot of people whom have been with this game from the beginning and that have waited all this time for fixes have a right to be angry.
just off the top of my head the broken profs are ranger, smuggler pistoleer and ch. Creature handlers were the first to be affected by the combat rebalance and unfortuantly we are the only ones now every one else has been left alone if you dont believe me go hunt with a combat medic or a tkm our pets dont even do a tenth of the dmg but we still like them and use them. Me Im a pikeman and Master ch have been a master ch first and foremost and probably always will be but I outdmg my own pets and unless hunting solo I keep them stored and in good condition but this is off the subject the fact is yes we complain about the devs but at the same time they admitted to changing their plans yet again to appease their bosses and leave us the paying customers out in the cold yet again. if you disagree with this thats fine but seeing your still new from looks of it I would suggest reading the develoment forums witht the message great expetations its near the top before
commenting about us always whining and complaining about wht developers do.

I just always seem to hear the same complaints, game in, game out. It gets old quick when all you see on forums is people moaning about the same things, game after game after game. For those of you living in the real world WoW won't be better, and neither will City of Heroes. In six months time when those developers are trying to please everyone you'll be moaning about them, too.
So, please, if you're going to WoW or CoH, please hurry up and go! Then, in 8 months, I'll come along to the forums for those games and laugh as I read the same tired complaints "Whaa, this game sucks, _instert_game_here_ will be better than this pos." Things will get better, and they will move in the right direction, but you need to have patience and give it time. Things in the gaming industry don't happen overnight. Be thankful you don't have the E&B team working here. They hardly did anything with that game for a year and it cost them their jobs, and the game itself. Although, I'd be willing to bet a part of that was EA's fault.
ANYWAY, talk about getting off topic.
Back to my original question. Anyone have any suggestions for a really good combat partnership prof for CH. Is it worth me getting novice Ranger to help find critters, or should I just drop trapping from scout and spend those points elsewhere? At the moment I'm novice Pikeman (xx1x), novice CH (x1x1), nearly master scout, marksman (4xx4), and some medic thrown in for good measure (2113). I was thinking of dropping marksman and doing master pikeman with master CH. I'd set my pets to guard while I tank for them. I belt something with my lance and let my pets go spastic on it while I keep swinging away. Does anyone know if this works in practice, or is this the quick way to cloning heaven? If I go melee, should I think about dropping pike and working up the swordsman road instead since I've heard they can PVE just about anything?
As I said before, I always thought Scout, Ranger, CH made a good combo on paper. However, since our pets aren't the weapons they should be, this is kinda out of the question now.
One last quick question. What's up with my datapad? My stored pets mod says +6, but I can store at least 7 pets (haven't tried 8). I only found this out after I bought a mountain dewback for 5k off another CH (I was probably ripped off, but there's a heard of them living near me and I kinda fell in love with them) and the dewback went into my datapad, no fuss. Also, fully grown, he's cl20 and I can only do cl16 atm, so how come I can call him? Can I only call him up until he surpasses my cl skill lvl?
Cheer in advance,
Any

I am a TKM MCH and it works pretty well if I use pets for distraction/state effects and TKM for killing. In fact it works extremely well in PVE because all the critters were nerfed with our pets. PVP however is a different story. Most pets will only last a few seconds in PVP.
By the way this nerf that happened was an intentional rebalance for the upcoming (six months ago) combat rebalance. The reason people here are so mad is because we had a working class that was broken for a rebalance that will probably be a year away from the time they did changes to CH. We are the only thing they have changed so far for the rebalance and it has left us severely imbalanced. The combat revamp keeps getting pushed back but we are left in our current state.

Amen to you Anyndel...the moaning does get a bit much
. I'm going master ranger/master ch and 0030 pistoleer. I'm at the pistoleer and almost at the master ranger and about half way through ch atm. I'm really enjoying playing these classes even though all three are "broken". Sure I can't solo a nightsister elder or prolly even a rancor (I havent tried) but I really have a lot of fun playing. I suggest that you definitly take novice ranger for the areatrack as I cant tell you how many times I would have missed babies without it but maybe to put the rest into a combat proff if you want to kill larger things than I care to. It's really a balance beween how much tracking and how much weapons you want but you'll figure that out yourself. Btw the pistols seem to go ok with the two because I make good use of my traps and have my pets take aggro mid fight to share the damage.
Anyway thats my (probably unique) opinion so have fun
