I've recently made novice commando, i plan to pick up most (maybe all) commando, am currently CH 1/1 using a gronda (5.5kHAM, ar 1) with novice medic.

I currently have pistoleer and almost exp for a first box, but i can't decide if it's worth the effort.

I would imagine i'm going to be going all out with the flamethrower once i have flame 3.

Do you guys find you still use your launcher? Both in PvE and PvP?

I know this is asked a lot but wanted to get opinions of those of you who have flame 4, to see if you actually use your launcher still.

I was originaly planning on going up to stopping shot, but now i'm wondering if i'd be best just sticking with my flamer and expendables and sticking the extra points into a better pet tank and better healing.

I do have a couple of kick ass launchers available to me (assuming i don't break them before i hit flame 3, a 2.1 speed 350 max and a 2.4 speed 378 max, both very krayt enhanced and sliced of cause

i would go thru pistoleer for body shot 3... and of course health shot 2... as the bleeds stack, when you can healthshot 1 and 2, THEN flame 1 and 2, you get something like a sick uber bleed... i have meat for you jingo.. it will be on your vendor when the corellian stuff goers out of shift...

Going for that tree and getting bodyshot 3 was my alternative to going for stopping shot.

How much better is body shot3 than 2? becuase i'd be getting the boxes just for that.

Oh and what pool damage do the flame specials do?

body shot 3 is about 1/3rd-1/2 better than bodyshot 2... and the flame specials take out of Health, I only got flame 1 last night, but i am already half way to flame spec 2 due to the massive dmg flame 1 does, and the damage over time... it bleeds at about 1/2-1/3 of the origional amount of dmg, and as im hitting for 3000, well you can see how this helps out...

been talking to a pistoleer friend and he says BS3 sucks, does more damage than BS 2 but is slower.

He's recomending just double tap, which is health pool and points into speed.

Pistoleer can be useful against commandos. I've noticed that I'm using the launcher pistol more and more when it comes to long range battles and it's great for commando dabblers who think they're invincible with the flamethrower then realize it's useless from far away.

You can take this for what it's worth, but I'm a Commando who used to be a 3-2-4-2 pistoleer. My advice is just get novice pistoleer. Health shot 2 was the only worthwhile special on the tree as far as I'm concerned. Stacking the health shots for double bleeds will always be useful, especially on tough mobs that are out of burn range from the flamethrower. Body Shot 3 is either broken or just plain stinks. In fact I use Body Shot 1 instead of 2 due to minimal damage increase and twice the time to get off BS 2. The double taps, stopping shots, etc. are decent attacks, but I found I can down my opponentfaster using a Body Shot targeting the health as opposed to points being drained from all 3 HAM bars.

It all comes down to points. I found myself not using any of the other attacks, so I was able to use those very valuable points elsewhere.

Good thread... I've been considering some Pistoleer for the LP too.

Hmmmm, I'm not a commando, but I am going up the pistoleer tree.

I'm currently 0-0-2-1 (almost 0-0-3-0) and I LOVE double-tap and hear that Stopping Shot (the 3rd box of branch 3) is even better. With my FWG5 that's 51-190, I can do up to 900 or so with Double-tap and consistantly do 5-600 on it. Reading the description for stopping shot sounds even cooler

Simple answer is to pick up any skills now that you qualify for and as you need to, dump things to recover skill points.

I have some CH, Commando, Pistoleer skills.

As I level up in commando i'll dump the pistoleer then some mad skills.

But i at lease have some now to use until I run out of skill points again.

I think Thorphe's point was that Stopping Shot really isn't that useful for a Commando who will be using a FT or HW primarily.

I can see his point, especially in PvE where the mobs are dumb and don't mind if you stand 16m away and fry them repeatedly... and in PvE, you want to hit the same pool with every shot if possible.Stopping shot is too random.

But I can also see where Stopping Shot would be great for PvP battles. You can't always get close enough for the FT.

I think it all depends on how much PvP you do. I PvP'd a lot in DAoC, but I'm not a big fan of PvP in this game (incredibly unbalanced) so I'll probably just hang with Novice Pistoleer.

I will be a mix of pvp and pve, i've pvp'd in other games and imagine i will get into pvp here before long, but i also like to go hunting with friends, so i don't want to be one thing at the expence of another.

The other problem is i don't have the pistol exp, so i will need to grind it, that's not a great problem, but a consideration.

My pistoleer friend hates stopping shot, doesn't think it's worth it, he uses fan shot and before that he used double tap even when he had stopping due to the delay on stopping.

I think double tap might be what i go for. I want something that does enough to be viable for PvP support at non flamer times, double tap is cheep enough and i guess i can drop it if i decide it's not enough advantage over BS2 or that i don't use my LP that much.

There are a few things the Pistoleer gets that are interesting. Attack speed mods, ranged knock down, and defensive mods. The big questions are do they work, how beneficial are they, and are they worth the points.

A launcher pistol with increased accuracy and speed might be a very helpful tool for fighting over 16M from the target. Im not sure it would beat just blasting away with the default flame attack though.
