Thread: Some of you CMs need to rethink what your profession is about...

I just got through reading page one and two of these boards.

I think there are a lot of combat medics whose views are skewed as to what thier class's niche is.

Area effect heals, and a useful, but NOT godlike DoT. The big damage is left to the combat only professions. Bottom line; a CM is NOT a viable soloist, UNLESS he picks up other skills.

CMs are supposed to get stronger in groups; both med and weapon wise. A good CM and a small group of 4 or 5 can take out most things in the game, and make good xp/hour doing it because the presence of the CM allows the group size to be smaller.

I know you guys are pissed about your LOS poison nerf, but it just reinforces the underlying theme of the profession; to solo is human, to group is divine.

lol thisis something that we cant resolve because everyone has a different opinion...

it would help if the devs came out and told us what they invisioned...

it will be impossible for the player base to decide this because there are too many varying opinions...

we have asked over and over again for the devs to come out and tell us what they think the class should be...the devs refuse to answer

so the debate goes on...

and adding a CM to a xp group doesnt really help right now because of issues with mind damage...

and actually not havingLOS made much more sense for support than making it LOS...now u will force us to come out and attack and that will directly take away from healing...before we could augment damage in grp while healing staying out of sight and thus out of danger so we could heal...now that u remove LOS, you have turned us into a front line attack class...

and Dots were not godlike...in fact they still do less DPS then every major combat class...

pistoleer dish out more H damage then we do in the same amount of time...

carbineers dish out more A damage then we do in the same amount of time

rifleman and BHs dish out more mind damage then we do in the same amount of time

so before u go off calling our dots godlike look at the numbers...

if anything was godlike it was our ability to do mind damage which is unhealable...and thus mind damage not mind poison was overpowered...

considering no one complained about Health or Action Poison and only about mind poison when health and Action poison was doing the exactly the same DPS as the mind poison just proves that the issue was mind damage and its unhealable aspects...

now the fact that the community as a whole was completely ignorant about the this issue, they all called out against LOS and not the real issue which was mind damage...

so in fact the devs have no defined CM as a front line melee class dishing out aoe unhealable mind damage at 40m...this just means CMs have become the new suicide bombers of the game...oh u will kill me...but u will all be hit by serious mind poison before i die...

what u fail to see is that adding LOS will not stop the complaints people had about mind damage....it will still be there...it will still do a lot of unhealable mind damage it will still incap you over and over for 20 mins...

if u think the nerf to LOS was a good thing to CM class then u have zero idea of how perfectly dots worked for the class...dots let use attack and heal the group without having come out and attack people in the open...so grats the devs just took ur best healers out of the game...hope u remember that next time u are screaming heal heal and look around to find ur CM KDed and dead...

SOE dropped the ball again with the LOS nerf...what they should have done was look at the power of mind damage not LOS...its ridiculous...has CMs only had access to H and A damage i promise you non-LOS would still be in game...

but people like u whined about how "godlike" mind damage was without even realizing that the 3 other classes in the game that do mind damage do it faster and harder then we did...

sry about the acidic tone of the above post...but its frustrating when people dont understand the class they are screaming nerf about....

if god like poisons were the problem, then people would be complainingabout all poisons in general...but no one said a peep about H and A poisons...just mind poisons...

so if u are going to complain about poison apply the complaints to all the poisons...

otherwise maybe u are looking at the wrong issue...

First off, where in my post did I call for a nerf?

Second, LOS is exactly what CM needed. The ability to do that kind of poison to an area from cover is just plain unbalanced. The penalty for thatkind of power SHOULD be bodily risk.Besides, what is keeping you from applying that DoT a few seconds into the fight when everyone is nice and occupied, rather than using it as the starting attack? I don't know what xp (if any) it modifies, but don't you think it's a little greedy? Maybe you SHOULD be incapped for trying to get the group xp edge, instead of playing your support role like you are supposed to.

You took my post out of context. I was calling attention to the fact than many people think CMs should be viable soloists, or even an important COMBAT addition to a group. That is flawed thinking. A CM should join a group to heal, and apply a few DoTs if they have the time and opportunity. Anything else SHOULD get you killed.

Move on Benedict,

you're opinion is only one opinion.Sounds like you were soloing and didn't have a Dr with you to rez/cure you. SOE shouldn't have called the class "Combat Medic", if they only planned on it being "Range Medic Support". The LOS added a dimension to the game where (both sides), had to use more tactics, ie, flanking manuevers, spreading out, coordinated assaults on buildings. Now, it's just a "Zerg fest", which is what drove me out of DAoC.

I liked not knowing when/if I'd get hit from a poison (mind or otherwise). If you worry about it, keep a doctor with you, and pay attention to your radar. In the open, a weapon-based class should have the advantage of range, etc. In close combat, TKA and CMs should have more "Combat" utility.

Oh, and weapons still shoot through tents and somes walls. CH pets can still attack through walls. BHs can kill you before you even get to react. I don't want them nerfed, it all adds some multi-dimensional play.

do the words chemical warfare expert mean anything to you?

doesnt sound like the title of someone who's all kind and happy and just heals people. if our job was pure healing with ranged and aoe the profession would be called field medic. notice the word combat. i stress that point of my profession. the medic part is secondary. just because you feel that i should stand in the back healing you doesnt mean im going to. i heal as I feel nessesary. but generally not untill ive gotten 2 ae bleeds in. ( carbine and poison) if you feel the profession is all about standing in the back supporting others then feel free to play you charecter that way but untill i see dev under your name you telling me what my profession is about is insulting.

i wonder why we are required to get combat exp for our profession if its not combat oriented. hmmm combat exp is in the marksman lines. how did people get combat exp. they killed stuff with weapons. doesnt really seem support oriented to me. does that sound support oriented to you?

maybe you should learn how the class operates. you get xp for applying the poison not for actuall damage. so us getting the group xp edge doesnt really happen. i'd actually get more xp healing a rifleman in a h2h fight. then i will dropping poison/disease grenades and and helping the kills go faster. i am mostly in the front lines of the fight. so the los nerf is only annoying to me. but any nerf that was not well thought out and just done to quiet whiney little bitches just plain pisses me off.

you ask whats keeping me from applying the dot 5 seconds into a fight vs at the very begining. its the very nature of dots. its damage over time. the more time the dot is on a target the more damage it does. if i wait 5 seconds to throw the dot then ive lost damage. is this getting through to you?

noone is taking your post out of context. its very clear you got your ass owned by a few combat medics and now your here going "see its what you needed" instead of trying to understand the class to find an effective method of combating or fixing the primary issue being mind damage is bunk any way its dealt orlearning to play with the skills you chose.

Hmm... because I likemost ofZelazny's works, I'll have to side with Benedict.

Seriously though,Benedict does have a point. We are FAR more efficent damage healers than doctors/medics (especially with AOE stims). As such, if we're in a large group we can greatly increase each group member's survivability(and thus, overall group DPS) by playing the role of a primary healer.

And I don't think that Benedict's post made it seem like he got his a$$ owned by a CM. It's just that Elenora's rant immediately after his post colors it that way.

or maybe the healer folks need to understand that ae poison's and disease were a reason some of us chose the profession. i compliement my carbines ae damage with my diseases and poisons both ae. to me ranged and ae stims are gravy. the fact that i can ae heal in a pinch is nice. when im the only healer type i do that role. when not i play backup and let the doctors put the big kill me sign abovethierheads.

What angered me what his comment about

how nerfing LOS on dot just reinforces the theme of the class...which it complete does...if anything it goes against everything the class stands for...

to me that the same as him calling for a nerf on LOS which wasnt really needed...

cuz its not gonna stop the problems people complained about...

20 mins duration on mind damage...500 damage mind poisons...

they are all still there...LOS did nothing to address ur issues...

U obvously have no idea how slow dots kill...or are complete oblivious that they can be healed...

it will take me about 15-30 secs to kill a player with a dot. This is way slower than any master combat class can kill with their main weapon...

so lets be fair...now that we have los on poisons lets remove cure poison and disease line from the doctor...

last time i checked weapons didnt have a counter in any class that could complete nullify their effectiveness before they tick off.

You want dots to be like normal weapons with LOS...fair enough...lets put in a cure for acidshotsfrom DX2s, or laserblasts from rifles and carbines before they do damage.

in fact lets go one further...weapons will now not damage a target until 8 secs after it hits the target...and will only do damge every 8 secs...and doctors now have a pack that can basically remove any damage that will occur to u with a pack...

ok lets also be fair and add combat effects to poisons...now they will blind dizzy and KD all in the same shot...after all poison is just another weapon should be treated like every other...

while we are at it lets add a stat to Dots that can speed up how fast they tick too just like other weapons...

so u wanna balance it out? go all the way...dont stop with CM...be fair go after all the classes...

One combat medic can support a group of5 hunters in PvE.

One combat medic can also support a full group of 20 hunters in PvE.

If group size allowed it (and one's screen resolution), one combat medic could probably support 30 or perhaps even 40 hunters in PvE.

However, regardless of group size, people will still be falling over dead left and right because...

Mind damage rules this game

But the healing impotenceof a combat medic doesn't really even begin until you PvP - one combat medic cannot support a group of any size. So, why not try and become a damage dealin machine?

Who the heck thinks a CM isn't a good soloist? You talking PvP or PvE?

In PvE I haven't had any trouble soloing anywhere except for some creatures on Endor. I don't know where you think we can't be good soloists. Perhaps a master CM isn't a good soloist, though I doubt that, but I left treatment speed at 0 and haven't felt like I've needed it. I'm working toward master at CM crafting and I'm sure I'll be even better at PvE soloing then. Perhaps then those bats on Endor will go down. Other than that, I really haven't had a problem soloing. Tactics make all the difference. I solo creatures that alot of other people pass by.

In PvP I haven't had a problem soloing there either. In a one-on-one battle I haven't had many problems. Of course, in group PvP when the darned IMPs have their AT's out, well who's gonna solo then anyway?

Now of course, it's not my CM abilities that make me a good solo player; but it's not just my Pistoleer skills nor my CH skills either. I know CH's that can't solo efficiently because of the bad downtime and their inability to heal effectively during combat. I know Pistoleers that have to avoid aggro lairs because of the same reason; they don't have time to use warning shot or suppression fire before they get incapped/killed by 4 or 5 aggro creatures.

Soloing? No problem.

Knowing how to play the class in an efficient manner makes all the difference.
