Thread: How many Combat MEDICS out there?

i think many of you know by now that i have been reading the boards quite a bit, and have been trying (though not always successfully) to keep my post constructive and positive by contributing ideas that may help to fix, and improve not only the Combat Medic class, but SWG as a whole.

this morning i woke up and read yet another thread threatinging a PvP damage reduction and the simple 'fact' that it is going to happen no matter what we do or say and we should just face it and accept it and yadda, yadda, yadda.

for the first time (i've no idea WHY it took so long to sink in) i realized that i could care LESS about a reduction in damage in PvP. i am 99.9% a PvE player. i use my MEDIC skills to heal myself and my poor lvl 10 pets and to HEAL OTHER PLAYERS!!. i love the feeling i get wheni am running off to a mission or some distant destination and iheal a player in trouble, REAL trouble, swarmed by mobs or suffering at the hands (or claws and teeth) of a mob they just did not realize was going to be that tough. i like the feeling of tossing a heal from 50-60m and watching thecharacter's Health and Action heal up almost instantly. one more stim and they are as good as new and back in the fight. if the mob is low on HAM and i feel certian that the player is going to be the victor in the confrontation, more often than not i will not stick around to see the final blow. i just run off and continue my business(who was that masked healer anyway? )with my latest CM also taking up master rifleman (so there is some chance for the toon to survive the tougher places) i am egar to find a good spot at fort tuskan and some of the other more difficult spots and just lob powerful Area Stims on players until my toon's arm falls off (or until the Stims run out, which ever comes first). i took up the class to be a healer (for three different toons mind you). that is how i play the class, and that is how i will CONTINUE to play the class.

this having been said, i am NOT going to stop battling for the improvement of SWG as a whole and i am NOT going to stop battling to keep the working classes working, avoiding nerfs at all costs in favor of improvements of other classes, introduction of items, weapons, foods and class based skills that will help balance combat AND game play.

this long-winded post was created to ask a very simple question:

How many Combat MEDICS are there out there?
Players who took up the profession as a HEALING profession with some combat skills. NOT as a way to get an edge in PvP?

ME! I didn't even realize you could do disease/poison when I decided to try it... it wasn't until I can to this board and saw all of the nerfcries that I realized it. I have only PvPed twice and that was before I was a CM. I did it mainly to help my friends as an ranged/area healer during our hunts. I am the type of player that likes to see what is going on around me in relation to my group. I was a Squal Leader during an insane moment whereI had decided to crack open a Holocron and chase what it said. I didn't enjoy SL because I think it is "broken" and worthless, but I did enjoy removing states and helping aim etc. So when I dropped it, I decided to go Medical and at Master Medic I made a choice and went CM for the Area Cures.

Then next time I went out hunting, I healed my friends almost the whole time... no one got incapped except when I was trying to fight and not kill. I did not have any poison yet so I was not trying to be an offensive CM. I realized that I wanted to be a support character with some offensive power so I decided to Master CM and then Master Doctor and forget about Pistoleer. There is enough going on in a group battle in a medical sense that I felt comfortable just doing that.

I am no a solo artist and at this time I am not into PvP (althought I might jump into the GCW once I have learned the ways of the CM/Doc abilities). That is my story... thanks for reading.

I don't use poison or disease either. Since i don't pvp i don't see the point. As i'm aslo a master rifleman i can do MUCH more damage MUCH quicker that way. But BOY does my party LOVE my AREA stims

I am also a 99.9% PvE player. A fact that I am quite vocal about it as well.

Still I would like Poisons and Diseases to actually be increased in damage output just for this reason.

I enjoy being the support character of my group. I truly do. I help the others out of tight spots all the time. I always come with my PA on outings and big game hunt and I'm usually beset by requests to come join a group in progress on some godforsaken planet and met by /salute and /cheer when I arrive.
That feels great.

But I would like to have a edge of my own in PvE. I want my poisons to:
a) Count towards my ability to manage missions and thus get higher ranking missions even when I solo. (i top out at 4k on Naboo being 3313 Carbineer and mostly get missions at 2k a pop)
b) Actually do some difference when I'm fighting a High HAM mob. Sure, I could drop meatlumps in droves with AoE-poisons but I can do that with a carbine as well. I want to feel that my poisons help me against Bolle Bols, Arachnae and Storm Troopers. I Do solo a lot and I would like poisons to count then as well.

Carbicide: "The victimless crime!"
BTW Yes it is true, I've tested it myself, poison only ticks once every TEN seconds!

/agree i too would like the fact that i have taken the time, effort and MONEY, MONEY, MONEY to Master the profession to be reflected in my choise of missions. true we are a support class, but if i am out taking solo missions, i am supporting ONLY myself, and i have the ability to use both my weapon and poisons and diseases combined, making me a slightly more effective fighter (in spite of the fact that CMs get NO defences of their own)
b) Actually do some difference when I'm fighting a High HAM mob. Sure, I could drop meatlumps in droves with AoE-poisons but I can do that with a carbine as well. YES. it is MORE than a little frustrating to have to wait for the some times very megar damage to take effect in PvE. i know that the Devs are capable of distiguishing PvE damage from PvP damage as evidenced by the 75% PvP damage reduction. the new spider poisons are nice, but i have yet to get my hands on any, or try them at all so i've no idea what they have done for PvE. again, it would be nice for the Poisons and Diseases to do the kind of damage in PvE as people say they do in PvE. perhaps the system of damage could just litterally be reversed LOL. put the PvE damage into PvP and vice versa!

First and only reason I took up CM was becuase of ranged and area stims. I got sick of chasing people up and down the sides of mountains to hit them with a stim

I knew about disease and poisons, but I could never find the resources to make them worth anything at all and then one day a vendor popped up and I discovered how awesome poisons and disease were, especially in PvE

If they nerf poisons and diseases I hope they remove the need for ranged support line of marksman to make up for it.

i would *love* that for PvE

however,i doubt they willincrease ourPvE damage unless they change theway poisons/diseases are calculated in PvP, which a lot of people don't like. i don't PvP much so i don't really have a suggestion for that, but i hope someone comes up with something reasonable

I've only been in pvp 3 times and all 4 opponents who ATTACKED ME were combat medics. In fact, they were combat medics with other professions which didn't matter like TKA and Pistoleer. Only the mind poison mattered and eventually incapped me multiple times.

"Here we go back to the AT-ST issue. The AT-ST's will allways be weak. If the AT-ST's were the War Machines they're suppose to be, then the Rebels Will Cry, and Threaten to Quit. This is why AT-ST's are garbage. This is also why you'll NEVER see the AT-AT controlled by Imperial players. Notice when ever a rebel player dies by your AT-ST you will Tell after Tell saying how dirty and cheap you are. This is why this game doesnt feel like Starwars, because Rebels will never except(In this game) that the empire is in control. And they feel that their faction should be equal to the imperial faction." - Melanoid the Wise

My name is Vinoe on the wanderhome sever, I took up CM to HEAL other players as well. The poisons and diseases are just a plus as far as im concerned. I my greatest pleasure is the same as yours, to HEAL; like you i love to throw heals to players i pass. I must say i have always recieved tells telling me thanks. these people dont know me and thats fine, i just like to help. im going for master pistoleer however, so i may be effective in battle (PvE mostly but i do like PvP just not very good at it). i just wanted to let you know that there are more people out there like yourself.

good healing

THIS IS GREAT!!

i am SO happy to see all the responces from players who are medics by choise NOT Zergs (Zerg = suicide bomber).

i am working on an alt for my main character on Starsider with a template i have not tried before. Combat Medic / Carbineer. to give you some idea of how hard it is for me to level in combat vs. medic i went from 2/1/2/0 in medic to 3/2/4/2 in medic at Fort Tusken!! i went there to level in carbines LOL!!

i know Carbineer is broken at the moment, but i have been reading the Carbineer forum a lot as of late and i am reading all good things about Publish 7 (live on Test Center now) they have fixed A LOT of the problems the class was having, and now it really is what it was supposed to be in the first place... the 'crowd control' class. lots of powerful AoE attacks (even one that both bleeds AND changes posture at the same time). so the class will get BACK its ability to Dizzy and then Posture Change (NOT Knock Down but Posture Change which as you may know can result in a KD to a dizzied opponent) and the other AoEs are working as well.

i like the nearly perfect combination of speed and power you get from a good carbine right off the bat, no waiting to level hight up into the profession. even the Nym's carbine will give you a 100+ base and 200+ max damage weapon. not great, but you DO NOT HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED to use it. i used one to get to Carbines IV in two days of play rather than start with a CDEF, then a DH17, then a Short DH17 and so on, and so on

at any rate, i now have a combat class / weapon that helps me defend myself as i go about my work. i think that using CM to heal and the newly fixed Carbineer for self defence will make PvE great fun!!

I have been CM since Last August, it has been my only main class, and I have been herding the resources like a crack fiend. Enough said?
