Thread: PvP tactic or griefing, opinions wanted...
I would like to know everyone's opinions on keeping a person "incapped" during PvP vs. DeathBlow.
I am asking on this board, because I am a Master Combat Medic, and also because I know that there are at least a few MCM's, that consider this a "tactic" and not griefing, (ie: using poison and disease to incap a person but never giving them the DB, or even waiting until after they have been incapped twice before DB).
I do know this can and has been done by nearlyany profession, however it just seems (from what I have witnessed anyway)more common with CM.
Personally, I consider this "griefing", plain and simple. When I am involved in PvP, I want the "kill" and to make faction points ( or regain what I lost from getting killed myself...lol)
I don't want to stand on top of some one and keep them down until the 3 strikes and you are out gets them, or even wait for them to be incapped twice before I DB. The incapped twice thing just seems really pointless and a total waste of time. While the 3 strikes and your out thing is even more pointless (in my opinion). I might as well not even be declared and go do something else, instead of wasting my time doing that, or am I just missing something here?
I can understand getting tired of the "clone" wars, with RTEF (before it was removed) and even still with the group TEF, working nearly identical to RTEF. But I just don't see how it should be OK, or a "tactic" to stop griefing (RTEF & Group TEF) with another form of griefing (keep incaped, no DB). When I get tired of the clone wars, I just go someplace else or log out for a bit and come back later(or go do something else in RL that needs attention). How hard is that?
I have even seen people get all upset and yell at others for Death Blowing, something I believe to be totally uncalled for. ....Hello??? Isn't that the point, to kill / deathblowthe bad guys (or other side)??? Or again, am I just missing something?
I guess I just want to know how all of you feel about this. Not that it matters much, because I still will not do itsince I like andwant to DB and get points, even if that person keeps coming back at me over and over, hey more pts for me!!!
After all this is my $15 bucks a month and my time to play, I do it the way I like to andwhat is fun for me. I guess if griefing is fun for you (or those that do it) then go right ahead, but why yell at others for not wanting to do it your way?
At least after hearing your thoughts I will know if I am the stupid one for feeling the way I do, or if those that I think are "griefing" actually are.
Flame me if you want, it wont kill me. But to everyone that gives an honest and constructive answer, either for or against this, I appreciate your time and thank you in advance!
Altho i very very rarly db someone on the first incap. Especially if i meet someone out away from town, and i've taken them down with poison, i usually just leave and say something like "have fun with that". But thats me, i pvp to piss the enemy off as much as possible. I'm not gonna kick your ass and then shake your hand, sorry.
As is theres no risk in pvp, gotta do something to keep it fresh. I like to be enemies with the enemy, not friends.

I've got some RL friends as well as game friends and we kill each other as often as we can.
Love is war.
Keeping someone incapped or a group of people incapped is a legitimate tactic with a variety of purposes.

Thanks for the replies! I also posted this in the SWG discussion to get a broader range of opinions, other than just fellow CM's. I have gotten some great replies there too, along with somewonderful examples, and I understand this practice much better now.
I still think I would rather DB, but I can at least see the point of not doing it now, and how that may be necessary in some situations.
Thanks again! ![]()
You have no idea how many times I heard "don't kill him, he's diseased" and then the same people who said it continued to stand over the body and incap the victim 3 times thinking that since they didn't death blow, they did the right thing.
The other thing is. If someone is incapped. they're out of the fight for a while . If they're dead, they're cloning and will have tef on you (if you didn't somehow manage to wipe out the entire group in one swoop)
In my opinion, its griefing UNLESS, you're waiting til all are incapped (group TEF), to deathblow all simotaneously. That's the only way I don't see it as griefing. I understand people see it as griefing reguardless, I have a few words for them. That's my 2cr on the whole matter.

By accident I poisoned 20 in AH the other day and found something interesting after the hornets nest opened fire. (Only targeted 3 overts but they were grouped with non for Bestine raid). I proceeded to spend the next 2 hours in the AH cantina while the group that I posioned incapped, got up, incapped again - over and over again. After the fifth time is occured to me that the incap timer will reset as the poison cycles and a cm could really wreak havoc if they came up with the right recipe for duration and strength...
or it could have been a bug.
Fun though. I did heal those that were covert.
theres a grace period timer with any dots when you incap and get back up. all dots become suspended for i believe 5 minutes until they start functioning again. thats why they were doing the flop. So if you get hit by a flamethrower, run to water when you get back up. the clock is ticking.
Kleid,
I wouldn't worry about what term they throw on it....'tactic' has become a rather amorphous title used both correctly and increasingly incorrectly in futile attempts to legitimize what they doing. I've seenpeople use 'tactics' to refer to hiding withinlairs (fixed now). Heck on Tempest we have one idiot trying to refer to the 3 AT-STs he has do all his fighting as'droids' to legitimize his position.
You will see a number of opiinions on this, and I am largely of the same as the original poster. Even in the light of RTEF death, I will only let someone sit there long enough to cure states on my team, and then they're DBd.
This issue comes down to one of whether 'sidelining' is a tactic/goal of our class, or whether it is the unintended consequence of game mechanics. It is only my opinion, but I pretty firmly believe that sidelining (via wounds, incap, dot, whatever) is not the purveyance of our class or any class, but should be implemented via game mechanics. Yes while effective deterrents to clone wars are still trying to form, some may include this as a situational benefit..
But I have a hard time reconciling arguments that this is part of our, or any classes', vision.

I think it is griefing one way or the other. I do partake in it though, it sure does make a rebel mad when you throw a weak mind poison on them and they cant die, they just keep getting incapped. I do it to piss ppl off, mainly becaus they like to send tells to me threatening me or calling me names. But if you arre nice to me and makesure you say "I got owned by valenia" ill DB them then.
did that hurt rebel, oops lemme poison it and make it all better
Well considering the devs limited incapps to 3 before you die, to prevent griefing, your answer is that incapping 3 times is NOT griefing. Simple logic people. ![]()
I've camped groups of people for upwards of 20 minutes. This was in guildwars tho, where deathblowing the enemy means now they come back fully healed.
In faction pvp i've incap camped someone long enough for my tef to expire on them (they were covert using the revenge tef to attack me).
The three incaps till slain only applies to pve.
