Time for a new discussion topic. This time I'd like to discuss Terrain Negotiation.


When we first received it, it wasn't something most CMs were clamoring for. We wanted fixes(like getting the ARC to actually load) but were given Terrain Negotiation to aid us in getting around the battlefield.


Some people feel that Terrain Negotiation is something that we should never have been given and that we don't deserve it. Some feel that, since we spend so many points on a profession which is mainly a support role, that we deserve the TN we have.


So what say you? What do you think about CMs having Terrain Negotiation?


Should we have it?

Should we have less of it?

Should it be removed?

Is it useful to you? If so, how?

well i believe it isnt really a big deal. i mean its just a mod that comes with a prof, and who is aginst running up hills 50 times faster2 poision/diseaseyour target faster? if u were going 2 REPLACE it then what would u put in its place?

Currently, you can have the TN of a ranger by mastering CM/Scout which angered some in the ranger community, until you consider how useless a CM/scout is in practice. I do not feel this is abused by anyone; master combat medic has 50 TN, and has the maximum bonus to running on hills and no bonus to crawling.


TN is the only thing we have that makes us more "medic-y" than doctors. I would trade it for a longer drag range, state heals, dead horse to beat on etc. As it stands I enjoy it, I feel it fits, and I don't feel it hurts other professions.


Lastly, it has indeed come in handy many, many times when running away or running to someone.

o well if u were looking 4 replacements then i would have 2 agree with a ronger range, and maybe a little less complicated schematics (sry kinda off topic). but people choose 2 do scout/ranger because they want 2 and y would they be bothered by another prof "stealing" a bonus that they should only get? i mean they can go CM instead of ranger so they can protect themselves. its all in personal choice and if someone thinks its "unfair" then they can go back home and cry.

I personally have found it of little to no use. The only time it comes in handy is when my swoop gets leveled by and Elder or a GDK and I have to hoof it.

I never thought we should have received it. It's one of scout/rangers profession-defining abilities, and if it's really important enough to get, we should have to dabble in scout.


It's the equivalent of givingarea meds to doctors

I think we should have it, but to a lesser degree. A Master CM, Master Scout template has more TN than a Master Ranger (by +10). That is not right.

Perhaps give +10 to TN at 0004 CM, and another +20 at Master...an extra incentive to actually get the Master CM box.

Giving +50 TN to CMs is a bit excessive. 20 or 30 would be good--just enough to take the edge off those hills. I do like having it--since CMs belong on the battlefield, the ability to negotiate battlefield terrain is necessary.

It comes in handy, and I like it.


The whatchamacallit guilde you buy in the store and some sort of SOE documentation said we had it before we actually got it.


I like the idea of being able to get around in a hurry on a battlefield....kinda is the only thing that fits in with my personal thought of a combat medic right now.

I think we should have it and I do not believe it should be removed. In some ways it can be used as a defensive mod against melee proffessions. Being able to kite a tka by simply going up a hill is a great advantage to a medic. Instead of wasting time taking out those that pursue us, we can simply outrun them, giving us more time to healthe injured.

The TN you get with CM has saved my life on countless occasions. I'd say it is an essential advantage that fits well with the role of the class.


Whether we have too much or not enough I wouldnt know though.

We spend as many pts for this profession as any other, more than the vast majority. We have been hit with as many nerfs as any profession, almost all of our carfting capabilities were given to docs instead. We absolutely deserve this.

I think we absolutely should have it. I think that in terms of the battlefield healer facet of our profession that it makes sense that a combat medic would be skilled at getting to our patients quickly. In RL the ability to pick your way across terrain with great agility to reach and stablilize your man is critical. I think that it makes sense in the context of our roles within the game in that CMs are often coupled with other professions where the addition of that terrain negotiation is a great benefit.

Should we have less of it?

Absolutely not. Scouts should have equal amount, Rangers more than double the amount, but we should absolutely not be nerfed in this way. Its not like we dont get enough taken away already.

Is it useful to you? If so, how?

As a CM rifleman I am a ranged profession who plays at the maximum distance I can and kite aggroing mobs. The terrain negotiation is an immense benefit to me, and since I have little to no melee defense removing the ability would be devestating to me.

having started as a scout/range I can't live without TN. I do not think CM needs +50 though. I think +20 at CM XXX4 would be good. It is enough that you don't crawl up hills, but it shouldn't offend the scouts and rangers.

we need to survive on the battlefield. nowadays i am using running and burstrun to survive, but it would be more realistic if i had other defenses to survive instead of running. (running should belong to scouts and rangers)



maybe30 TN would be enough.

but give us +20 defense vs dizzy, or defense vs knockdown, or +10 melee defense instead!
