GCW healing restrictions apply to all heals and buffs. You cannot heal or buff a person that is more open to attack than yourself:

a) civilians can only heal other civilians
b) combatants can only heal same-faction combatant or civilians
c) special forces can heal same-faction special forces, same-faction combatants and civilians

Players "on leave" count as civilians.

So you want to make sure that all players in your hunting group are either civilians, "on leave", or have the same faction as you should you be a combatant, otherwise you will not be able to heal some group members.

keep getting this message when trying to heal or buff a friend. we've both relogged..... HALP HALP!?

EDIT: can buff everyone else in sight... just not him.

EDIT: never mind. it's the stupid GCW crap that puts you on leave when you die.

Hi all

I am trying to get my Novice CM box atm having ground out the x4xx medic box solo. I was in a group last night yet when I tried to heal group members I just got the invalid target message.

Can anyone tell me what I might have been doing wrong?

Might be faction rules.

They may have been rebel or imperial combatant. What faction are you if any?

We were all same faction. I think I was on leave though, ahem, need to be same standing then?

Tbh, I thought it gave a warning saying your target is combatant do you wish to proceed with the heal. And then you go combatant too? Maybe that was pre-cu, or I could just have dreamt it,

It's bugged at the moment, the only one that works and allows you to flag is /drag from medic.

Tonight I was in the village over on Dath trying to complete this phase when I was invited into a group of 4 people. Everything was going great during the combat session and I was healing like a MD should except when I tried to heal one of my group members I got the message "Invalid Target". I couldn't believe it that I couldn't heal him and had to watch him go down 3 times and get slain. After combat was over I asked why wasn't I able to heal him and I was told it was because he was a combatant and that I wouldn't even be able to res him.. Now I know what a combatant is and I know why non-combatants can't heal but I think that not being able to heal group mates is bull****! If you are in a group and your a healer of any kind you should be able to heal any one no matter whether they are a combatant or not after all that is your job as a healer isn't it? It really sucked having a group member that I couldn't help during combat, it sucked having to watch a group member die and not be able to res him. Any healer should be able to heal anyone in their group without being stopped no matter what. And the real kicker of the deal was I wasn't even given the choice to heal or not. This "Invalid Target" stuff is for the birds.

This is basedI believe on the fact that if you heal a combatent of your faction you get a TEF, since this is impossible if you are not of the same faction the system cant cope.. or something

it still isn't right if you're grouped. i see the big picture why, but if you're in a multifactional guild that kinda limits who you can run w/..

The idea of a healer being able to heal anyone without thier being at risk is known as a "blue healing". The issue is that if the healer is on leave while the patient is combatant or SP then the healer is no longer at risk. This results in numerous exploits.

For example, you could have a doc in a pvp group and they could just run around healing folks and there would be nothing the apposing pvp group could do about it. Another example would be to have 7 healers focused on one combatant would could then take down a base by himself.

A better solution, one that I have already asked for, is to allow a healer to become the same faction level as the patient. There have been times in the CU where a healer could attempt to heal someone and then have a dialog box come up asking of the healer would like to become combatant so that they could heal that patient.

Even this method is not perfect as it would not help folks who are of different factions in the same group.

It does, however, prevent Blue Healing.

They need to fix it so that healing actions work the same way as /drag and give you the option to flag on someone. It doesn't help neutrals, but "on leave" can flag to combatant and combatant can flag to SF.

Combat medics currently can't do that as they don't have /drag unless they invest some skill points in it.

But it does NOTHING for neutrals. There are people in this game that do not take part in the
Galactic cavil War.

I have a suggestion and would like your opinion on it specifically Morrow.I propose a timer that prevents a doctor from a different faction (including neutrals) from healing a player that has taken part in GCW combat within a five minute period.

This would prevent 'blue healing' as I (as a neutral) could not go around healing peopleif they are taking part in a GCW battle but if someone was in a GCW battle 15 minutes before and are just sitting a starport I can at least heal their wounds. This would also allow any doc to heal any player in a regular non GCW groupbecause by the time the group gets together and is actually put in a position to get hurt the 5 minute period will have past. The only people that would be able to heal combatants during a GCW battle would be the Factioned docs and those docs would still be at risk.

I think this solvesboth problems (blue healing and healing combatants in regular groups) and does not create any new ones except perhaps a wait of 5 minutes if they have just been in a battle. This wait is not longer then the current wait to go on-leave anyway so there is not a new problem created there.

P.S. This method also prevents annoying message boxes popping up to ask if you want to perform the action or not.
