Thread: Combat Medic Diseases...Moral Delima
Disease packs are currently used through bugs in the code to just grief people. Their main effectiveness will be in large scale PVP, and when the Area Disease is fixed. For these reasons, I thought at first that I would just refuse to sell disease packs to Rebels (for I'm an imperial).
Then, I thought on that for a bit. Suppling disease packs to any combat medic at this time could be assisting someone in griefing/exploiting a bug in the code. I finally came to the realization that I would not contribute to other players griefing anyone. If another CM wants a disease pack, they can make it themselves. This unfortunatly has made me take a lot of heat from customers, and other would be board trolls. My question is this:
Do you think I have done the right thing by not supplying the masses with disease packs?
or
Do you think I should sell them no matter what they are being used for?
I would say follow your morals. I had a friend other day ask me if I wanted a rebel disk set even though I am rebel and did my imperial set. I asked him if he was going to do it and he said he would. I personally wouldn't and he asked why and I told him that the disks per say are supposed to hold important information and whoever turns in more.....rebel or imp would have a impact on the GCW. I personally won't help contribute to aiding the enemy in any set circumstances.
First off Spinal, I really do think you should ban them from everybody if you feel that contributing to griefing is bad. It would be the same as grouping with people who do this, even if you do not, you are associated with them.
As for the disk sets, if you are a rebel, and turn in rebel disks, you get credit for saving important information, and vice versa.
Yes, you must indeed follow your own compass, whichever way it directs you. I have my own views (I won't sell them, 99% of the time I won't use them and will never use an AOE disease when we can get them), but others have different feelings and have as much right to their viewpoints as I have to mine.

I have used them before. I've even diseased a corpse or two in my time. There is just something basically wrong with helping other people grief players. I'm not one to tell anyone how to enjoy their gaming experience...and if griefing others is your way of having fun...then by all means go for it. I know I've logged in before and just felt like being a real arse to people.
I just wouldn't feel right selling griefing tools to other people for profit. Currently, I've offered to sell them by special order...and only to players that I know don't use them in the wrong ways. I would personally like to see disease taken out of the game, and add some ammount of wound damage to poisons. I don't think that a pack with the only purpose of causing wounds is effective in PVP or PVE. I'd rather see them as Chemical Warfare packs, and not poison and disease...who knows though.

Kijan,
We often see things differently, and this time, I still see things differntly than you do.
Being the high moral person that you are, if you choose not to sell them to anyone but your trusted friend who buys themand willnever use them to grieve others is very righteous. Which means, I better not see any of your TR buddies running around dropping disease on dead corpse. Yes, you're guilty by simple association, that's how the cookie crumbles.
Next, I will use all assets available to me to nulify, eliminate, incappacitate and eradicate my opposition. If that means that I have to drop a disease or poison on their dead corpse, so be it.
But on a different prespective, I've been on the both end of coin, and to be quite honest, people take this far too seriously. This is only a game, I just laugh about it, and forget it the next day. Other people will carry this on and on and on. Perfect example would be Ganner. He would not let it die. It is so funny to see him go out of his wayto grief me. He dropped his master pistoleer to pick up Combat Medic so he can poison and disease those he hates. He has issues.
However, back to my original point. If you don't sell them, people will get them through other means. If you want to sell it to Imps only, I'm sure there will be a merchant that carters to Rebels. If there is a will, there is a way.
I don't use them as a regular means for combat. But I carry a large stack of them in my backpack for people that tend to like to try and grief me and my guild. Other TR combat medics I have no control over. In this game, life, etc...you have control over your actions and your actions alone. I myself will not make the reputation of myself as a greifer. However, turnabout is fair play. If anyone wants to try to grief me with poisons or diseases, believe me...I can, and will do the same in return.
I've thought about not selling my wares to anyone, and just making items for myself and TR. Its a little late to go that route though seeing as I've already spent 1.4 million credits on resources/factories/etc.
I use poison in combat, but I also keep some disease on me in case someone is griefing me or my PA mates. If you are camping the starport and kill someone while they are loading, you will get a disease. If you refuse to DB someone until their ham bars are completely black, you will get a disease.
They are really worthless for PVE. It makes me wonder why they were created? If people think they are not being used as intended, what is the point of disease? Anyone have any ideas?
Bah... Grief the griefers... if deseasing is griefing then what is using TEF to come back 300 times to cause fire damage to people? Sometimes "griefing" is the only way to get people out of the battle. I am not for blacking out everybodys bars... but if i drop somebody i am verry likely to drop a focus desease on them till it ticks enough where they cant wear any armour... the DB them. If they come back... well then they are asking for a blackout.

I agree, I only get into a fight if they clone a few times, then I use poison. If this does not deter them, then I apply poison and let it sit. At this point they probably do not stay around. If they want to leave fine, if they want to stay, fine. I have lots more for these people. If you clone more than 5 times, without leaving/accepting the loss graciously, you are gonna be made weak so as to not cause trouble. I think it's an easy philosophy. Only use disease as a last resort, in One on One PvP. Now when Area Disease C's come online, along with large scale PvP........who knows. Should be fun.
Diseases are meant to be used in combat. They are meant to take down the maximum capability of a player while poison is bringing down their pool. There are those who want to grief players. They will get caught in time and the bugs with applying disease to a corpse should be fixed at some point.
I do not sell anything I make, I need it myself. If I were you just don't sell the diseases and/or poisons and sell only the things that will heal. That way you don't feel so bad about it.
I for one have no problem in using what the profession is given and use it in combat(When it's not resisted..), because I'm not one of the exploiters.
Others just need to understand that Diseases and Poisons are our tools for Combat just as Ranged Stims and AOE Stims are for Medic.
well, I agree that you have to come up with your own setof beliefs kijan, but that doesnt mean i have to agree with them. if I were in your position (starting up a Cm store) i'd sell diseases for the simple fact that i believe them necessary in the current state of pvp when fighting anywhere closer than 1.5km to a clone facility. once revenge TEF is removed from the game i'll probably stop using them except for those people i hate with a passion.
the reasoning is simple. the only way to end a fight currently is either by sheer power/force of numbers, OR, to wound someone so badly that they can no longer fight effectively. this is ESPECIALLY true for combat medics whom have one of the lowest DPS of any widely played pvp class. we're hard pressed enough to get more kills than deaths in the current state of pvp as it is, so ending a fight via disease is really the only way to claim victory... otherwise, people just cone with the revenge TEF and slay you before you can blink off the 2-3 ticks necessary for your poison to kill them. at least if i force someone to sit in the med center or cantina until their tef wears off I can claim some form of victory. no other way to do it.
i'm frankly shocked that of all people and being a member of TR that you refuse to sell them to anyone (especially shocked that you wont sell to guildies). it doesnt fit your guild's style and self proposed goals to hold back from using any non-exploit... ![]()
