Thread: Top 10 Questions

I have been asked to compile a list of top 10 questions that the profession would like to have answers to from the dev team. This is our opportunity to ask questions to find out things we wish we knew to get an insight on how the devs veiw the profession and other ideas.


What we don't need are flames, rants, demands for timetables on changes, and wishlists (we have other places for that kind of stuff) this is a fact finding mission that we have been allowed to embark on we only get 10 so lets choose wisely.


Example of a good question: (IMO)


1. Why is it not possible to rename our vendors after they are placed since it is possible to rename some items in the game (backpacks, structures, etc)


Example of bad questions: (IMO)


1. Why do the devs hate merchants.

2. When are you going to fix this broken stuff

  1. Why is it not possible to rename our vendors after they are placed since it is possible to rename some items in the game (backpacks, structures, etc)?

  2. Why do we have incredible high lag with vendors on Dantooine (upto 10 minutes or more for on action)?

  3. Why can we not add serveral items up for sale at once with the same price?

  4. Why are there so many categories with no items?

  5. Why are there items that do not have a category (such a droid batteries)?

1. Why can we not move vendors (like furniture) before and after initialization? (dynamic shop environment.)


2. Why is Ad Barking only possible with NPC vendors? (vendor variety without loss of functionality)


3. Why are Protocol Droid vendors always/only pink? (vendor variety)


4. Why are vendor/bazaar pages sorted only on a per-page basis, rather than sorting across multiple pages? (ease of use)


5. Why must Item Details (descriptions) be re-entered when moving an item from Stockroom back into sales? (ease of use)


6. Why is the item/vendor database so large/troublesome? (ability for players to understand the problems and limitations and to suggest constructive solutions)


7. Why was item hex-color coding removed from crafted items, but kept for houses, backpacks, etc.? (individualization, ease of use, ability to color-classify items)


8. Is there a reason why Master Merchants don't have a +1 vendor (total of 7 instead of 6)? (value of Mastery)


9. How do the developers envision a successful large-volume crafter / Merchant's business to run (i.e how many resources in their inventory, how many sub-component crates waiting to be assembled, how many finished items on vendors, how many harvesters, how many factories, etc.)? Or perhaps more simply, what are *actual* players doing that was not expected or anticipated, that might be placing undue burdens on the system?


10. How should money in the crafting/merchant community flow back to non-crafters? That is, how do they keep the economy going in a circle rather than to each other?

OKie, here are some off the top of my head:



  • Why can't we have the Hex codes back? (even if they only show in vendor/bazaar)

  • Why can't people search for a string in the bazaar or vendor?

  • Why can't items be properly categorized? (most items that are NON-Misc end up in Misc Items these days)

  • Why can't crates be properly categorized? (they should be in the category of the item type they are)

  • When can we have longer Ad barking scripts? (I would love to have a sales patter/ informational spiel for all my vendors)

  • When can we double/triple/quadruple categorize out vendors, so that they show up in multiple places in the planetary listings?

  • When can we have item delivery to other planets or to specific individuals (great tie into a Universal Parcel Service droid idea)?

  • Why can't we /move our NPC vendors?

  • Why are filtering criteria only applied to a single page at a time? (when I alphabatize, it was ALL A or Z items on page one, not the items from page one alphabatized)

  • Why aren't number of charges and number of units separate columns in the vendor/bazaar? (most common customer complaint)

More questions:



  • Why can't we resell items that have gone to stockroom for their original price with the original description? (you at least track the original price, since it lists under 'Details')

  • Why are advanced worlds so slow with item loading? (literally 2-5 mins between item adds, try that with 100's of items per day!)

  • Why can't we bulk resell or bulk sell a series of items at the same price with the same description? (one click load/ one click "sell at" scheme)

  • Why are vendor commissions so hard to execute? (since they haven't been coded yet)

  • Why can't we issue discounts for guilds, factions or individual users for our vendors?

  • Why are offers taxed at the 'sales' rate to vendors?

  • Why ARE vendors allowed to exist after someone has dropped merchant skills?

  • Why can't players in general and merchants in specific rename items after they have been created? (as long as the details screen tells you what the original item was, the risk for fraud is low, especially if it is a ban-able offense)

  • Why don't ALL item stats show in the details screen? (makes some items hard to sell since people have to take us 'on our honor', and might get burned/disappointed. Droids in particular are a pain this way)

  • Why can't merchants resell pets and such as well as droidsfor CH and BE and DE after being originally 'tamed'?

This is the one question I would love answered.



  1. Was it intended that vendors would stay put and operation after the associated skill was surrendered? If so, was this because no solution could be found at the time for incapping the vendors without item loss. If not, was it intended as being a "placement skill only", purposelybeing flexible so you can free up skill points after the vendor was placed?

Ok, maybe one more.



  1. Why cant youadd more servers/hardware to support the database load, instead ofimposing limits toour shelf space?

1. Can any of the suggestions in any of the Master Marksman threads be worked into the combat pass?


2. Will the damage types of the weapons ever be reverted?


3. Do they still intend to use generational weapons?


4. What can be done about the Wookiee Bowcaster? (It would be amazing if this were a generational weapon IMO)


There's my 4. I'll let you know if I can think of anything else...

Anyway, I will just add one, had another that i forgot lol



- Can we expect to get a better supplier/reseller interface soon so that suppliers don't have to totally rely on merchants to get their money?

  1. Hiring seems like a pointless skill because besides choosing species, one can't furthercustomize vendors. Will we be able to further customize vendors in the future, or allow image designers to do it?

  2. Is it possible to show all items on one page, or expand the limit from 100 to 200 in order to mitigate the "next page" issues?

  3. Many categories on vendors and on items are not functioning correctly. For example: factory crates, regardless of what is in them, always categorize under crates. Similarly, under clothing, there are non-functioning categories: wookiee wear, skirts, and capes. There are no capes in the game, skirts categorize under "misc clothing" and wookiee wear categorizes under "shirts, headwear, handwear, misc clothing, and robes."

  4. Is the ability to retain vendors after dropping merchanting skill an intended design or a bug?

  5. Regardless of the answer to 4, what response can we expect to this issue of non-merchants retaining their vendors, and in what timeframe?

  6. When is Merchant due for a "revamp" as just happened with chef?

  7. What is the timeframe for the "small fixes" such as preventing vendors from rotating while ad barking?

  8. What is causing the extreme vendor lag and is that being addressed?

  9. Because it is possible now to delist items in groups and retrieve in groups, would it be difficult to implement a system in which items from the stockroom can be selected in groups and all listed for the same price at once.

  10. How is the problem of items disappearing off vendors (i.e. this item no longer exists and you are being reimbursed for its value) being addressed?

Off the top of my head real quick:


What does /cover do for marksman?


Why is the master marksman box so vacant?


Why do carbine specials have cool state effects but rifle and pistol don't?

For most things, we don't especially need or want lower-level technical answers, but here, I think it'd be warranted and mutually useful. Many of us with some technical database knowledge are frankly baffled that an Oracle database system with requirements (insofar as we're able to divine them) that seem fairly modest compared to many everyday business applications seems to be so horrendously troublesome.
