Thread: Where's the combat in the medic?

I've been looking at the CM tree, and it seems like once your init, all the branches add only to the medic portion of your character. As costly as CM is point wise, I was looking for a little more Combat in my Medic. At least for defense purposes, so I'm not healing myself more then my party

I haven't experimented with it at all so perhaps I'm wrong, any opinions from those in the tree?

The combat part lies in the disease and poison packs- neither medics or docs get any straight-up offensive tools.

Other than that, you can argue that ranged and ae stims make it easier to heal in chaotic combat situations.

It's also because you are required to master the ranged weapon tree in marksman. Not that I disagree with you. I would like to see combat skills in the combat medic profession.

Umm, the combat is in the Marksman tree. You have enough Points to go Combat Medic AND Pistoleer/Carbineer/Rifleman. Any of those three. So use the points your given to their fullest. If you dump all your extra points into the Doctor tree... well then no, combat isgoing to be a bit difficultfor you. But then, your not a Combat Medic, your a Doctor.

CM get some great support special moves in the ranged support line...

Man, if you don't like the Area heals, area poisons and what-not, then just drop out of the Combat Medic class and take doctor

I don't recall saying I didn't like the area heals and such, I was just trying to determine where the combat portion of my combat medic came from.

As I said, I am not a CM currently, and I was just looking for some input on the class.

the combat is there..just very weakly there..i assume the devs mean that only CMs have a medical based ability to cause harm hence to combat...

so the dots would be combat and the various skills you acquire training ranged support igve u some support specials that help combat...

so the combat is there just very weak

At the moment combat in CM comes from poisons, your weapon spec (whihc is requirement) and form the fact that you heal better in combat then doctor.

Heal better in combat than a Doctor? Careful how you say that, only at master level or very near it would I put a CM over a Doc in combat. Sure ranged heals are a HUGE help, but they are weak compared to the meds a doc gets at equal levels of training.

But as I have stated before, the best Combat Medic is one that has about 3/4 of the CM tree and 1/2 of the Doc tree, and the rest in a weapon of choice. Unfortunately, since there is a ridiculous time delay on heals, rather than them being slotted in the queue like every other action, fighting and healing at the same time is dangerous if not impossible. So your "combat" is not only defined by, but is also reduced to the use of diseases and poisons.

You will likely be a decent weapons guy just by working your way through the ranged support tree. That said, you can be a Combat Medic without any traditional weapons skills (you can abandon them to free up skill points for more Doctor or Squad Leader or Creature Handler or whatever).

The "combat" comes from being good in combat. You theoretically can deal damage with the poisons. The ranged heals and area heals are also unique to combat medic and much more useful in combat. It's not really an offensive class, as a combat support class much like Squad Leader, though people in both professionwill tend to keep their offensive skills as well.

My ranged Cs (low quality as I am not master yet) heal for 800 easily, which is enough to get most people up to almost full health/action AND I don't have to run stuck to one person to heal cause they are ranged.

Doctors are perfect for getting people back to battle / keeping that one tank/pet alive, but in big group combat with people spread out I think CM bets Doctor hands down.
