Thread: I'm thinking of going true CM.

I've played the game since the beginning, and my first profession choice was being a CM. The main reason was for healing my friends while in combat, but I left it when I couldn't rez them, heh.Now that the the hologrinding is coming to an end, I want to go back, but I don't plan on making poisons, just stims. My question is, in the coming months, will CMs be useful as healers or will the jedi take over as healers with all these group healing powers i keep reading about.

It is far too early to ask that. Aside from the difficulties of unlocking force sensitivity, we there are nuances about a profession, an ability, and synergies and interactions with othersthat just can't be determined without weeks of "real play time on live servers".

I would say ask that question again in 2 months. In the mean time, try out combat medic healing and see how it plays. The beauty of the SP system is that you can play with combinations, and if you don't like it (or something better comes along later), you can change it.

I would completely disagree with the above poster, KnightHawk240, regarding the desire to be a ranged healer only. With current combat lag issues that are inherent in PvP, i.e. as a doctor you attempt to heal a friendly who is within 5 meters of you, while moving, you constantly get the "this target is too far away to heal" or however it goes. This is extremely frustrating as most PvPers want to stay on the move to be harder to hit.

So I'd say that the ability to throw a 900 healing power heal at 64 meters not to mention area stimpacks which can heal an entire clustered group within 15-20 meters is one heck of a good reason to go Master Combat Medic. It's not just about the poisons/diseases. Of course, that's just my humble opinion.

As for Jedi Force Healing power, based on my Test Center2 testing and various other posts in the Jedi forums, I would say that it is vastly inferior to doctor or combat medic.

When do doc's/cm's even heal in pvp anymore? nothing to heal being 90% of the damage is the mind damage.

While it is true that mind pool is often targetted, many professions still utilize AOE attacks that are random HAM damage, i.e. Riflemen's Advanced Strafe and Flushing Volley. Or other combat professions using their best moves, Fencer's Scatter Shiak or TKM's Spitting Rawl and/or Unarmed Combo2. The list goes on and on. Not to mention many PvP encounters occur in player cities with bases, which spawn NPCs/AT-STs that do random HAM damage.

Wow...with 32m experimented packs, I could still only throw 52m. I would have to experiment completely into charge to even think about tossing a pack 64m, even at Master CM. :/ When the Devs "capped" ranged healing at 64m...they actually broke it worse than before. People can still throw poisons/diseases at 90m, but only heal at 50m now.

And actually if you just want to toss stims...AreaStimpackCs are probably the best way to go (with maybe one Ranged Stimpack D in case you get the "out of range" bug from AreaStims). No need for Master CM. Just go 4/4/0/4, and you'll be pretty much just as good as a Master CM at healing.

Welcome to the profession!

I did and it works VERY well. When in the Death Watch Bunker with a group of 20 whose buffs have run out my area stims are extremely valuable

Going to the DWB tonight....if our buffs wear out (3.5+hours) I will log the combat spam.

I personally read this "buffs wear out" to be "if somebody happens to die and is rezzed" (which happens frequently in DWB and Corvette... ). That's just me though.

Another note about this is that Combat Medics have the ability to heal mind damage.

Hehe dude you'd be suprised how long you can be in there when waiting for loot to drop or in our case waiting for the blasted 3rd NPC key holder to spawn (never did for some reason )
