Thread: Master CM/DOC w. no surveying?

I see a lot of you go master CM and master Doc and a lvl 4 ranged weapon skill like pistols and carbines, but how do you handle getting resources? Now, I realize you can buy them from other players but isn't that very expensive and unreliable? Money is easy enough though, so I guess that's not really an issue, but unless you know someone who is willing to get all those special resources for the advanced components for you it must be hard.

I am currently a Master Doc, novice pistoleer, and have some scouting ability as well, and I am strongly considering going master CM as well for when I start PvPing in earnest, and was thinking of using the 18 remaining points in Rifle or Pistol 1 and Novice Artisan so I can at least survey, even though the survey range will be a crappy 64m. Will not going to Pistol or Rifle 4 hurt me badly in PvP? I do plan on having 3 fully buffed dark troopers following me whereever I go once I go overt.

PA =)

prior to that though, i had to buy from the bazaar. and that sucked.

Or go wander around planets til i saw a gaggle of harvesters then drop one and hope it was the resource i was looking for.

I usually surrender the pistol skills pick up artisan with surveying 1. I use that for whatever time period then go back. I can bother one of my fellow guild members but atleast I have this option. Being maxed out in all medical skills its nice to see that im earning points for doing something when shooting the pistol again.

I've been living without it for a couple week or so now. This is the first resource change that I've gone through without it.

There are definately drawbacks to this setup. I'm feeling the pain around it here and there. I may go back and get it becuase I do spend most of my time doc/CM crafting.

We'll see.

yeah, a master doc/cm is very hard to play without a guild... however, with one, its one of the most rewarding professions IMO. so, join a guild and have them help solve your problems

My PA has assisted me with resource finding and with resources in general.

Without them, Doc/CM would be a nightmare.

WhyDoc/CM need marksman weapons branch ? They total suxx, at least pistoleer which i am familiar with. FWG5 - heat damage, all other too low damage. I have survey1 instead of it and it is way better than pistol4 for my char. Just find yourself a good CDEF and be happy

Like others, PAs have been a tremendous help for me, even though I'm due to give up surveying in about 3 days...

But I coudl shed some light on the my contingency plan for people:

1. I've cultivated relationships with people on most of the starter planets who know my needs. I pay between 2-10k per waypoint (if at least one medium can be placed, depending upon quality and concentration. My formula for payment is ((.66*OQ+.33*PE)*%Concentration)/8. I probably now get 20 emails a day regarding shifts on different planets.

2. To any of you on Tempest: Mehtee is god. www.rothwellhome.org/MehteeResourceLocationService.pdf The guy posts in PDF format every resource and all stats for Naboo daily. You pay 2k for a wp meeting your specs. I've tried several times to seed a guild that would do this on all starting planets on our server. No luck yet. I pay Mehtee a weekly subscription just so he hopefully won't stop.

3. Doc/CM wp co-op. I have about a half dozen other docs and CMs that i aggregate intel with. This expanded network makes it a lot easier.

4. For hides/meat, I rely on younger players. When insect meat was 980/912 on Naboo recently, I stood in Moenia, shouted 5 mintues and got a party of 15 young scouts. I offered free buffs, healing, rezzing, and offered to buy all meat at 6c/1u (wella bove market price). Also had a master ranger friend help find prey, but the only rul was that everyone harvested meat, and I got it all. Sucked up a night but it was well worth it.

5. Intel on the bazaar. If i know something's out...look on the bazaar (galaxy wide) and find it. Click details and find posted city. Most don't think to relocate planet/city to post their scoop. I travel to that city and hire a surveyor to find it.

I actually have a collection of harvesters. Whenever I need an item, I drop them by my house and set them harvesting. It helps that I have an Artisan friend who can tell me what's good. If not, it just means a bit of sticking around by the harvester while it grabs one unit of something, then I check it to see if it's good.

I use a variety of methods but my best is having an artisan friend send me waypoints for good concentrations of Dantooinan Berry Fruit, HQ Fungus, HQ Liquid Petro Fuel, Talusian Water Vapor, Lokian Wild Wheat, and Tatooinian Fiberplast. I farm those constantly and then trade out with other Docs/CMs for what I need. I once got traded 10k of 800 OQ Dolovite Iron for 1000 ABECs. One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

goto swgmedics.com and check there for rescource needs for docs/cms. folks post current resources and numbers on it. might give you a name to contact in game for a waypoint on your server.

I gave up my Artisan awhile ago and recently gave up my Scouting because of the positive things on Test Center about TN..

Anyhow, you'll often find Resource Shops on various planets on your server. I've made a few deals here and there with various miner type people and buy exclusively from them. They get a dedicated customer, free buffs when I see themand free advertising from me and I get a (usually) reduced rate from them. It would also be wise to check out your server specific message board and ask around, I know the Radiant board frequently has ppl advertising their resources. Only rarely do I need to rely on the Bazaar and hope not to get raped..--The best advice here is when you buy, buy ALOT. I never buy anything less than what I can make 100 parts from in my factory (ie 1600+ Dolovite iron).

I have also plopped a harvestor or 2 down when I saw a whole town of them. I got incredibly lucky quite a few times (my favorite was a very high qua Oat patch that was 92%--it lasted 4 weeks!)

MeatsI'm doing pretty good with since I have 2 RL friends who are almost master BHs--I just tell them what I need and they go kill it for me.

Uh, so WE don't want it, and YOU don't want it in for PvP--then why is it still there??
