For those times when you don't have a friend handy to survey for you,purchase several cheap personal mineral extractors (500-1000 creds).

When you see a lot of flora harvs, drop one and get a sample of a few things with a decent concentration there. Just destroy the harv without paying the 1500 maint to reclaim (since you can just buy new ones cheaper). Drop your medium or large floras if you see something you like.

Personal mineral extractor = poor man's survey tool.
