Thread: getting bio-weapons (ie: bio-pistol, carbines, rifles) will get us nerfed
I could not agree more. I am in the process of surrendering skills now, but it is the path I have chosen.

Bio- Weapon is a great idea. combat medic (we are considered a combat class by the devs) is the only combat class without a signature weapon. you say poision is our weapon i say alot of other classes get DoT's so poisions are not our weapon. A Cm should be able to survive off his class alone, not depend on another class to get anything done.
A CM kicks ass in pvp this is true but in pve we are gimped beyond beleive and if you dont think so try to go solo a jinda mission with only CM skills. Also this game SWG is not entirely about PVP infact PVP is in the minority.
If a Cm was to receive a weapon like a bio-gun, then a CM can have enough points left over to spend into survey which is needed.
Ive found its only the cm/master weaponskill that is mostly opposed to bio-weapon. You dont have to use it.
Its like this the weapon in my opinion will not have specials, but have craftable ammo that CM needs to craft inorder to use. It's ammo has the chance of adding a state effect, such as dizzy or blind. and do average damage, im not talking about the damage of a t21, or ft, or llc, im talking about damage of a d17 stubnose or a scout, d17pistol.
And may I saw again this game is not about PVP, this bio-gun is more for pve then pvp.

We are NOT considered a Combat class by the Devs. According to one of Q-3PO's post, the system designer in charge of combat, dan, is different than the one in charge of Combat Medics and Smugglers

I have soloed Pubam camps on Endor with only CM skills. The Pubam camps are alot like the Jinda camps, except they tend to spawn closer to the northern Smuggler Outpost as opposed to the southern outpost.
With creative tactics and positioning, I can do just fine in PvE with only CM skills. (No loot rights though)

I don't understand what you are asking for. You claim to only want a weapon that does as much damage as a DH17 subnose carbine, but you can already get that. If you Master CM and Master Doctor, you'll have 18 skill points left over. You can spend 15 points to get basic Artisan (for survey), and have 3 points remaining for any of the tier 1 marksmen weapons... including a DH17 carbine.
As for you wanting status change effects, that's what the range support line is for. All of us automatically get Warning Shot and Suppression Fire from the tier 3 and 4 range support boxes. As for not being able to consistently hit targets... well, that's what AIM is for.
"Bio- Weapon is a great idea. combat medic (we are considered a combat class by the devs)"
Combat medics are NOT I repeat NOT considered a combat class by the devs. Just because the word combat is in front of medic does not mean we are a combat class. Devs consider combat classes... rifleman, pistoleer, smugglar, carbineer, comando, BH, TK.... but Combat Medic or any of the medical professions are one of those classes.
Bio-weapon? Why? The combat Medic themselves are the bio weapon. You must remember this game isn't about ONE class. You are given more than enough points to put into more than one "skill" line. If you opt out of going for a weapon line that's your own choice. Creating a bio-weapon, while an interesting idea is going overboard, adding more headache and does not in any way fit into the combat medic the way it is. A Combat Medic is a support role. The poisons/diseases are to support other damages, heals are to support players. Don't get me wrong, bio weapon is a neat idea, but doesn't belong in the combat medic trees.
The devs have said we are a combat class. read that part about q and holo again!!!!!
If you have not noticed pikemen, etc are not handled by dan either does that mean they are not combat classes?

Post so you solo'd punbums with only poisions? and didnt fire a shot or only used a cdef? What did u do poision and burst run?
Yes, I only used poison and burst run; no weapons, no creature/droid speed bumps. Just me and my poisons. Admittedly, it does take multiple application of poisons to kill the whole camp, and it does take a while, but that's the price you pay for not using a weapon.
But yes, I used aLaser Carbineto blow up theircamp after all of the Pubam were killed. I wanted the money, and Iam not going to ping on their lair with a CDEF or my bare hands.

Post you are looknig at those whole topic froma pvp point of voiew and this game is not about pvp.
I was looking at it from a PvE point of view. Yes, we do not kill as fast as a Bounty Hunters and Commandoes with a creature speed bump, but we are NOT Bounty Hunters or Commandoes. We have incredible healing capabilites, they don't.
Normally in PvE, I would join groups and spilt the reward money, or stack poisons with my weapon skills.
While we would all love to have the damage potential of a Bounty Hunter, or even an Elite Weapon class for free, I understand how imbalancing it is. It's like Combat Medics automatically getting Doctorbuffs and Revives. Because, hey,we're out in the field, aren't we? Shouldn't we be able to buff and revive people out in the field?
Incidentally, can you please clarify your position in wanting a bio-weapon with the damage of a DH-17, when you already have enough skill points to afford the cert in DH-17? <see my previous post>
Responding to a private email:
I am really adament against the bio-weapon idea because the Dev's nerf stick hits alot harder than their gift stick.
For instance, just look at the Creature Handlers. Yes, they are still the ultimate defensive class in PvE (due to the fact that creatures can perfectly hold aggro), and that theygained Pet Stims, but they lost the ability to call 3 Rancors (or other high level pets) at Master, and they lost all of their Armor 2 pets (in the wild).
Ok
Incidentally, can you please clarify your position in wanting a bio-weapon with the damage of a DH-17, when you already have enough skill points to afford the cert in DH-17?
One you assume I want Cm/Doc, where i really do not want Doc. My build so far goes like this and im uncertain if i want to keep it or not.
Either MCM or CM 4-0-4-4, with CH at either 2-2-0-0 or 1-1-0-0. now as a CM i realize the dire need for Novice Artisan, so ill need to put 15 pts into that somewhere, also I want some weapons skills And can acheive about laser carbine at its highest level.
Right now I am CM with 4-3-4-4. With only a laser carbine.
Now you will say OMFG with that build your are excellent at pvp and pve why cry about a bio-gun. Well 1 Ithink a bio-gun is tremedously cool, and would be nifty to have to set us apart from the crowd, so to speak. but having the ability to do 200 a shot lets say with state effects(not the same as posture changes) would be a huge asset to us in both pve and pvp.
I do not see how the devs will nerf us. 1 they will probably laugh at our idea of a bio-gun and say ya right sure...... Or they may give it to us so our combat support line has some point. Right now There is virtually no COMBAT inm combat medic, we are more of a mad scientiest running around hurling poisions, only to hope for it to kill someone. The only way for me to get COMBAT in my COMBAT medic is to pick up skills outside of the profession, this actually seems normal to you????? (which BTW, once they enchance doctors cures goooooood luck killing anyone in pvp with a poision or disease, it wont happen) Iguess im looking more to the future. you will say how do you know the dev team will mess up cures? Well Ill say look at their previous track record..... have htey done anything right? Hell 3 months to fix a typo!!
Next as i am also a CH, the reason for the CH nerf was people where soloing red cons way to easy. The nerf the devs did was an attempt to squelch there power, and it was needed! Also what did the Devs give the CH? Nothing they took away! Ther reason for that was CH wasnt a complete profession till the very end of beta, and the devs had no clue they would have novice CH's with rancors running around.
So my answer to yuor question is: I do not think Ishould have to pick up skill outside of the profession to actually get COMBAT in the COMBAT medic. Maybe i'm wrong its just 1 man's opinion.
Bio weapon is a lame idea. Like someone said earlier we are a walking bio weapon. With Health Shot 1 and poisons we get enough DOT damage going. For those of us that chose MCM/MD route, we chose a difficult template as we sacrificed Elite combat skills, surveying, etc.
This is no different than BHs asking for medical skills added to their investigation line. It's not fair that we ask for some type of class weapon. If you want Elite weapon skills, make a like a BH and go pay for them.
Last point I'd like to make, as far as large scale PVP is concerned think on this. You see several players, some with LLC, some with rocket launchers, some with flamethrowers, and some with these bio rifles. Who you going to pick off first? That's right, the guy holding the bio rifle/billboard "I AM A HEALER PLEASE KILL ME".
I'm not sure that those of you in favor of bio-weapons understand exactly what you're asking for.
If we were given bio-weapons, ALL Combat Medics will also become Doctors. Why? Because that will create a character than can heal multiple people at range, buff, revive, poison, disease, have phemoninal mobility (with the +TN currently on Test Center), AND deal awesome direct damage/status changes?!?
WRONG! This is seriously asking for the Nerf stick. I personally feel that, with the appropriate tactics, we are already brokenly powerful. Why attract the attention of the Devs and have them weaken us?
It seems like the people asking for the bio-weapons are mostly CM/Doctors. If the lack of a weapon skill bothers you that much, just suck it up and drop some healing skills and pick up a weapon.
We, Combat Medic/Weapon Wielders, chose to sacrifice Doctor buffs, revives, and experimentation in order to get an elite weapon skill. Why should Combat Medic/Doctors get that skill for free? It's as bad as a Bounty Hunter asking for "healing abilities" in their Investigation line.
If you believe otherwise, I would like to hear your reasoning.
