Thread: MD/MCM: pistols iv or rifles iv?
Considering the effectiveness you will have with only novice marksman skill in PvP you'd probably will do a little better with pistols as the healing speed is based on the speed of the current weapon you are holding(only if it's actively used in combat of course).
I myself is MD/MCM and I use carbine 4. It has both decent speed and damage, and works good in PvE. In PvP it's basically there to throw of suspicions to me being CM since a big rifle would be more conspicous.
It really doesn't matter a whole lot in the end though. You're skill with a weapon is not that which will help decide the outcome of the battle. Rather your medical and nuking abilities.

I'm still relatively new to the game, with pretty much zero pvp experience, although I'd like to get more involved once I have a good set of comp, etc.Any pros/cons to each spec? Am I correct in assuming that I'll heal a bit sooner with a pistol since it's a faster speed? If so, is rifle noticably slower in heal response? Thanks a lot!
One problem there. You need mind for healing pool and ham costs on rifle eat up your mind pool. Also, your heals will be delayed by your speed with the rifle. Best bet is to stick with pistols, and I would even suggest looking for some pistol speed attachments as well

Since the bleeds are no longer terribly useful, ould suggest pistols 3, rifle 3. You get the speed (and defense) of pistols when you are doing PvE and the mind damage for PvP. If you do go with rifles, you can always use a spraystick in PvP (speed has to be a factor since heals are in the same queue as shots and when you really ned to heal someone, you don't want to have to wait 6 seconds).
This appears to be a pretty reasonable compromise, but I think it's important to keep in mind that the main role of a doc/CM is med support; the weapon skill is for last ditch defense and flows from the need for ranged support to get the novice CM box. If it wasn't for that requirement, I'd say that unarmed or one handed melee would be the optimal self defense fighting skill, but the SP cap tosses that idea right out. The points are already invested in novice marksman.
I agree completely, but some people want maximum combat skills. My own setup is rifles 1 and then I flip-flop between artisan and scout as needed. I actually run around unarmed most of the time. I'm definitely far more useful healng and poisoning than I am shooting when in a group.

MD/MCM with carbine 4 and suppression shots
works wonder..with carbine 4 you get all the states that people hates... dizzy/stun/blind...then hit them with suppression shot...oh mama
with MD/MCM you get the benifit of the both worlds from medic side.
Problem is, you'll never hit them. I am a MCM/4440 Doc/0002 Rifleman, and I hit most people in PVP about in time in 10.

Let me propose a scenario. You are on your back trying to stand up, because a Master Carbineer/TKM just kd/dizzied you. You aren't doing squat to me, and I get to stand there and shoot the heck outta ya, because you can't stand up. I can keep you on your back for the whole battle, and you cant do anything about it. So combat skills do affect the outcome of the battle. The only time they don't is in a group raid, where as soon as you throw a poison, everyone comes after you.
Perhaps I failed to make myself clear. Your skill with a weapon, AS A MD/MCM, is not that which will help decide the outcome of the battle.
Obviously the weapon skill of an Elite wepon profession decides the battle, but we were talking about MD/MCM weren't we?
