Thread: Why have poison stop at 1 point?

I'm not against this change directly. What I am against is that this change feels very much like they didn't know how to fix poison so that we get faction points, credit for the kill so we can loot/harvest, and the potential for exploit in PvP. It feels to me like they looked at the real changes and either felt it was too difficult or worse couldn't figure out how to make it happen, so instead of fixing poison we get this half assed patch that more or less removes the problem.

Now poison can't kill so we need to do that single hit to finish it off. Its not really a major change as I never threw poison and let it do the work, I was shooting anyway. After all the stupid fixes and minor changes we needed (it took months to get typos fixed!) now we get this.

As I said this change doesn't change the way I play or really effect me in any way. I'm just upset because it seems like a poor patch just to quiet everyone up on the issues.

i agree with u. if they knew how to fix it im sure they would but i thinking they are trying to make this a quick fix and by doing so are ruining my beloved class.

i told by friend that this was on tc and he laughed at me and said thats the stupidest thing hes heard.

all i know is that if this does go live i will be dropping cm to be the next bh/pistoleer/medic cookie cutter char in the galaxie.

You can probably blame this on all the kamikaze 14-year-old griefers who ran the bridge non-stop in Anchorhead on all servers from cloning center to cantina and back again.

CM's a great support unit, but lots of people used it to simply kamikaze.

If it stops ticking at 1 hp it will still have the effect of a support unit, since any attack with a ranged weapon is almost guaranteed to kill at least one HP of mind.

I liked kamikaze....

afterall I can cure poisons in 1 heal

the only way to fix this is make it so it uses less mind to cure...... (impossible for me to cure more than 4 at once , thats if I get poisoned myself aswell...)

I can assure you that you will not be able to cure my poison pack in one dose. I've tested with the best material and advanced components, regardless of type of successfuly experimentation I have on the Cure Poison C stimpacks, I still have to use that twice. And my base effectiveness on my Poison C is 307 with 101 potency.

I'd have to say I am totally against this change as it seems to completely gimp Combat Medics in combat.

Sure, you can use pretty much any weapon to do that last point of damage, but you have to get the opportunity to do that last point of damage first. And it can only come at that particular time when the poison has dropped them to 1 point. This means that during the entire combat you are vulnerable to whatever the other player wants to do to you if you want to do that last one point.

Now, if you're not a CM/Doc like myself you probably have some other combat class that will make it easier for you to survive and get that last point of damage. But then why even go the CM route considering that our DPS is one of the crappiest of the Hybrid/Elite classes? I'd rather drop CM, master Pistoleer and stack a couple good Health Bleeds that WILL do that last point of damage and get the other benefits that go with that class. As a CM/Doc though i'm gonna have to rely on my measly pistol4 box out of Marksman tree. yay.

Another problem I have with this is that it gives EVERY single class a defense against CM's that we can do nothing about! CM poisoned you? No problem, hit Burst Run. Run away, let the poison drop you to 1 point then heal/regen and go back.

This change makes poison absolutely and utterly useless. Poison is already ineffective for a CM in a group (since the other combat classes can take down a target far more quickly than poison can), now it's going to be ineffective for the solo CM as well.

Guess it's time to get a holocron and drop what I worked for and loved since it's going to be a useless class now.

Bender: You seem to be making one incorrect assumption. Poisons do not drop someone to 1 point and then stop. They continue to tick in order to KEEP them at one point for the full duration of the poison.

Thanks Zarlor But I did get that. Sorry if anything in my post made it seem otherwise.

My point still remains though. Ok, so they are stuck at one point for awhile. But if they burst ran out of the area before I could follow then them being stuck at one point means nothing to me since I can't get to them to do it. All it allows for is someone else to happen upon them and get a freebie incap/deathblow thanks to my hard work. Not that that doesn't happen already

One point may not seem like much, but it's the difference between incap and being able to continue the fight. Since I don't use a weapon that targets mind specifically, that means I have to HOPE that I get the chance to do that one point and that my weapon randomly hits the mind pool in time.

I don't mind getting beat in PvP, it happens every day. What I do mind is being told that my MAIN weapon is completely incapable of winning a battle for me. Does any other weapon stop doing damage at 1 point?

Well, from my experience being a Combat Medic, is that its the coolest **edit** skill you can get (my opinion) and if they are to make this crappy change i will most likely (99% sure) quit Combat medic. I have great fun getting ganked by a band of frenzy rebels and throwing an area mind unit... it makes the game fun for not only me but it surprises the hell out of the rebels. I will be very, very disapointed if they do this patch... and ill have to give up CM and be a Docter... I believe that SOE will see a SERIOUS decrease in the number ratio of CMs on every server

Tests suggest that all hits do some damage to all 3 pools, in a roughly 80:10:10 ratio - 80 to the pool you hit, and 10 to each of the others. Any hit should incap a player with 1 point in any pool.

Our main weapon is a dot and all dot's have been changed to this rule. In my tests with the PvE enviroment everything that I have found that applied to PvE also applied to PvP but there is one thing I didn't check. With the patch that is on TC, you will recieve faction off of NPC's that you poisoned even if someone or something else finished it off. In my test I allowed my pet to have a total kill of a NPC imp guard and I recieved 0 faction and CH xp. the second trial of the test I poisoned the NPC and let my pet tank, i did not fire any shots or do any other damage to the target and recieved 10 faction points. the third trial i alone killed the guard with my pistol and recieved 14 faction. I will run the same test except in a pvp enviroment, I hope we now get faction for the damage our poisons do in PvP.

Thanks for the hard work KaveDawg

Finding out that this seems to be more of a philosophical change on the concept of DOT rather than just a change aimed at CM's to solve several peripheral issues without directly addressing those problems has eased my concerns quite a bit.
