Thread: Docter or Combat Medic???
After the long grind and very little tips or even thank yous I have made it to Master Medic. But know I have the choice ahead of me and I am lost...
1) I have level'd my Pistol skill to specialist and have my Expert Ranged weapon so Combat Medic isnt to far off.
2) Still I'm not really I fighter I like to heal people much more.
3) But I really hate sitting around in the hospitle healing ungrateful people from 75% black out with not even a Thank you.
4) Then agian I have had a few really good experances like tipped 10k for a guy at 90% black and we had a good conversaion to.
I'm just so....mixed up. Please help with your advice. Thanks.
Well there have been a ton of threads to be sure...
But since I wanted revive and buffs as well as ranged heals and the chance to throw around some dots...I choose BOTH!
Lots have posted its not worth it. I love being a healer so I thinks its great.
Do a search and see what others have said.
Drahla da Wookie Master Doc and Expert Combat Medic
The Combat Medic also has a few more severe gameplay issues right now with some of the abilities with the most potential (area effect stims, poison, and disease) still broken. But, poisoning or diseasing enemies is a heck of a lot of fun (once you figure out how to get poison to stick).
I couldn't decide between the two, so I took both.
I'm going both...
For anyone that came from Shadowbane, my only R6 character is a full support Priest... so ya, I'm big on the healing thing... ![]()
Oh but I've only begun... *sigh* gonna take forever... hehe ![]()
If you want to play a class that's working, play Doctor. If you want to roll the dice and hope that Combat Medic is eventually changed into something playable, then by all means go for it and I wishus luck. However, one thing youmay want toconsider is this: with Master Doctor, MedXP flows like water. You don't even need a factory for the advanced stuff, just grind out ten StimC packs (at the public food station if you haven't invested in a droid) and jump into a hunting group. The bonuses I got along the way from Doctor kept my MedXP flowing nicely from just healling damageand all the other meds (woundpacks, enhancepacks, and *especially* reskits later on) made me a very popular party member. Not only that, but by the time I ground through the last box of Doctor Crafting (the only downside to eitheradvanced medical profession IMHO, is that neither of them comes close to keeping the crafting skill up with the rest of the skill levels without grinding) I had enough MedXP to grab the first non-craftingtier of CM and one second level CM skill as well. Yes, that's right, I'm crazy enough to try a Master Medic/Doctor/Combat Medic trio before they do jack to get CM working properly. If it's crap, I'll just drop the CM and pick up Carbineer and play a Combat Doctor as Q-3P0 suggests. Heh. The sad thing really is that I was just going to pick up a few levels of Doctor while I waited for the CM issues to be addressed. In any case, I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Master Doctor still hesitant to give up Survey/Artisan just for ranged stims
actually its easier to dabble being in doctor line then CM line...
remember that 1/2 the doc tree is based on medic line while CM is a totally new set of skills...
hence why u see more master CMs with treatment 4 and doc crafting 4 then u see of master doc that dabble in CM...
to really get effective CM ranged heals requires a hefty investment in the tree..
BTW CMs will get med xp far faster then doctors because stim use maxs out at master medic so doc with stim C heals the same as CM with stim C...and since ranged heals and stims are on seperate timers i will be able to stim twice as fast as a doctor. remember a master Cm will ranged stim way faster than a master doctor will heal wounds...
I completely disagree that a combat medic can make medical experience faster than a doctor.
All you need to gain mad medical experience is the ability to makea crate of enchance action medpack - Ds (which are much easier to make than health medpacks) and have a supply of stimpacks. Go to a busy city, get out your medical droid, and start buffing everyone you see. A decent buff will give you 700-800 medical experience, and furthermore, you can use a stimpack on the newly buffed person for another 250-300 medical experience. Since there is such a small delay between being able to buff, that's about 1.2k experience every 7 seconds. I was able to max out every tree in the combat medic profession (except the crafting branch) in one sitting. A combat medic having to wait on people to get injured will not come close to this rate of xp gain.
You need to be Master Doctor Medical Crafting to craft those.
Methinks you did it the hard way Doomus. Maybe I'm doin something wrong, but hospital xp blows unless you're a Doc with awesome wound heals.
Here's what I did, in a nutshell.
1) Made a ton of money harvesting and selling resources on the bazaar. (Note: did this until I figured out what prof I wanted to play. Worked up to heavy harvs and built a financial empire, woot!).
2) Healed ents in a busy cantina to get the xp rolling - 1 evening
3) Purchased many crates of truly awesome stim Bs with 300+ base heal (not sure how, but I was healing up to 600pt with these babies).
4) Went on two big guild hunts - made mad xp and filled the med tree - 2 evenings
5) Grind, grind, grinded (ground?) my way up organic chem -2 evenings, I was lazy heh
6) Spammed n00b towns "training blah, blah, blah for Free". App xp pointless or what? - 2 evenings, waste
Took a week to make master medic, but I'm a really casual player. A power player could probably do it in 2 days - the app xp is a killer though. In either case, the key is get your hands on the really well made stimBs.
Heh, suppose I could actually address your question - Doc is good, but running ragged all over the battlefield to heal people sucks. Plus, people wig out all the time and run everywhere... while you try and chase em.
Other thing that sucks is riflemen and carbineers camped in the rear who battle spam themselves to a sliver of action/health. Hard to leave the tanks and trek back for those heals (but that's just good xp goin to waste if ya don't! :smileyvery-happy![]()
Hoping ranged heals will make playing a healer more bearable. Still gotta take Doc up to Master Wound T for revive for the complete package.
