Thread: Some tips
Hi all. I played a Pikeman in beta, and plan to continue doing so on Chilastra. I found out a few things during that time, so I figured I'd share some of it:
1. It's hard (or at least was hard a few weeks ago) to get up the polearm tree to reach Novice Pikeman by soloing. Join up with a hunting group as often as you can, and hunt the biggest game that the size of the group you're in will allow.
2. When in groups, help out the marksmen whenever something gets close to them buy using lunge or knockdownto stop the enemy. This isn't being a meatshield: it's tactics. A brawler is meant for close combat and marksmen are meant for distance fighting. Using your skills tohelp marksmenkeep at a distance will allow for a better chance at killing the enemy without anyone getting incap'd or dying.
3. When you reach novice pikeman, you can make credits fast and easy by taking easy to medium difficulty destroy-missions. The spin move is good for taking out groups of lower level critters, and polearmhit2 can do some serious damage, especially with a good lance or vibrolance.
4. Use the terrian to your advantage when fighting something with a gun. Duck into the trenches on Tatooine, etc. Make the enemy get closer to you than it wants to by keeping out of its line of sight. A well timed lunge or knockdown can spell the end for gun users, if followed with the right moves.
5.Whensoloing against white/yellow cons, I usually use beserkas a last ditch effort move. If your opponent and you are neck and neck with very little health left, beserk can pull you through, if your first few attacks connect.
If anyone has something else to add feel free. There wasn't many in the Pikeman profession during beta, so I don't expect there to be many for the actual game. So we've got to stick together and help each other out. Bad pun intended ![]()
Hi,
I have started up a pointed stick artist myself,it sureseems the least used of all... My question is, what kind of weapons should i be on the lookout for in auctions or asking weapon-smiths for as i progress...ie,
1. wood stave..looted from from nutball chasing butterflys
2. reinforced wood stave...this stick had a metal core and i could not take **edit**-down ability until i trained in pole-arms 1 ... did about a billion deliver (local) missions to get enough cash to train this one ... glad i did... the critters that had me running before i had proper use of this weap were toast now...love that 'shatter-your-freakin-leg' move hehe.
3. okay, now what weap?
I guess i'm looking for a list of weaps we are able to use...what is a polearm..what is a pike...i'm guessing at the high end we can wield some nasty hi-tech halberds?

More tips:
1. Artisans can make Wood Staves at start-up. They can also make Reinforced Combat Staves if they are running the Engineering Tree. Artisan weapons, if experimented on (by a knowledgeable crafter) are 10x better than any NPC drop you will find. Love your crafters =)
2. Lances are made by Weaponsmiths and require parts from a Master Artisan. ie, a control module. Get with that Master Artisan and ask for a Control Module before you talk to a Weaponsmith, you'll usually save yourself time, money, and much headache.
I have a crafter buddy and she made me a sick 48-96 4.9 Reinforced Combat Staff. She said she would have to research some different types of buliding materials. So she built me that one. It's great. My normal hits are around 128-190, PH1 hits for anywhere from 125-342, generally in the 225 range. I just found out that I can berserk with a staff in hand =O dang, I thought that was only an unarmed thing. Anyway wow, I hit for 472 one time with that. Okay I guess don't piss off the giant Wookie with the stick. Dangerous.
I can't read all the posts at the moment but the fellow talking about the carbine, that is a sound strategy. I convinced my crafter friend to do some missions with me (har har, she's weak health) and to learn how to use her Carbine instead of the pistol. We got her to Intermediate carbine and her and I together were making mincemeat out of action lines all across the region. A couple of times taunt failed and she got incapped but she *said* she had a good time.
My eventual goal is to become a Creature Handler/Pikeman I thought that would be a neat combination.
My name is Eniikchak and I am on the Eclipse server. Restuss on the moon Rori is my home.
My girlfriend's a Master Artisan, and the best reinforced combat staff she made was 48-105 with a 4.4 delay. I went and got it sliced by a smuggler with slicing 4, and he knocked the delay down to 3.5. I can then put a melee weapon powerup on there and knock it down to around 3.0 delay, and hit for around 200 per swing without specials. Using /polearmHit2, I hit for up to 490 or so. Granted, I've hit for 880 with a lance, but it has a 6.2 delay (it gained max damage on the slice so is 12-199).
By the way, terrain doesn't help unless it's a building or some other structure like a lair. Mobs and players can both shoot through the ground.
My tip is the basic lance can get you killed. Mine is a 12 -165 damage lance. If you are hitting in the upper ranges of that spread then you will stomp creatures into the ground, however there will be times when every hit is below 100. I had this happen to me last night. I was fighting some dark blue Meatlump NPCs and I had a pretty good bit of corpses around my fett when I started hitting for 53, 78, 34 and so forth. With the delay the lance has, that low of damage will get you killed. I died three steps away from the city gates.
In the lance's defense, I wasn't using any of my specials to preserve my action bar, dut to the quick spawn rate. I couldn't loot a corpse or two before more would spawn.
