Thread: So how about those resists?

OK gang, a bit of a shorter expirement this time as it is late and I have an early morning.

I buffed up the recipient again, again it is my wife, bless her heart.

The first thing I want to say BEFORE I go any further.

Much to my astonishment, if the recipient DOES manage to resist the poison, do you know what the message is? "SoAndSo has applied poison" That's right, and there is no resist message. So all the target ever sees is that the poison is applied, it never tells them if the poison was resisted. This should be first on the list of things to be fixed for the other classes. Texxie, please add this to the list as soon as possible.

OK so for the numbers

I tried two C poisons, since no one uses anything else really. One was expiremented for full effectiveness using the best components and resources I have been able to collect, the other was expiremented for full potency. These are my numbers, your numbers will vary. These are probably not the strongest there is either.

1. Potency 94

2. Potency 124

I buffed the recipient with some Cho-nor-hoola, it provided 14% resistence to poison/disease. You can only eat one of these so the effects are not compounded.

Poison number 1 out of 20 attempts, 6 resists 14 effects This is a 30% resistence at this level.

Poison Number 2 out of 20 attempts 4 resisted and 16 effects, this is a 20% resistance.

So you see you can resist poisons, though I am of the mind that it should be a little higher, but they are there and they do work. So those that say you never resist a CM are not telling the truth.

I found some interesting things out though.

If someone applies poison to you and even if you do resist you will never know. I also noticed that if you have a poison on you already and you are poisoned again, it will tell you that "You have sustained more poison". If you resist that second poison, it will not give that message, the only message you get is "SoAndSo applies poison to you."

I am sure this is leading to the perception that no one ever resists CM poisons. Either way if it is perception or people are not resisting as often as they think they should be, there are resists and they do work.. kinda.

Nice test, I was never aware they did not know when they resisted it.

As for the resist food, I am shocked by it, it never seems to help me resist (but I have the same template, so, we might not notice really as we are curing it immeadiately) I would guess I see someone resists like 1/ every 100 people I try and use my med's on. I will try and keep better track to add to this..

Something I really find interesting is that they seem to always get the message that poison had been aplied. Leaving them poisoned or not. That would explain the misunderstanding that people think CM's hit everytime. I thought then only got the "Xxx has apllied poison to you" message if the poison actually stuck..

Well this is weird. I tested with +19 Poison Resist in Mods and 24% Cho-Nor-Hoola and I never, ever resisted a Poison made and thrown by a Master CM. And as a Master CM, the only opponents who have ever resisted my poisons are people who were already poisoned by me (when more people get in range, I toss another to get them and the original people who are still around get hit by it again but "resist" if they are still under the effects of the first).

I'll try it again with lower potency poisons (it's always been 125+). The theory I had was Potency = % chance it will take to the target. And since most Masters I know throw poisons with Potency above 125, even someone with maximum in attachment mods (+25) would still always be affected unless they took Cho-Nor-Hoola as well, and then they would still always be affected by the higher potency ones. If that's not the case, then great.

If people resisted 20% of the time, I would be more okay with our current PvP DPS. I'll go test some more and see if I start getting this.

Like I said in my post too, this was a quick test and I might have had four bad rolls with that poison, I thought it was a little high on the resists on that one. THe 94 potency seemed about right, but the 124 potency seemed odd to me.

I am going to try it again in a couple of days and use more charges. I feel that 20 tries might not be enough as an errant roll here or there might mess with the numbers a little.

Also I am not sure if it matters or not, I know that Zabrak have a few extra abilities that humans do not, I am not sure if poison resistance is one of them or not, but this target was a zabrak.

As far as I know, no species has inherent resistances to poison or disease.

As for the message received, I knew that the target never got the message that they resisted. However, I didn't know that they still received a 'xxxx has applied poison' message. If that is the case, well, that does explain some things.

Further testing is indeed needed, and I'll gladly jump on TC this weekend with anyone who wants to be a guinea pig. Or I'll come to your server and be the guinea pig as well(so that I can see the message myself )

Good info. I have tried to tell people this same information before but most don't listen and tell me I am wrong without listening. Good post and I look forward to your further testing results.

Nice experiment, even if it was rushed you still found out something we didn't know. It's strange how we CMs get a message that the target resisted the effects but the target doesn't and, actually, is notified that they were poisoned.

Texxie,

I would more than welcome you on Ahazi anytime I can meet up with you to test this. Let me know ahead of time so I can get an appropriate selection of goodies together for the occasion

I have yet to hook up with Morganite, but now that I know his name on the server, I think I am going to try and recruit him to work on some of these things together, it would be interesting to make sure that two of us are experiencing the same thing.

What say you Morganite? The best times to catch me are later on Wedensday and Thursday nights, and Saturday evenings, Sunday evenings. But I can be more available on the weekenfd if needed.

That's fine, we talked in game and sunday is when we are going to work some test's. If anyone wants to make a char message either me or Rhen(his in-game name). We can do this in Doaba Guerfell, or somewhere near there as that city is usually dead on our server, and is a starter city.

Um, I'm that guy that is gettin the poison all the time, and i see the validity of your tests, but still, it averages out to the poison landing 3/4 of the time even if i'm on the food. Odds are, even if i resist the first, you'll land the second. I'm not up on the speed of cms, but i'm pretty sure it's only a couple of seconds which isn't even a tick of the poison itself. Anyway, long story short, this has basically saved me the money of buying the food, since i know that it won't help.

Thanks for the hard work.

P.S. most people i know don't get upset at the Poison applied message. Its the little skull and cross bones by their name that they worry about. Oh and then the white where there used to be blue.
