Thread: So how about those resists?

Oh neat, finally a post on the CM board that I think I can help with:

I did a test on this tonight, just a couple hours ago. I wanted to test someclass A poisons i have to see if its even worth it to make them in crates to sell to new CM's.

Class A health poison, cm use 5, potency 58 for #1, and potency 59 for #2.

Test subject was a human with no base resists at all. I just wanted to count how often I was seeing resists when this happened:

I infected him with #2 (pot 59), then without realizing it I started getting resists like crazy, 16 in a row. The test subject was getting the message "O'ren has applied poison to you" but i was seeing my "so and so resists the effects" message. Come to find out I hit the weaker poison after the first shot but learned in the process about the potency affecting if the poisons overwrite or not. The pot 58 was resisted against pretty much every single time while the person was already infected with the pot 59. This is pretty cool I think. As soon as I cured him and started over with the 58 pot first, it infected him as normal with about a 30% resist rate (roughly 1 in 3 resisted). The pot 59 infected every time when being applied over the pot 58.

One of the things I plan to check tonight is if the foods/resists affect the cures being used. For example lets say you have uber venom poison. If you have a cure C experiemented for max effectiveness you can cure this in one shot, but otherwise it takes 2 shots to clean it off. What I am going to check is if you have someone hit with the venom poison and they have eaten the food for resist, will it be possible to cure them with just a single shot of the Cure C it used to take 2 of with no food? I think that it does.

I also noticed that since the patch CM can no longer spread poisons across several stats to abuse the heal order. One Cure C wipes out all poison states where before it was a one for one situation. At first I thought this was because of food that one of my cures cleaned off health and mind poison, but this is something fixed since the latest release.

Questions left to answer:

Does food help with the effectiveness of a cure being used?

Does food reduce the duration on the poison/disease the person is infected with?

Does food reduce the tick on the poison/disease once infected?

More on this after further testing.

Great Test but it is lacking in one part. You need to do the test on a subject without the food. I believe you will get near to almost the same results.

I did a small test. poison p=76.

I hit the subject 5 times with the food and stuck all 5 times.

I place a poison resist +10 cloak on the subject hit him 5 times he resisted 2 times.

Now the food was +22% poison & disease resist. The cloak being only +10 increased the chance by 1/3. Some how I don't believe the food works.

Nothing especially new, but I did some tests this weekend and thought I should share the results. I was using 117 potency poisons, and 23% effectiveness cho-nor-hoola. From my experiments:

Without food:

16 poisons thrown, 16 poisons were not resisted

With food:

23 poisons thrown, 18 were not resisted, 5 were resisted

(Of note, the sequence with the food was: 15 stuck, 1 resisted, 1 stuck, 4 resisted, 1 stuck, so all the resists happened at the end, and if I had stopped at 16 like the first test, it would have looked like only one was resisted.)

I'll probably try getting my hand so some 40% resist foods later, and experiment some +150 potency poisons and try again. However, I expect that the system works by first rolling if the poison sticks, then rolling if the user resists it from food. (So a 40% resist food will give a minimum of 40% chance to resist, regardless of potency.) However, the only evidence to support that is that with the food, the poisons stuck much less that 94% (117 - 23) of the time.

I think somebody else mentioned this already, but just in case... Also of note, in talking to the volunteer for the test, it appears that the "xxx has applied poison to you" message *always* appears, even if the poison is resisted. There is a second message of "you have been poisoned" or "you have sustained more poison" which appears if the poison sticks, but the first message always does appear, which might lead to the assumption that poison resists do not work if they actually are. There was some mis-communications between me and the volunteer though, so if somebody with two accounts could verify this, I'm sure everybody would appreciate it.

I mentioned that message in my original post and I tested it again with my second account this weekend and it is absolutely true. The message "SoandSo has applied poison" appears everytime to the recipient whether he resisted it or not. This would definately lead someone to think they have been poisoned even when they have not.

Now of course the dead give away is whether the poison icon appears on the HAM or not, but since in the heat of combat we all rely more on the instants messages that flash on the screen, I am not going to ever know if I was really poisoned or not.

Texxie, I think you can refer to this as an official bug now and post it on your list, there have been enough confirmations to know this problem exists, of course my offer to test it still stands.
