Thread: Ability to apply Fire Damage over Time

Poison and disease resists are going live. Combat Medics do not have as of yet a method of applying fire. I saw posted in a thread the mention of fire DoT and the Combat Medic profession in the same sentence. That sparked an idea.


Give Combat Medics the ability to apply fire. It could be Molotov cocktail Vasarian Brandy style. Required ingredients are Vasarian Brandy, Synthetic cloth, and ignition source. The end result prototype would be a Vasarian Brandy cocktail that can be applied by only Combat Medics in a single or area fashion.


The idea of strapping on a flame thrower is less appealing as it would step on the toes of Commandos. What a great idea huh? NO NERF TROLLING PLEASE. NO DISCUSSION OF CM POISON or DISEASE PLEASE. Comments, opinions, etc.


I would love to chuck Vasarian Brandy bottles on fire at people /laugh. That would be so much fun. The DoT can be equivalent to typical fire Dot Doctor fire blankets can put it out.

Don't see it ever happening as that would be taking away from the Commandos.

They are the Fire Damage folks.

It would be akin to allowing other professions to apply poisons and diseases(loot drop weapons don't count, as most of those are far below what a CM could craft).

actually one of the ingrediants of brandy is called alchohol. sut use that and the glass container also used in brandy. and also make it a low level fire. something equivilent to the dot weopons. that would be sweet

hehe that would add an extra dynamic to the game. Plus doctors already would have a counter.

Fire is not the sole domain of Commandos. I believe BH has an attack that will set you on fire.

It's a nice idea...but there are a few things to consider before pushing for something with a Flame DoT...


1) Most high level NPC's have high Heat Resists (like 90 to 100%)...Heat Resists effect Flame DoTs...


2) After Publish 7 the dev's NERF'd the Commando Flame DoT down to an amount that can be healed faster by a Novice Medic then it can Tick...my guess is that this idea would end up at the same level or less...


3) Fire Blankets can put out Fire DoTs....but worse yet, Water can as well...people just run into the closest river or lake and our DoTs are put out...


While it sounds like a cool idea, push for this and the Devs may quickly make you basicaly a Fire Grenade and call it at that ignoring some of your other ideas and saying "hey, we gave you what you asked for, right!!!"...


I've just finished grinding a CM on TC and I agree you all need some serious love, especially in the wake of recent changes...Vortexala is doing a FANTASTIC job bringing this to the attention of the Devs and as far as I can tell, THEY ARE LISTENING!!! YAY!!! So hopefully Vortexala will have something good to bring back soon...


Personally (and this is off the record)...I've never understood why Combat Medics were pitted against Doctors...They should be 2 different seperate professions with the only connection being Medic...A Doctor should be a Master of healing Indoors...and a Combat Medic should be a Master of Healing Outdoors...that's how I see it...Doctors have their Buffs...CMs should be able to massively heal ANY damage outside...If the Devs feel the need to lower the power and abilities of CMs, they should also turn UP these healing abilities...


Anyway...to get back on track...gaining a weapon that does a Flame DoT would probably be nice, but in the end, would probably end in more headaches then you need...you'd probably end up with something that you'll end up spending your time pushing for fixes and upgrades...and then you'd hear us Commandos say "Welcome to our World"...


Instead of focusing on a new weapon, as a CM, I'd focus on upgrading those things you already have and the abilities a Combat Medic SHOULD have...

Its been debated for a long time, docs vs cms. CMs are struggling to find their place in swg. Many abilities given to docs would be more suited to cms.


As it stands Docs are able to prep combatants befor combat, heal more efficiently on the battlefield then cms, and patch everyone back up once the fightings over. Where does this leave us?


Heres what I would like to see changed in my opinion.


- Docs should be limited to close range single target heals and cures. A cure from a doc should be strong enough to one shot cure the most deadly poison or the fiercest fire. A cm would have weaker ranged area cures. Docs would still be of great value while CMs will have their role as group support.


- Mind heal should be made more usful. As it stands it has a 7m range and single target. At least increase the range to equal our healing stims. It would be nice for mind heal to have an aoe effect to offset the wounds or reduce them and leave it single target.


- Doc should get the innoculations (if implimented). It will go along with their role as pre batte preperation role.


- CMs should get area heals (if implimented). It would go along with their aoe and ranged group support role.


- CMs should have an increased drag range. Docs can drag 32m while a cm can only drag 19m.


- Give stims certifications or increase the med use on stim Bs. The ability to heal is probably the most important in the game. Super stims available at a novice lvl is inbalanced and takes away from dedicated healers such as docs and cms.


- Allow only cms to heal while engaged in combat. This is very controversal and should be thoughtout well. This will give CMs the role of group healer in swg and Docs pre and post combat healers.
