DiLune wrote:Just a word of advice. It is always possible that you do not get the Doctor position. Why limit yourself by not applying for both? Put in the application e-mail that you would prefer the Doc position but that if you didn't get it you'd do just as well in the CM corr position.
Maybe I should. I don't know man. To be honest the only thing keeping me from doing it is I am concerned my opinion on the CM profession is different than most of the people on here and I don't want to be seen as not representing the community how they would like me to.
For example, I am of the school of thought that CM right now is pretty overpowered and needs to be balanced, but many on here have arguments (valid I might add) against further balancing.
It is a situation where my vision of the profession and things I would like to see changed goes against the majority of people within this profession so I don't think it would be fair for my opinion that is in the minority in here to guide the profession through the CU.But your opinion won't be the only one guiding the profession. There are others chosen for the CU by me who will be there to speak up for their vision of the profession. Kave, Pahd and myself will also be there to speak to our vision of the profession.Yes, as correspondent your job is to speak for your profession and community and put forth their ideas and viewpoints. But that doesn't mean you can't have your own. Lord knows I've always had my own opinion and have never held it back while posting about Combat Medic, but when it came to what the community felt best for the profession, that viewpoint over-rode my own and that's what I would take to the devs.As long as you can keep them seperated, there isn't a problem.
Very true. I am quite capable of differentiating between my opinion and the opinions of the community.
I guess it is more of an issue of clarification. My impression of the role of correspondents was to be a conduit between the players and the devs, reducing the noise and clutter for them so they here one coherent voice instead of having to sort through thousands of posts regularly.
Heh well I think that last paragraph just answered my own question.
I ended up submitting my name but mentioned my concerns that I outlined in this thread.
There are many open-minded, knowledgable people in this community, so the decision as for myself comes down to if my opinions are too out of the mainstream CM community or not.
I like to think of myself as a pragmatist and I am open to debate and discussion.
I just want to help out somehow - correspondent or not I am here for my community.
pfft, you don't listen to me when I said apply for both, but you're gonna listen to dilune?

I'd apply.
But I don't have enough time. They'd fire me for lack of Correspondent time. :/ So I'll just continue inserting my opinions into one of my favorite professions.
And woe to anyone who fails to pay attention to me!

I thought about it. The idea tempted me. But I've got alot on my plate to deal with right now. From what I understand this isn't going to be as easy as many seem to think it is. If I'm wrong please say so Texxie.
How much busy work is there really? Where do the headaches come from? How much time per day would you need to put forth as a correspondant?

There isn't much busywork, really. It's mostly compiling endless lists of one sort or another, focusing the community towards certain discussions, etc.
The headaches come in the form of feeling as if your railing against a brick wall and everything you say/send is being lost into a black hole with no response forthcoming... which happens on occasion(more often then I'd prefer, really).
But right now, the job doesn't entail much. Once the CU kicks into gear there may be a lot you'll have to do such as directing your team and their testing, gathering feedback, etc.
It's not a hard job, but there can be some pressure and stress at times. Speaking for a wholecommunity does weigh on you after a while... but in the end, it really is worth it

Pretty sure you do. There is an NDA attached to the position.
