Thread: So this is fair??

I disagree with the notion that Combat Medic should be support class.
COMBAT medic suppose to excell in damage dealing, both in spec line (poisons) and in underlying requrements / compartible career choises (master weapon support required).

The people who want CM be a support class are the ones who mastered doctor to be perfect healer - which is very viable spec, but is but one of 4 possible elite classes who can accompany CM to the master level, and the other 3 are: rifleman, pistoleer, carabiner - all damage dealing classes.

Everything in the class (including class title) indicates that it's primary damage dealer, not support class.

Hmm well the short range of combat medics isn't entirely true...I can nail someone with a poison from 100m away, taking into accountarea of effect. However, the effectiveness of the poison suffers greatly.

Poison C experimented for range with advanced dispersal mechanisms can get around 45m listen range. The area of effect will hit around 15m...so someone standing at the far end of the range will be crying nerf without thinking because by the time his client registers your dot on the radar you are long gone. Poisons experimented for range only hit for 80-120 a tick depending on resources though =p

So its only BS if someone claims a CM hitthem from out of radar range and killed in 10 seconds...a more realistic number would be 1-2 mins.

except that 1/2 of the abilities in our profession are meant to heal others...

not ourselves....

definately seems like a support class in that respect...

1/2 the class is offensive poisons and diseases

1/2 is support ranged healing and AOE healing...

tough to make a call either way...

but the way i see it is...dots let me do both.

put remember when u add the aspect of a elite combat class, its very hard to separate the abilities of that class from the CM...

so if u take just CM and nothing other than that..i think u are definately a support class...

add elite weapon class and u become a damage dealer with support abilities...

add doc instead and u become one of the ultimate support classes...

but just alone if some1 just mastered CM and nothing else....i would have to call them a support class....as they dont have the upfront damage dealing capabilities of the other classes....even the damage modifiers on the ranged support moves do not increase the damage of the weapon u are using..in fact the warning and threatening shot line do less damage then a normal shot and the roll lines prevent you from specialing...

so if you ask me why i think CM is a support class that is why...

of course if u add say pistoleer/carbineer/rifleman to this u add more damage dealing ability thus allowing u to be less support...

but just looking at what CM offers and requires, I would say its more of a support class than a offensive class...even support classes can be offensive...but not upfront frontloaded killing damage....

so its very important that u seperate the CM abilities from weapon abilities when looking at if CM is support or not....

pistoleer/anything is offensive...carbineer/chef is offensive...no reason pistoleer/CM shouldnt be...

Ele, simple logic:

CM by itself: 1/2 healing 1/2 damage (you said it yourself and I agree with you on that).

CM can become master in one of the 4 classes: Pistoleer, Rifleman, Carabiner, Doctor.

Becoming master in three out of four makes them damage dealing class.
Becoming master in one out of four makes them support class.

3 > 1, that's reason why I think CM is rather damage dealer then support.
Just because we don't have frontload damage like some, AOE is what makes us great damage dealer - at this point of time CM is the ONLY class in game that can take out a group of people with one attack.

I have no idea how you could say a CM would be the main damage dealer. Assuming we're talking SOLEY about mind damage, a BH spamming eyeshot or a rifleman (either spamming with a spraystick or at long distance with another weapon, situation depending) using bleeds and headshot do damage much faster. And of course you're basing off of the best of the best, doctor/CM crafted, best resources poisons. Mine, if I'm lucky, hit 200 a tick. People have plenty of time to get to me (and often do) unless they stand around and panic or run away.

I had one fight today against a group which had a doctor and the poison, even AoE, did pretty much nothing. People just need to realize that there is a counter to everything, and they can't beat everyone with the same tactics.

Hmm u could be a CM/Chef and support...u could be a CM/TKA and be man damage dealer...

you could be CM with some SL and be support...you could be CM/entertainer and be support

I think the point u as missing is in all ur example the determining factor of if u are a support or damage dealer depends on what ur other skill is...hence CM in that sense is support...

so dont look at class combos...look at CM...if u took nothing but CM and its requirements...would u be support or combat?

pistoleer/carbineer/rifleman no question if they only got those skillsud be acombat class...

BH/Commando again if theytook no other skills then they would still be main damage dealers...

SL....definately support...

CM? i say support....

Reread my post : it clearly says MASTER.
You can't be MASTER CM and MASTER Chef (or Master TKA, or anything but the 4 professions I mentioned)

Pure CM by itself - hard to tell what it is (even you said it yourself 1/2 skills are for healing and 1/2 for combat).
If you decide to master (become master) in another profession: 3 of them damage dealers, one is healing.

To someone else:
> I have no idea how you could say a CM would be the main damage dealer.

Because when I go out with a group to fight another group - I am primary damage dealer. As in the person who dishes out most damage. The classic definition of successfull group (Crowd Control - Damage Dealer - Medic) applies very well to SWG, some classes are good in CC, some are good in healing and some are good as damage dealers - such as CM.

1vs1 - yes. But this is MMORPG - the sooner you will get it the better.
In group battles CM outdamages many classes except may be BH. In 20 seconds (Action Poison + Mind Poison) CM alone can take out lots of people, something no other class can do.

> And of course you're basing off of the best of the best, doctor/CM

And of course you are wrong.
All my poisons are made by myself without buying any schematics or sub-components and using only basic components and I do NOT have anything in doctor line. The stats has been posted by me several times, here they are again:

Are you master CM ? What are the stats of your sub-components and poisons ? What QUA resources did you use ? How did you spend experementation points ?
Post your stats - let's see where the problem/difference is.

> People have plenty of time to get to me (and often do) unless they stand around and panic or run away.

How can someone GET to you unless they have ranged KD (and why would they want to if they do use KD) ?

Or are you standing around and panic after you throw poison ?
You suppose to run away as soon as poison applied, towards the rifleman, away from anyone else. Let them chase you (shooting while moving and at moving target is penalised) while poison ticks its corse.
That's assuming you are not one of the elite classes, then unleash your weapon on them, for example Novice Carabiner gets very nice /actionshot2 which lowers posture and bleeds - good to go with action poison.

I'm a master pistoleer. I said they can get to me. Not that it does them any good

As far as being a main damage dealer, in an even group vs group, I could see an aoe as being the most overall damage. But it's not concentrated. That was what I was going for, as even if you're doing the most overall net damage, it doesn't mean it's as effective.

Yes, I'm a master CM, no, I'm not using the best materials. Or advanced comps. My post was more in reply to Elenora. It took me long enough to get the materials I did, and quite honestly if you go even more out of your way, you SHOULD be doing more damage.

As far as tactics in pvp, it depends on the situation. If I'm behind a building, no, they won't catch me, because I'll be bolting. If I'm pinned in a building (say I just got off a starport and there are Imps outside, or maybe I'm safer in a building because an AT-ST is out and could warp on to me at any moment), then they have ample time to reach me, which is when my other combat skills come into play.

Yes, I know how to use the skills to their best, and I rarely die, but it's less because of the power of the skill and more because people don't know how to fight off a tactic that wasn't used until it was fixed. I had a great firefight today where as soon as I poisoned someone he called a doc friend, then had someone circle around so I couldn't kite them. Fighting a CM, just like fighting a KD'er, requires tactics. And people are too lazy to learn tactics and just call for nerfs instead.

Please stop trying to pigeon hole us into 'support' characters..

It was too difficult for people to believe clerics should be able to smite in DAoC and look what happened to that class/game. Once the nerfs started they never stopped and now clerics can hardly solo much..

As far as I'm concerned, our DoTs are like any other classes highest weapon: They'rehard to find materials for and even harder to find great materials for them. With resource shifting its even possible there will be times they aren't even available.

It isn't like I can just go find everything I need for them on the Bazaar.. Even if I could, it would take me hours of travelling just to collect them from the different planets they'd be sold on. Something that difficult to get *should* be effective.

If people are just moaning because mind damage is unhealable, just say so, don't demand nerfs on my class, thank you.

Forgot to mention that we also need to spec Doctor med crafting or get a doc to help us to make poisons REALLY good..
