Hi all,

I play a Master Doctor that has taken Pistoleer up to just the first "Novice" box, and I am finding that the road to move up Pistoleer is too long and too boring for my taste (I play odd hours and solo Mobs and missions often, and find combat skills are boring to develop). Anyway, I was thinking of picking up CM and becoming a PvE killer via poisons and disease as a change of pace. Can any Master Docs/Mast CM's comment if they can handle missions, or kill tough Mobs on Adventure planets, without an elite weapon (like pistoleer?). I imagine that a MD/MCM can make some very potent chemical attacks, but are they enough to bring Mobs down?

Thanks!

Sure can't. And not only that, soon we won't be able to kill players either. /cheer

Okay, no I haven't used search yet, but have gone back the first 4 pages of posts for the last week.

I haven't seen anything addressing this for a while, but it's still happening for me - and even worse.

When using a poison solely to take a mob down, I've known about the "no permission to loot this corpse" if no other damage was done to the mob - supposedly you just needed to damage it with a shot from your weapon and bingo, good to loot. Learning that the hard way, changed my practice a little bit and that worked... for a while.

Now, I seem to be running into the issue itermittently (and mind you MORE times than not) I'm poisoning mobs to death and doing a few thousand damage with my pistol, and still not being able to get looting rights.

Has something changed since 10/24 ? I've only been a master CM for a little while, and have had some success (master doc/cm with marksman pistol 4) pairing with another doc with revive. As long as one of us is alive , can revive the other.

Usually, especially against Krayts, I'm guaranteed to die. All I'm concerned about is landing that poison. I'm laying dead until revive, but that poison is ticking, and if I can get area off as well- all the better. Can even get in those thought to be needed pistol shots before the timer is up to throw the area. So at this point, I'm slowly ticking off roughly 1000 pts of damage or about 16k. Revive and repeat, loot.

As of the last few days, it appears I'm only having a 1/5 success in obtaining looting permission. I've tried it both ways, grouped and not grouped with my doc cohort - same results.

Note - in every case I am getting incapped/deathblow. Is this where I am losing looting permission ? If it is, well, I suppose I can understand there being a penalty for that. My main concern is that it didn't appear to be that way as little as one week ago, and I cannot seem to find any information at all about it recently.

Any information or opinions about this ? Thank you.

"come watch me solo a Bull Rancor Lair with my poisons and my Cowardly Gurreck"

You + Gurreck = 2.

2 is not "solo"

Hehe funny you should ask.

My friend and i on Eclipse are Doctor /Fencer and CM/Pistoleer

It is very efficient. We are still low level, so we run Bol missions on Dantooine, but it works out very well.

With warning shot, and all the bleeds we can put down, we can handle more than 1 bol if she tanks and i keep the other one at a distance.

Very nice, cant wait for some high level enhances then we will run the route.

Good luck

Having just decided to climb the Combat Medic tree, this particular topic is very interesting to me.

I find it a little disconcerting that the majority of responses detail the use of a pet. (I am not here to discuss whether "solo" is defined as a single SWG account or an in-game player without the aid of a pet/PC/NPC.) Based on these responses, I now view the Combat Medic class a bit differently. Here are my impressions based off of this thread:

  • It is a support class (less combat, more medic)

  • It is underpowered (in PvE)

  • Pets are overpowered

Detailed explanations of each point:

Support: Despite stemming from the Medic profession, I was hoping that a Master CM would be a considerable threat in battle instead of continuing to be a support role. While I can get increased healing range, the medicines don't seem to be any better than the Medic Stimpacks. I haven't used any Ranged Stimpacks, but I feel like I will be healing less damage and less frequently by using Ranged Stimpack-A instead of my trusty (standard Medic) Stimpack-C.

Underpowered: When the responses do mention actually poisoning the target, they say they are using Poison-C. Unless they Poison-C's have been experimented to be easier to use, they can only be used by a Master Combat Medic. The implication is that the other poisons are not effective. On the other hand, none of the responses describe their early levels as Combat Medic, so I could be jumping to conclusions. Perhaps Poison-A's are fabulous Gnort killers! I'd like more information about the early years of a Combat Medic.

Pets: Pets are valuable because they keep the target occupied while the poisons work their magic. With the wonders of healing, the pet can be kept alive long enough for the poison to deal serious damage. In comparison, a lone Combat Medic is unable to "tank" the same creature despite the ability to heal him/herself. This is because:

  • Pets have better HAM than players

  • Damage to a pet's mind can be quickly healed with the /trick command

  • The 'Heal Speed' modifier applies when healing other entities, not when healing yourself

  • Creature AI is not smart enough to attack the healer (yet)

(I know that some of these reasons will be mitigated by the upcoming creature balance and changes to the Creature Handler class. But knowing how expensive medicines can be, I don't think it's unbalancing to give medics the ability to heal themselves at the same rate that they can heal others. Besides, they're using those same medicines on their pet and probably getting a better heal-per-use ratio!)

I don't expect to carve wide swathes of destruction across the forests of Dathomir, nor do I expect to deal as much damage as an elite Combat class (eg TKA, BH, Swordsman, Pistoleer) -- I just want a better damage-per-second ratio than someone who's acquired a couple boxes in the Marksman tree.

I'm currently aiming for Master Combat Medic, and I'll appreciate any advice along the way. Thanks!

Almost forgot! Also disconcerting:The tactic of poisoning, getting killed by the target, and not cloninguntil the poison finally kills the creature. The fact that this is a viable strategy indicates that this game still needs some work.
