Yes, getting a non-CH pet is a great idea! There is a Tatooinian Rock Beetle that has a armor rating of 1 and 2200 HAM that absolutely does a killer job tanking. On Intrepid, these Rock Beetles cost about 2500 credits.

Also, if you pick up Novice Artisan, you can target surveying jobs that pay about 1500-1800 credits each. All they do is take time to run to the pre-scouted spot of high concentration and then run back to the mission terminal. That right there saves you on med usage, but is a boring time indeed.

Resource gathering for the purpose of selling is a lucrative business, especially if you get Scout skills and harvest up the herbivore and avian meats.

I have also made a bit of cash at NPC spawn spots. Killing meatlumps or swoopers or basically anything humanoid will usually drop a fair amount of hard currency.

Getting into a guild that will help support you is also a good thing.

Anyone else got any suggestions?

Hi

Good thread, I would like to contribute.

First off , I started out as master weaponsmith on wanderhome, and switched to combat medic+ pistoleer on Sunrunner to play with friends.

As a weaponsmith the challenge is getting to be master crafter, the journey itself, setting up resouces and business connections, finding the 500K steel to make it to master. When you reach master and you enjoyed wealth and fame , the fun slowly goes out and other weaponsmith take over.

As a Combat Medic its reverse. Here I find the joy is when you are a master using your skills. This is a joy finding out its is ridicully easy to get to master, compared to combat proffesions and most artisan professions. I found it little rewarding fooling around with poison A when poison B is around the corner(like hours of grinding) etc and Poison B is strictly the same as A just better.

So getting to master combat medic took like 4 days playing 4-5 hours having alot of fun, interweaved with some boring hours of grinding. Getting to master can be achieved with little funds. Beaing a master requires some funds, in that you need resources and a factory due to crates need for poison components.

I choose a side profession of pistoleer silly me yes i know, but I really want a profeesion that is evolving as the same time as being a master. My hardships are as follows.

1) Money

2) Finding out the unusefullness of combat medic

3) The flaglant issues in this profession and why they are not being adressed.

All other hardships can be boiled down to these 3 issues.

I think one should seperate issues between how to improove the current way a CM proffesion works and how to alter it to be some usefull.

1) Money

Alot of usefull mails here on how to get money, this is my biggest concern.

CM+Artisan. Survey mission as Master artisan 1800 for each is still good money, 900 if your not master is somelacking.

CM+Artisan. Sell powerups. Will give a very good profit.

CM+Doctor. Selling medical supplys to combat profession or CM, Stim B and wound packs etc.

CM+CH . Selling creature like rock beetle or cowardly guerrecks. Doing missions

CM + combat . Well difficult. But i would be dilligent and get a solar generator , sell power cheap and buy another generator etc. Dont go for the BEST site but one easily to maintain, this gives a steady income.

CM+combat. Do missions, rebel imp normal , I killed humanoids to get the ranged xp, selling encoded disc and locked container. I was scout getting hides, some income here but mainly i get meat to my schematics.

2+3) Finding out that people still want a doctor with them in battle instead of CM is the worst for me. The ranged healing is only 15 more than a doctor, The animation of ranged stims just drops the proffesion to new low standards.

The blatant neglect of not making decease and schematics work. These things can be easily fixed and then maybe we can dicusss how to improove the profession.

Ooh, thats a good one. How do you other CMs make money if you dont sell medical supplies? I suppose you could make wound packs and rely on tips in the med center, but that is major boring **edit**.

It is a bigger problem on TC than on the live servers.

Well, I do sell medical supplies, but I also always have at least one harvestor on ore all the time and sell that (that usually pays for my harvestor upkeep), sell excess power, occasionally go to the med center and get tips (tips seem to be somewhat better than they used to be), run destroy/deliver/survey/explorer missions and even go fishing and sell the fish meat and fish. Destroy missions are especially good when I need herbivore meat, I just pick up 2 eopie missions in the same direction (or other herbivore of choice) and run a bunch in a row.

I always find ways to use my cm skills. I am fortunate enough to have a great guild and we all love to go hunting. We usually hunt on Dantoonie or Lok 3 to 4 times a week. I am the only cm so my main job is to keep them alive. I don't do any of the shooting. I keep myself in peace mode and stay about 25 m from the rest of the group. This way if they get poisoned by the MOB I won't be in harm's way of getting caught in it. I usually throw a health poison at the MOB since most of my group have pistoleer skills.

So not only do I get to use my CM skills daily, I also make money while having fun.

Money seems to be the biggest problem it sounds like, since you cant do anything about the lack of good/advanced resources nor the bugs in the class itself or the class balance issues. I did a little thinking and remembered this Rogue Corsec base on Corellia (loc 5306, 1524) that housed about 25 or so NPC's. These drop a up to 300 credits per kill, but average about 100. A CM+Combat profession could prolly clear the base over and over again. By the time you kill the last NPC, the first batch should respawn. If you bring along a Smuggler, he/she can slice the containers in the base too. POI's like these are a good way for combat oriented CM's to make money.

Cheers, Zandra! I have found that to be the best method as well. I just joined a greatguild, and we did a hunting trip to Endor. With all members picking 2 missions in same direction, The money rolled in as did the xp. We had a great time (which is the most important part) and I even got the chance to do some shooting as well. CM's are supposed to be frontline, so group hunting missions are perfect.

I also do explore missions in between hunts, they are fun and pay well. Grouping with a ranger for explore missions is even better, as they can track for you.

Great ideas here, all. Love the idea of this thread!

Money is an issue that's really individual. Some will have this problem, others won't.

The biggest issue I have is not being able to experiment my own profession-exclusivecomponents and really crap resources.

Making money as a CM.

My favorite planet for money is Lok, it used to be very hard because the lairs were practically on top of each other but since a patch about 3 weeks ago this isn't a big issue anymore.

You will need:

1. Someone or something to tank for you, if whatever you use has few HPs you will need more than 1.

2. Some knowledge of what missions to get. Never take any creature missions and never ever take anything with 'Nym's' in the name ie Nym's base or large Nym's base nor anything involving Droidekas. That leaves Corsecs, Mercenaries and one other NPC that i can't remember the name of might be something Blood. There will almost always be 3 NPCs to kill, usually 1 is a destroyer, always pull and kill him 1st he will wipe you out at range and is always agro so hit him 1 time then run well past the tanks so he will follow and you won't die. Do the same with the other 2 then the lair is open and NO more will respawn.

These missions pay 8k to 16k per and can be done solo if you are a CH or have an ATST or with as many people as you want. If you don't haveCH skills or an ATST hang around the med center or cantina in Nym's stronghold groups form up fairly often and healers are almost always a welcome addition but it is best to bring your own group if possible.

Duoing with a good CH i have made over 100k inside of 3 hours.

Oh BTW make sure and clone at Nym's (the only town on the planet) you will die at some point, expect it

Also make your meds before you go to Lok their are no crafting stations on the planet (unless you have a droid with a craftingmodule of course)

I try to spend 1 or 2 nights a week there with a small group,i went from having to borrow the money to get there to never having any money concerns and i keep the max # of harvesters and a factory going at all times on several different planets.

You dont need an AT-ST to do 25k missions on endor or 16k missions on lok,I do them with a 23rd cl GSP.I will be try'n them with a CG and a wrix, I just cant stant the tought have having a bug follow me around as a pet /shiver. the smaller the tank you have the more time it takes. Always better to group with a CH then to solo, IMO.

Posion A/B's are bout the most worthless item in the CM crafting tree but can be somewhat usable. I dont think may are having problems with med xp, I had trouble with crafting xp. I did find that waiting on a shuttle or group members I could craft a few posions. Use them A/B's, I was amazed how much xp I got when tossing small posions that did almost no damage on a group of mobs. If I wasnt healing I was tossing a posion and getting 500-1k xp medon adverage by chain tossing other wise worthless posions. By giving me something to do with the stuff I crafted my crafting xp seemed to go faster. Then again I am a you make it you use it person.

Droids are nice. I have a advanced probot with ar2 and 40% resists and a 110% med mod. Not only does he aid in healing but when needed a paper tank to get destroyed with you burst run or wait for another tank to get on the mob. Droids have saved me countless times on Endor and Yavin.

Getting mobs off ya is alo easer if you tell your pet/droid to attack and then posture chage the mob. Using supressions fire, actionShot1/2, ect (no knockdowns) seems to give just enough time to get the mobs attention off of you.

Use AE stems. AE stems just rock when you have more then two targets. Saves the mind and in the end uses less resources.

hmm cant think of anything else that I have not already read above.
