I have found, especially recently, that the triple master template of Master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer and Master Teras Kasai Artist with good Doc-Buffs are GREAT for PVE.
But against other players, you don't stand a chance. Ever. At all. Unless by some sheer form of luck.
Hopefully though that will change soon.

Not a problem for me as PvE is my main focus. If I ever get caught with a TEF after a faction mission (I'm a covert - very cover - Rebel, by the way), or in some other way get into combat with a player (other than voluntary duels), I have failed as a Smuggler and "got caught". If I "get caught", that's what Feign Death is for.

Now, that doesn't mean this won't change for me in the future, but that's my stance at the moment.

Ok so first let me say you all have an awesome correspondent. His posts are part of the reason I am becoming a smuggler even though the revamp isn't going through right away.

A little background, I have been playing since August, only mastered 5 professions...but lately have gotten bored of my current template. I PvE alot and also PvP quite a bit, but could care less if I win. I play for fun. So I am working on Master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer, and TK 4404 (I am already TKM) with some medic.

What I want to know is do you have any advice for a new smuggler? My hubby played a smuggler months ago and just recently remastered, but says if I go smuggler he will finish up commando instead. So I know how slicing works, spices, and such. Just wondering if there is anything else I should know on my path to becoming a smuggler. Thanks and you will see me around as I post alot not only on the Valcyn boards, but the doc boards so now that I am dropping doc you will see me here!

Welcome.

Ya, I was kinda sick of my template too....Master Smug, Master Merchant, and some pistoleer and medic. Well, I've decided to drop the merchant, and go TKM. And boy o boy, I must say that I am having a lot more fun. The Sumggler specials are pretty weak by themselves, as I'm sure you know, but when you combine them with some combat professions, it's killer. Look out, Triple master here I come.

Drop the medic and pick up armor and doc buffs. I dropped medic months ago and have never had an issue. If the poo really starts to fly, I just feign and read the boards for a while. I do not have to feign much though.

That build looks great to me, I went triple master once myself, I couldn't stand the loss of medic

If you have gone through the guides in the 'Important Links' thread that is stickied at the top, I'd say you are ready for just about anything that is out there.

Things may change with the revamp (Hopefully they will) but I think you will do just fine

Welcome aboard and thanks

Thank you!!That link helped me allot. I decided to go with TKM. One more question for all of you though. I want to do Master Dancer and TKM but how would you advise me to set up my stats? What i'm looking to keep enough points in the action stats to be able to do at least one buff in the 3 minute 20 second time frame and put the rest into Mind stats for TK. Any ideas?

Are you human? Basically any other race besides human needs to have a buff (doctor or accaragm) to do this. Probably if you can max out your quickness you should be fine. Throw the rest into mind related pools. Personally, as a Twi'lek TKM/Dancer, I max mind as much as possible and then just keep a fresh supply of accaragm for when I dance.

I'm currently a smuggler (I have been for about 8 months now) and I'm considering keeping TKM, dropping smuggler, and going for Master Ranger. I think if I do this, the thing I'll miss the most is the smuggler community. How is the ranger community? Do you generally look out for eachother like smugglers do? I'm a Wookiee and I think it'd have great roleplaying value if I was a ranger. I like the "living off of the land" idea. Any way, thanks for reading this.

The Ranger community is pretty excellent, actually.

Do we look out for each other, well, yeah! Have a look through the posts in the forum on the state of the profession (our corry has neatly bundled everything in stickies cos we lose stuff round here), then a look at proposals such as The Outdoorsman, The Ranger Hat and the ongoing discussion about who/what/where there should be a Great Ranger Meet.

I know only of one other profession that regularly has a cross server meetup for its members where folk will generate a newbie toon and just go play for the heck of it

Oh, and we like wookiees. They're good for keeping the bothan away from the punch bowl

The ranger community here is pretty great. If you need help, just ask. There's always posts on how to be better rangers. It's not a hard profession to master. Once you get it, people will always want your help. Either hunting, or just tracking. Make pretty good money off of it that's for sure.

Helpful hints -

refrain from asking for survival macros.

read the scout forum sticky guide.

don't ask for a camping macro.

don't ask for waypoints for areatrack lest you be called a boobyhead.

do ask questions after doing searches.

Ranger is a lifestyle, not a profession. You already have pistols, pistols work well, really well, with Ranger. With traps they work better. Smugglers are nice people and generally smart - you should fit in.

No macro requests or you are beaten with a wet durni.
