Thread: Medical Droids and Combat Medics
*feels very ignorant, but jumps in*
I want to invest in a droid for healing in the field and crafting meds, but not fighting. Could someone please list the features I need to ask for without using abbreviations or acronyms? I'm working my way to combat medic, so I'm looking for a droid that will last me a while. And, what happens to the droid if you die?
is there truely an advantage to having a 2-1B w/ a med mod2 and crafting station vs say an R5 unit w/ the same attachments?
what does the 2-1B do that the others can't?
As I have said before I plan to go Master CM/Master Carbineer. I plan to get a top of the line probot droid for attacking and defending and a Medical Droid to assist me with healing others during combat.
I hate being a downer, but I just figured you should know - you can't be a Combat Medic and Master Carbineer. The only other elite class you can master with Combat Medic is Doctor. You just don't have enough skill points left over after Master Combat Medic to start any other trees. Even if you strip off every skill you have that isn't Medic or Ranged Support, you can't even get close to mastering another elite class. It's a curse we share only with Bounty Hunters and Commandos. Long may we bewail it. ![]()

Lousy lack of an edit feature.
Sorry about that. What am I talking about? Commandos can master any weapon they choose, or be a Teras Kasi artist. Duh.
So yes, we are second only to Bounty Hunters, in that a Master Bounty Hunter has no other options, and can master no other elite skill, whereas Master Combat Medics can be Master Doctors, and vice versa. Everyone else has at least two secondary options. Which, I suppose makes sense in the context of the movies, because the most feared characters throughout the galaxy were always the ruthless bounty hunters and the keen combat medics. ![]()
It's cheap. Can hold all the modules a medic would ever need. It floats. It's fast, so it can keep up with you in the field. I've only had mine get hung up on terrain once. (a big improvement over the R series, and mouse droids I tried)
Plus there's something very stylish about having a floating orb by you while you heal.
Interesting idea Nohup. Forgive my lack of droid knowledge but you don't have to be a BH to have one of those?
To me, the biggest letdown of droids is A) you can only call it in a city (or a player's home incidentally but oddly not in a PA hall) and B) only a surgical droid allows you to heal wounds anywhere which makes most medical droids of pretty limited use.
Oh, another thing... DON'T try and make DZ-70 droids fight... they will LOSE.
You can call them in a camp (or at least you could yesterday)
> B) only a surgical droid allows you to heal wounds anywhere which makes most medical droids of pretty limited use.
You could do it with any droids with med module installed (I used R5 for example), did it change with today's patch somehow?

Ok, like i said, my droid knowledge is a little lacking...
So, someone explain the difference to me again on what a surgical droid gives you versus another droid with just a med-module?
The modules are what's important.
Surgical is a frame, just like R2, mouse, etc... Nothing special about surgical droids.
Put a medical module in ANYTHING and it's a medical droid.
you can heal wounds anywhere, if you have the droid out, and you get some bonuses if you have a good module.
Most importatantly, get a food/chem crafting station in your medical droid, and you can craft advanced meds in the field, or while your sampling.
yeah the types of droids are just eye candy...
personally i think this was a huge brain fart by the devs.. i mean they basically make it so a probot can do everything else any other droid with a similar module can do...
so DE end up being a one item classes...they really need to seperate the to modules and the abilities and the chassis...like only a surgery droid can carry a med module or probots cants hold crafting and med modules..
that way DEs would have something more to sell...right now there is no reason to get anythng besides a probot with a med mod and a crafting station outside of RP/personal reasons...
I have a surgery droid and refuse to get a probot...i think they are just silly...look at my handy dandy healing probot?
But I do like my little floaty-droid.
I've mentioned this before, but the single most helpful droid function for a medic is this...
Name it "TIP_YOUR_MEDIC"
and send it on a patrol route around the med center.
(helps if it's a probot)
I saw a probot like that floating around the ward on Cornet the other day! Freaked me out! (And I work there. :smileywink
Now I noticed on the latest patch that droid mods were working again, because I've NEVER gotten my droid to allow me to heal wounds outside a med center or camp. I'm had him out, grouped, and it doesn't work. I've tried it inside and outside of buildings and nothing. (He's got a med 1 module) Though I like bucket, I'd like to get a floating droid. They're cool, though they don't look enough like the "interagator" droid from the movie. ![]()
