Let's look at this thread.

  • Original poster asks a question. Should have read the FAQ first, but didn't for whatever reason. Might be because he's lazy, might not be.

  • complete answer given., which is in the FAQ

  • Snotty, elitist comment thrown in after a complete answer was given to look in the FAQ.

  • Numerous posts about reading FAQs and unfriendly posts. Including one with the quote "Using it instead of posting questions repeatedlyfrees up space on the front page for any serious topics of discussion."

Post #1 of this thread, question asked.

Post #4 of this thread, question answered.

Post #5 of this thread, witty answer given about rudeness, etc......So, of these 3 posts, wich one cause most of the responses in this thread?

I think you will not find any spiders in the FAQ. You may find reference to these spiders, but they are not in fact, located in the FAQ.

Q: What is Spider Venom?

A: Spider Venom is obtained from the Fire Breathing Spider inside the Geonosian Bio-Lab/Cave/Dungeon on Yavin. It replaces the Infection Amplifier(Regular/Advanced) during the crafting stage. This will usually raise the Effectiveness greatly. These aren't as common as they once were, but can still be found.

We say in the FAQ because it is easier typing that 20 times a day instead of answereing the same questions with the same answers every other day.

If it's such a bind, don't respond. Even easier than typing FAQ.

I didn't respond to the original poster. I have no problem with the original poster's question. I would have answered it if Texxie had not already. 50/50 chance I would have answered it directly or told the original author to look in the FAQ.

The reason I started posting in this thread is as follows...... Maybe I am at an advantage because I read many of Texxie's posts in this forum. In faxt, there are probably 5 threads in this forum I have not read at one point or another. But I feel I know Texxies posting habits well enough to say that his 'check the FAQ' statemant was in no way whatsoever a personal attack, judgement or criticism of the original poster. Texxie saying the answer is in the FAQ means just that....the answer is in the FAQ. Question asked, question answered...no need for me to respond.

Later on, there is a post that begins to have overtones of making this thread personal. So what do we do? A couple of the CMs who post here explain why we sometimes answer the way Texxie did. Not to defend Texxie, becuase he didn't do anything wrong. Not because Texxie can't take care of himself on the forums, because he can. All we did was explain why we send people to the FAQ.

Then somebody says 'what a friendly bunch.' Guess what? The second person to throw a stone in this thread does so by trying to criticize the people who up until that point, did not make it personal. The word hypocrite comes to mind. Almost as bad as somebody saying they read the FAQ and stating the answer is not there when it is.

By the way, I'll admit that I'm crawling up into your bungus on this. I am no better than any other troll in this thread. But at least I have the guts to admit when I'm being an arsehat.

That's like saying the answer to 5+7 is a basic mathbook.

The poster saying looking in the FAQ, still stikes me as unfriendly. I can understand that it gets irritating seeing the same posts repeatably, but he should have either answer the question (and pointed out the FAQ) or let it go. I know I should also let it go, before you tell me. It's just a petpeeve of mine.

Have to say I have no idea what this means.......

Okay I apologise.

I suppose I'm as bad as the prats who leap down newbie's throat and rant about RTFM, FAQ or whatever.

Sheeze, who would've thought a simple response would start this...

Look, it's really easy to understand. He asked where the spider was located. I was going to do a big ol post about 'you can find the elusive spider in the FAQ' and throw in a *shifty* and a for good measure.

ButI got lazy, which I think i'm entitled to after the past weekend(New Years Eve party was fun ) and just left it at a simple 'In the FAQ'.

Someone wants to come back at me with some smarmy comment because they took it the wrong waywell, guess what? I give it right back at 'em. Figured I'd throw in the rant just to rant(venting=good) and there you have it.

Wasn't originally intending to be flippant, short, crass, rude or any other of the number of things folks would attempt to attribute to the 3 word post of mine in this thread. Simply a case of laziness winning out over humour...

*shrug* Like me, hate me, tolerate me...I don't care. Life is good for me right now regardless, so

Texxie stepped down a few weeks ago as the CM correspondent. PsionicHawk took over. Being a CM correspondent involves some....'challenges'.

It can be taken 2 ways. Texxie lured in some unsuspecting poster and then trapped him, or Texxie lured in some unsuspecting CM to be the new Corrand trapped him. Hence Psionc saying 'wait' after 'I'd hate to be that guy.'

Retiring as the CM corr is part relief, part feeling sorry for the new guy, and part feeling good the the new guy has a chance to carry on the torch. Psionic and Texxie are just having fun with each other at this point. No need to read anything else into it.
