Combat Medic Archive
Thread: SOE needs to get their act together.
Then again what do you need to get into Carbineer? One line of the Marksman tree.
What do you need to be a CM? One line of the Marksman tree AND Mastering the entire Medic tree.
CM's should outclass a straight Carbineer IMHO.
throw ranged stims.
go look up in that other thread where i was talking about EQ's Necro Twitching.
you get the idea?
oh and Elly, i think you should take a day off and get your thoughts settled on what you want. just going through your posts of the past day you seem a bit confused if you should be excited or in panic or both... ,)
If all they did was deal with balance issues and who "outclassed" whom we'd end up with cookie cutter characters with different levels of basically the same skills. I don't think CMs should "outclass" carbineers under all circumstances. If you want to throw down some wounds on a group of ppl CM is your man. If you want to throw down a decent DOT on a group, CM is your man. If you want to heal a group, CM is your man. If you want to blow the holy howling cr*p outta one person then the carbineer is your man. Just depends on the situation about who should "own".
That said I think the lower level CM stuff should do less damage, but also be less likely to be resisted. I don't mind if I can throw a poison DOT that doesn't do as much damage as my pistol DOT as long as the poison actually hits as effectively as the pistol. It'd be nice if they stacked to. CM has the ability to DOT any bar they want, carbineer can only DOT action. Hence CM is quite a bit more flexible than the carbineer.

Maybe Im getting a bit paranoid...cuz i know the nerf bat is coming...i feel hunted....
I am a bit paniced tho about the possiblity of a nerf to the class...we are really hurting as it is with some balance issues and what not ...i think many people here will agree...some reason i think the way SOE does things they will go whooops and drop the hammer on us and then forget about us for a while....
/cough
I guess I just find it strange that a medical profession, by virtue of it saying "combat" in front of it, is viewed by many as being at all a combat aggressor. We're intended to have a modicum of defensive capabilities, as you would somehow have to have to have gotten the ranged support expertise. As a medical practitioner, there is nothing about our profession, in the manual or elsewhere, that indicates we would ever be capable of mounting an offensive on our own. The fact that we have disease packs and the like is kind of misleading. We're not combattants, at least not by profession--instead, I believe a lot of you are taking up combat by choice and expecting your profession to support your decision. Somebody actually thinking at all that we should be as combat effective as an elite weapons user is really out of whack. To use an analogy (that in no way actually refers us to this video game): it's a little like marines training as corpsmen so they can take out snipers. If you want to compete with an elite weapons user, you should take up one yourself. Medicine is its own skillset though, that can't be adequately compared. This, I believe, is a case of allowing all the monikers, acronyms, and numbers, like DOT, HAM, Skill Points, etc... to obscure the core element of our job.
problem is, that people are aksingfor fixes (nerfs) to symptoms instead of the actualy broken stuff.
Mule, are you a CM? your sig does indicate that you are not.
let me state 2 of our titles: Chemical Warfare Expert & Toxicologist
we have 3 sets of tools:
Ranged Stimpacks (and their area version)
Disease Packs (and their area version)
Poison Packs (and their area version)
now just because we base of the medic profession should mean that we are primarily based on healing and not on damage?
2/3 of our toolsets say: wrong
2/4 of our class titles say: wrong
that one line in Marksman we have to take, that equals getting Master Marksman in efford says: wrong
every bit of healing a CM can do can be executed by a Master Medic if the group is experienced and has some discipline.
true i am guilty of asking for this fix before the broken stuff....
but still....SOE seems to respond to these calls for nerf and not calls for fixes....lol just look at out advanced components and med/large flora harvesters....ranged E anyone?
still im telling it im trying to head of the the nerf bat by proposing other methods to maintain dot effectiveness before the devs come in a just wipe it without consideration...
i mean look at the CH class right now....
i do look at the CH class right now and if they ever get their arse together at SoE/Lucas and make Pets permadie i will even think about playing a CH on some other server or a third account because the Profession just starts to look interesting instead of "send in 3 10k HAM Monsters with no efford on my side and reap the +25 skillgems of DJM without having to share with anyone else" that it was till last night.
oh no, wait, that was Pistoleers and BH chain KDing them to get those..
Okay, point taken, I guess I'll wait until I become a combat medic before attempting to be erudite on the subject. I didn't realise chemical warfare was so much a part of their kit before now.
