Why poison/disease should be powerful...

There is a direct counter to poison/dot. Doctors can cure it. Compare this to the say knockdown, panicshot, flameshot which are have no counters. Thus, there is no reason dots should not be powerful, because if you are with a doctor, there doctor can cure. Hence they should be powerful because there is a direct ingame timer.

Now I don't think dots should be a one hit kill. The way I always invisioned Dots was like this (granted the current pace of combat is way to fast for this to really be effective). They should do massive damage at a fairly slow rate. So while a dot will not kill you in 10-20 secs, if u let it run untreated for a min or so, it should kill anyone. Right now the damage and duration of the dots are such a joke. Compared to other Dots like bleed and flameshot, dots do nothing. I imagine dots more like the bleeds that are currently in game. Honestly bleeds are what dots are supposed to be. As we all know, bleeds are currently extremely powerful and will kill anyone that let a bleed go unattended.

How consider that inorder to be a combat medic we have to sacrifice 14 points in the ranged support as opposed to getting a weapon specialist and thus a HAM bleed, Dots should be as effective as bleeds. In fact as the CM progresses up the tree, a DoT should ultimately become more effective than any bleed in any advanced weapon class because unlike other weapon classes, in order to perform out dot/bleed, we have to craft. Which means flying all over the server looking for the proper material. On the other hand, a upper level weapon master will be able to pick up a CDEF and still bleed a person dry because of the damage bonuses on advanced bleeds.

The best way to look at DoTs in the CM line is as more versatile and ultimate more effective bleed since we have to use resources to perform our bleeds and also train in an entire class in order to gain access to the bleeds. Right now, any weapon specialist can dot more effectively than a CM using a lvl 1 bleed.

Now back to the case that CMs arent supposed to be combat oriented. This is a complete farce. Back in early beta, I remember hearing that CM required the complete mastery of the marksman tree as well as the medic tree basically making it as hard to get as BH. Granted this is not the case anymore. But the addition of ranged support is a clear sign that we are supposed to be combat oriented.

I think the argument that CM are expected to take a advanced weapon class is also incorrect. I again point to the example of the smuggler andcommando. Smugglers can just get pistol specialist and still function extremely well given their special moves and do not need anymore advanced weapons profession to make them effective. Commandos get specials weapon certs as well as all types of combat bonuses for their profession and do not need any other advanced weapons training in order to be effective (granted th commando class is broken right now making them ineffective). The only comparison could be drawn is that of squad leader, but even they get extremely high bonuses to defense and attacks as well as special abilities that make them and their grp mates much more effective in combat.

Now im not saying that the CM should be the ultimate damage dealers. Thats why i suggested special moves with little or no damage and just effects like attack delay or escape knockdowns, Granted knockdown can be spammed but if its not doing damage, what effect will it really have but draining ur ham bars? If u are KDing u arent healing doting or attacking so ineffective uve created a draw until u run out of HAM...again same with the attack delay.

I would have no argument for making our class pure ranged healers and calling us field medics, but then take out the combat component completely from CM. Get rid of the ranged support requirement and kick the dots out of the line and make us stem off master medic. This would basically make the class only useful for ranged heals. If you do this, then move revive into the CM class (yeah that will be popular with the doctors) and give use all the /cure and state packs and make the doctor basically a camp/med center character...like thats gonna work...

CM is not the besthealer during combat situations. Combat is more than just damage. Its about states, poisons and ultimately about raising the dead. Now given that doctors have these abilities, they are also very powerful combat healers but in an entirely different sense that we are. So im saying either make us total damage healers and combat healing gods and remove the combat from combat medic completely. Or make the points we invest in ranged support worth as much as what other classes are getting out of similar skill point investments.

3: Combat medic is not apure end-profession. A master combat medic has enoughskillpoints left to master another carrer too, be it doctor, pistoleer, carbineer, chef or what you feel for. The amount of combat you put into your combat medic is really up to you. If you choose to master doctor, naturally you will be going along the defensive line, there are no defensive skills or combat related skills besides the DoTs (broken yes, but thats beside the point) If you want more combat skills or bonuses you can easily get what you like by taking another line. There is nothing stopping you from doing a pick-and-mix from different professions if you want some middleground, do a bit of doc, a bit of pistoleer or whatever else suits you. The people currently claiming they get in trouble fighting and that they need some knockdown attacks or similar abilities are the people who chose not to take up a combat line. You should stop shooting at the mobs and focus on healing alone,(you chose not to wield a weapon effeciently and you have no need for combat exp!)this wayyou wont get agro from mobs, and if you do you should rely on your team to get it off you! A /shout Medic under attack! macro could be a solution for you. The only thing keeping the combat out of combat medic is your own templates!

Smugglers invest less points in their class in total and get more benefits out of it.

Commandos investthe same points into their classes and get unique weapon types complete with specials and combat bonuses.

Squad leaders spend less points then we do but get major combat bonuses and skills for their entire grp.

And yes combat medic is an end profession IMHO...should i be able to defeat a CM/pistoleer in a one on one duel? no i never said that. Will a pistoleer/CM be more effective in combat? yes....why? specials andcombat bonuses. Nothing I suggested in my thread really enhances our damage dealing abilities. Like you said we should be healers and support. Hence my suggestions were in line with that idea. We cant heal if we are Knockdown or prone. We cant heal if we are dead and incapped. Hence, a CM should be granted bonuses in the ranged and melee defense areas in order to do exactly what u say we should do keep our grp alive

> 2.) Master Medics are currently at least as efficient than Combat Medics at damage healing. if you went for CM for the Damage Healing, you can just drop it and stay with Master Medic.

Absolutely not true, in combat ranged heals beat regular ones hands down. I can (and could for a while) bring a player up to full with 1 heal, BUT - I don't need to chase them like doctor/master medic does.
And when in group with more then 2 people - you will spend more time chasing then healing, besides tight groups are easy to get into cone/AOE area to knock down all at once.

On to original topic: I think bugs need to be fixed first, and there are great liss for that, then CM will be very powerfull in combat, even more so by mastering combat profession to go with it.

im really tired of hearing that CMs are the best at combat healing.

Doctors are just as effective as CM in combat healing just in different ways...

last time checked a CM couldnt heal a 200+ wound disease dropped on you by a mob. forget your ranged stims then. all the heals in the world wont matter with that H bar are 1 health.

And CMs cant rez the ultimate combat healing ability.

Hence CMs are the best at what they do and that is heal damage...but combat isnt all about damage...

yup, combat medic is one of the hardest, most skill-point intensive classes in the game. They should be something special.

Poisions and diseases SHOULD be feared, as they have a direct counter (doctor) their damage should be right up there with the highest level bleeds.

Don't forget that in reality, if you're a CM, you're going to need artisan survey (ever seen fungus on the bazzar?). So you basically need 1 full medic tree, 1 line if marksman, and 1 line of artisan. That's a heck of a lot for just ranged heals and wimpy poisions.

We've earned this class. make it worthwhile.

If a combat medic is just intended to be very good at healing in the field, as opposed to a viable combatant, wouldn't it be more fitting to havethe non-medic prereq be explorationrather than ranged support?

And I did forget about suppression fire in my previous post, but as someone else said, it isn't working right now.

I agree with elenora about healing in the field. I find myself using doctor skills much more than CM skills while fighting with a group.

Sure, Ranged-heals save the day every once in a while. But rezzing does that MUCH more often. Not to mention the wounds. Actually, I think First Aid is the #1 lifesaver, and everyone has that.

You can hardly compare us to smugglers, besides, they make combat expCMs dont, and as such they gain combat abilitiesCMs dont. 100% fair

Commandos investthe same points into their classes and get unique weapon types complete with specials and combat bonuses.

Frontline combat profession, again combat exp = combat defence and abilities.Dont you consider DoTs and ranged heals a profession unique ability?

Squad leaders spend less points then we do but get major combat bonuses and skills for their entire grp.

As above.

So one more time: WE DONT MAKE COMBAT EXP! we get no combat abilities! We are not a combat class but primarily healers with support abilities (DoTs)!

No we cant heal if we are prone or knockdowned, but neither can we if we spam knockdown on a mob so what good would this skill do?if you get agroed its 95% if the time because you shoot/attack a mob yourself, so if youre not in a career alongside CM that gives you combat abilities, dont shoot/attack! you dont need the combat exp and you will be a bad healer if you go down trying to shoot at stuff. If you dont initiate combat and get attacked chances are someone in your team (if not all) will attack whatever attacked you and get agro to switch.

The real point here is in the combat experience Elenora, not in how we can get out of trouble, becaue as long as we get no advancement in combat exp we wont get any combat abilities at all. Now where is that branch in the CM tree that runs on Combat exp? Right, its not there... end of discussion.

Please reread message I replied to (or at least the part I quoted)

Combat medic is better then doctor in damage healing (same healing powers but at range).
Doctor has utility that CM does not have (wound healing and revive).
CM has utility that Doctor does not have (damage in combat)
Doctor is better then Combat Medic outside the battle (better wound healing and buffs)

I agree that docs are valuable in the field, Status attacks are a bugger, HAM-enhancers are fantastic, rezzing awesome, docs are needed in the battlefields as much as CMs. But you dont see the docs complainting about lack of combat skills do you? Perhaps they figured out how not to get agro in combat

Yes I do, and a high quality too (that's beside the fact that all you need is FRIEND artisian who will get some for you)

Also I see too many people (I only assume they are new) forget it's MMORPG - the point of the game is to communicate with other people, not be self-sufficient. Find any novice artisian standing doing seemingly nothing - offer him 6c per fungus - you will have enough for 100 stimpacks by the time you done healing people in med center.

> So you basically need 1 full medic tree, 1 line if marksman

Well there is your problem right there - what did you do with other line ? The one that grew as you were using weapon (I assume you did not grenade your way up to CM ) If you were to keep it you will be EXCELLENT in combat.

I still don't get why everyone expects CM's to be Rambo?

Not all professions are created equal. Just get used to that. If you want to heal and fight and don't like CM, just be a master medic and go up one of the other combat trees.

With that said, I agree with a lot of stuff that Elenora put down (as usual I guess :smileyhappy

Um, Stimaddict, were you aware that we will, in fact, be getting Combat Xp for healing? It's on Test Center at this very moment and slated to go live within the next few weeks or sooner.

So healers WILL be getting Combat XP.
