Noob question. On the trees it mentions that this skill costs so many skill points. We don't earn skill points right? Everyone has a pool of 250 or 350 and it is just subtracted from that right? We only earn expand have to meet that requirement and have enough skill points to acquire the new skill.

Let me know if I am misunderstanding this.

True, Skill points are just a measure of how close to maxing your character out you are. You can surrender skills at any time to regain skill points but you lose any xp you put into them.

All characters, of any species (everyone gets 225 I believe, cant remember the exact num but this is close), will be able to completely master three areas and dable in another. This is just an example of what you cando ifyou wanted to master as much as you could, YMMV

I just want to understand this...I'm a marksmen but have Artisian and Medic as part of my list. I can essentially master all three of these disciplines and have a few skill points left over to dable in...let's say...entertainer? Am i understanding this.

Sorry for sounding elementary...I just want to be clear. Thanks for any help!

Ok, page 76 of the manual: "Different skills have a different learning capacity "cost," but all characters can gain complete mastery in three full professions and dabble in a fourth."

btw, you start with 250 skill points

Ok, I'm not too sure if I should put the extra SP's in ranged support 1-4 or not, can anyone help me?

That depends. What is your current template? The only thing I found useful in Ranged Support was WarningShot and ThreatenShot. But only while grinding up. Once I got Master there wasn't much of a use for it. Aim was also useful in the grind.

One thing I forgot about. A number of Riflemen would say get Ranged Support IV for SuppressionFire. You can combine that with the Dizzy attacks we get to force a posture change and make the target do the flopping fish syndrome. However it only works on humanoid type targets. I never had lots of luck with SuppressionFire so didn't use it. I ended up getting Smuggler and use LowBlow for the KD to do the same thing. It seems to work more often.

MD-MCM will leave you with 14 SP left over, which is just enough to get pistols/carbines/rifles 4 in marksman. In fact, as I understand it, that is pretty much your only options (unless you want 2214 marksman or something...).

Since you can't get novice brawler with 14 SP, you can not pick up any melee skills.

Actually you have 18 skill points left over. This is still obly enough to get to level 4 in a marksman skill. You will not have enough for anything above level 1 in a brawler skill because novice brawler will cost you 15 skill points.

Here are the most common templates with MCM/MD:

Pistols-4, Rifles-1, Carbine-1

Rifles-4, Carbine-1, Pistol-1

Carbine-4, Rifles-1, Pistol-1

Pistols-3, Rifle-3

Switch between Novice Artisan or Novice Scout or Novice Brawler depending on whether you are surveying, hunting, or PvPing.
