Thread: Is the Combat Medic Overpowered?

This is heavily debated among the nerf-criers, the power-mongers, etc.

There is an old saying, but I'm ignorant so I'll paraphrase: "You will not know the path another walks until you walk the path yourself."

I became a Combat Medic because I loved healing from Everquest, and because I wanted an effective way to combat defense stackers.

It took me MUCH longer than 5 hours to get Master Combat Medic, which some people say is the norm. I don't know what you people are doing to get experience, but please share it with the rest of us.

So what do I do then? Ah ha! I shall make the "uber" poisons and diseases I have heard so much about...

I played for a week, doing nothing but look for resources. Having managed to only find 3 of the 6 resources to make the COMPONENTS of the poisons (not the poisons themselves), 2 of which being very weak, and the 3rd ridiculously overporiced, I bought myself a factory and commenced to pump out the 5 poisons I could afford to make.

So I have slightly less-than-uber poisons? I'm still a TK 4-1-4-3, so I'm still good in a fight.

PvP time! Our city gets attacked by rebels. I'm an idiot and forget my poisonsin my factory. So what, I've still got my AoE heals right?

Good, they have a Combat Medic on their side, now I can learn new tactics. I want you to understand something: I am not stupid enough to stand beside my friends while the CM is chucking AoE poisons at us. In fact, most of my guildies aren't either. So, out of 10-15 of us, only 2 get poisoned. I /follow the Combat Medic, /burst, and kill him easily. Needless to say, it was a relatively short fight that our guild easily won.

I got to use my poisons in a fight before I actually quit Combat Medic, I managed to incap one guy of the 5 I poisoned before they DBed me, the others meditated away their poison because <gasp> they are all Teras Kasi

The moral of the story? Combat Medic might seem overpowered to people who are going to stand there and get poisoned, or diseased, or whatever. Combat Medic might seem overpowered to people who never experience being one.

Combat Medics pay a lot of time and money into making themselves powerful, moreso than most other professions that I can think of. They pay a price for the power that you think they easily aquire. If you are in a raid, and the only tactic you use is zerging, then you deserve to have your whole group incapped by a single poison.

Let the flames come, I don't care anymore now that I know how difficult being a Combat Medic really is.

can't really spread out when a group is trying to take down a base, and it so annoying to get poisoned through walls on the bottom floor of the base when the CM was on the top level. I know this is not CM's fault but the games fault just saying its annoying

If I die in pvp 90% of the time it's due to a single combat medic causing more than half the damage.
That in itself isn't a problem but when it's me and 20 other people all at the same time it becomes one.
Either take a 75% pvp reduction like everyone else or stop it from being an AoE.

My story is a little bit different. I was a Master TK, Master Doc back in November. I wanted to start going after holocrons to try & open Jedi. However, before I started that, I wanted to try Combat medic first. I dropped TK, and using the healing XP I had maxxed out, I buffed a few people, did some crafting, and I was a master CM a few hours later.

Our PA is intelligent, and has established Master crafters in each class. (I'm one of the best AS on server myself) I went to our CM crafter, picked up some psycho poisons & diseases, and went to town.

My first reaction to the class was: Wow. TK was very powerful, but CM was unbelievably abusable. You just have to play it smart, and you can decimate people, esp in base wars. For a lot of combat, we setup a forward line of CM's, Docs, and Riflemen. CM's toss at 76-88m with our poisons, darting up, & back out. If anyone chases us, the Riflemen target them, & take them out. If they send a lot of people against us, we rain down poison & disease, and evac. As they chase us, the poison/dis tick away. The people that burst get pwned by the riflemen. The ones that don't back off will die to the rifles after hitting 0 mind in about 16 seconds.

It's almost too easy. Just gotta abuse it right.

Master CM in a few hours... Spent another hour buying all the resources I need. Another hour crafting my final products. Instantly could handle any other elite combat profession without issues.

MCM - 169 pts
Master Elite Combat - 92pts
Master 2 Elite Combat Ranged or melee - 169pts
Master 1 Elite Melee and 1 Elite Ranged - 184pts

The Elite Combat professions recieve various defences and offensive abilities, but a MCM only recieves 2 offensives abilities and zero defensive ones. Yet the MCM is ruining the game as will are deemed overpowered.

Many indicate that the MCM is akin to heavy artillery support, perhaps but we have other abilities which define our class.

Before you run off and decide to cry of the nerf, look at the class as a whole.

The reason why everyone is mad at CM's at the moment is cause after they kill us they are still getting the disease and poison tick.

Yeah, all the defense stackers are crying nerf because they think like OM FG i should be invulnerable with my 210 dodge and +150 ranged and melee defense and my super buffs!!!!!. They are pissed because poison can kill them plain and simple.

Nothing is wrong with combat medic it should stay the way it is. Dont want to be poisoned? Take a few Master Doctors along in your group. I say leave the Combat Medics alone, because unlike the other proffesions they have to HARVEST or BUY their resources to MAKE thier stuff, just like us Doctors.

Hell, if they nerf CM's the should nerf doctor and dancer buffs too then.

KEEP CHUGGIN ALONG YOU CM'S!!! DONT LET THE NERF CRIES GET YOU DOWN!!!!

I remember before the 75% damage reduction in pvp I got killed by BH's eye shot in 2 hits poison killed me in 2 ticks but no one used it because it was too much work for the SAME result. Now it takes eye shot takes 10-20 hits to kill me, but the CM poison still kills me in 2 ticks, thats why people use it now, you get BETTER results than a combat class. Before you didn't. the 75% reduction was not to give you an edge the devs are jsut slow. Its been 6 months and they jsut fixed the carbineer spelling for heven sake.

for those of you who say its only fair becase you have to make your own stuff well as a pure combat class I would love to make my own weapons but I can't unless I become a weapon smith, you get a choice pure combat classes don't get.

Ummm.. yeah, but it would take 20 seconds for those 2 ticks. An MBH should be able to get in 20 eye shots in that same time frame for more damage, so I'm not sure I see the point there.

I just posted this on another thread and thought it may be relevant here also.

Why does everyone pick up the 'Combat medics poison me' line - I am fast approaching master CM and I have used in total 1 poison stim pack (and that was so week it took me all the thing to poison a Wamp Rat) - I have however spent many happy weeks running madly around battle fields and hunting groups risking life and limb to heal my comrades whilst firing off the odd shot with my Carbine.

I have had a blast, I am a combat medic, I help people whilst on the front line (I have a drag /heal macro set up) I enjoy the role and I think I have a good name on my server as a good field medic.

On a whole though I think people only look at the Combat Medics ability to poison. Alot of people think I'm a Jedi when I heal mind and at the least are confussed when I do, also when I tear across the area withnear thehighest possible terrain negotiation in the game with out any mods.

So I ask does anyone really know what they are moaning about?

People are complaining about state effects that can be given out by many things nowadays; Items and Creatures alike. So before people complain about CM's please think...Am I complaining about the class or the fact that I got beat? Because if it is the later you just need to get over it and accept that some classes can do things that others cannot - Hell I cant kick the hell out of an ATST like a commando - but I can kick the hell out of a commando, so it all evens out. Archietects cant solo Krayts, but they can build huge halls and houses.

If you dont like a class it is through jealousy that they beat you, if you dont like loosing then get better, get poison resists, get a doctor on your side to heal you, kill them first, become a CM, get a Creature that poisons, think for your self....or just whinge until it gets changed...Cos this game will rock when we all are fighting with sponge guns.(Weren'tguns that fired spongemade by a company called NERF? Hmmmm coincidence or not?)

my point Zarlor, is simply that in the context of pvp combat medics before 75% reduction did 10x less damage per second than combat classes now they do the same or even more, this is a huge change in balance. I'm not saying it is totaly unbalance, rather the class went from a support to a front line combat class over night. At the same time armor got better, defenses got huge mitigation was implimented but nothing was done about CM's you guys never had it better. The Devs have added tons of defenses for regular combat classesand now there is a food that blocks 100% of damage for several hits but there is still nothing for poisons. You see in pvp CM's are overshadowed by all the pure combat classes where in pvp it is almost the other way around, there isa lack ofconsistancy.
