Thread: Advice for the remaining points after Master Doc/Master CM

Hey all,

I've been a Doc for ages and thought I'd also take up Combat Medic for a bit of fun. I plan on mastering CM and keeping Master Doc.

I'm just wanting some comments and suggestions as to what to do with the remaining skill points, as I really don't mind and will probably go with something that appeals to me.

I was thinking ranged support 4 which would leave me enough to go to 4 in either pistols/carbine or rifles. I've been a pistoleer and carbineer and both were fun, so I was thinking maybe rifles 4.

How effective is rifles 4 say vs carbines 4 or pistols 4 (might be more appropriate on the marksman boards) or does it not really make much difference. I'm just wondering if the skills and type of weapon from one of these trees may compliment Combat Medic more than another.

How very curious, I've just come here to ask exactly the same question

I am Master Doc and Master CM, I am mostly an assist character, ya know keep them all alive. Poison to kill quicker. As far as I can tell Rifles is the only one to go for if you are doing PVP simply because of the mind/head shots that you get even from 4004, however I am currently workign on getting my rifles up to that level and am finding that as far as damage goes I am capable of two types, none and nearly none. There are no real decent guns available to you at that level and you are probably stuck with a speed sliced laser rifle because you simply are not going to be able to fire at any sensible rate with a damage slice.

I have already done 0404 Marksman which gave me pistols and I found it to be oki, against MOBs I switched my mind poison to health poisons and just bled and body shot2'd them. The bonus with this profession being that you don't have to deal with heavy cost on your mind, which as a rifleman you always do, it allows you to wear hefty armour without your mind running down due to specials.

Imho the question rreally is PVP or PVM? Who knows I may fall in love with marks 4004 but so far I'm not enjoying it.

There ya go, thats my two cents. Now for some real peoples opinions

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate any input and found it helpful. I probably would do more PvE than PvP and I realise I'm not going to be doing great deals of damage. Not really knowing much about CM I just wondered if one would compliment more than another.

Having marksman level 4 skill in any of the lines is not that useful. If you are doing PvE, as mentioned earlier, pistols is probably the best line. Access to the most damage types, you fire at a reasonable speed and HAM cost, you don't have the problem of your specials draining from your own needed mind pool (especially because you can buff your health and action), and health is as good a pool to target as any in PvE. In PvP, I've been told that rifles, even with their limitations at level 4 marksman, are *the* way to go because of mind damage, but I can not speak to this as I do limited PvP. I would wager that you will want to find the lightest and fastest rifle you can get (you won't need AP, as your primary attack will be the poison), but that is just a hunch.

Keep in mind that if you do MD-MCM, you will be almost entirely dependent of being with other people to do things. People will love you for PvP, you will be of limited use in PvE (noticably, but not exceptionally, more useful than a straight MD or MCM), but you will not be able to do that much soloing. There is nothing wrong with that, just be sure to make your choice with both eyes open.

Additional comments, re pistols. If you do choose pistols you can still solo and you can solo some fairly hairy mobs. With the stackable effects of the health poisons and a semi decent bleed and bodyshot2 you 'll do oki as a solo player, but as Jfangjust mentioned you'll be better in a group. And you will allow the group to succeed where previously they had no hope. My advice would be to try both out, even try Carbs out as well, it doesn't take long to to get up any of those trees really. As son as you pick the one you like, get yerself a great gun.

My current weapon of choice is

Scout Blaster 1.6 102-240, kinda levels the odds a little in my favour. But obviously always remember back ups to deal damage that is specific to vulnerabilities.

If your serious about MCM/MDOC and need something to supplement it for PvP, get rifles 4. No don't use a laser. You should carry 1 weapon and only 1 weapn, a Krayt Jawa Ion Rifle. At lvl 4 marksman you would probably want to get it speed sliced. Use expert head shot. This is the best PvP damage you can dish out, ap1 stun, mind dmg.

Get Novice Artisan then Survey 1. Buy some survey food (that will get your mods to survey 2) and survey for your own resources to make poison/disease packs and your doctor meds, sell them and be a rich mofo like me

BZZZZ, wrong answer. Rifle 4 is okay, but find a rifle with the highest possible accuracy mod, because without it, you'll never hit anything in PVP. You only need to do a few points of damage, so anything will do, really. One good choice is getting some good speed tissues, and using them to make a fast E11 rifle with an advanced stock, which should put the ideal range mod at around +75

Personally I think carbines is the way to go.

You won't hit a barnyard at 5m with just rifles IV, damn near the same sad story with pistols IV except you'll do even less dmg.

To me carbine IV seems the better route.

The reality is, it won't make a huge bit of difference.

I've had this combo before, used to think to myself, well if I can only get them down to taht 1 point, easy how hard can 1 point be to take down... HAHAHA.... It can be a helluva alot harder than you might think. I've had running fights go on for 10+ minutes when I had this combo just trying to get that last 1 blasted point.

It's far more worthwhile to focus your energy on how to not get attacked in the first place. And how to effectively cringe in fear behind others.

Or how to play the "rear".

The point is, it doesn't really matter what you choose, it's all gonna suck.

Go with pistols or carb as speed to get last point of damage in is better

I'm MD/MCM and I use rifles. Problem is, in order to be able to shoot anything I have to be 30-50m away, which takes me out of healing range (for everything but ranged/area heals, of course). Also, if you're in combat your lag will heal, so if you're like me you /peace before healing anyways. If you're hunting with a group, you don't need to worry about putting out damage with a gun. Forget about it, you suck at it anyways. If you really want to shoot stuff, keep a pistol on hand so you don't have to go out of healing range.

But if you'd rather solo, I'd recommend a rifle. Then being out of range is a good thing.

Once you've invested just about every last skill point in MD/MCM, you're not going to have enough left over to be a ranged offensive force.

I'd say go with carbines or pistol as a last ditch defensive measure only. Your only real offensive power is poison/disease cannisters; your primary role is support to people with serious combat templates.
