No, I have no use for master doctor. I gained enough doctor skill to buff myself, and everything else is in pistol. As I gain enough XP for pistoleer, I drop something from doctor
I agree. A doctor/CM combo is way too highly overrated... especially considering the upcoming changes (ie: poisons stopping at +1 HAM, CM subcomponents being moved)
Interestingly enough, if you look at the (now out-of-date and quite inaccurate) Prima strategy guide you would see that the CM/Doc combination would not have even been possible.
Not having been a beta tester, i really don't know if CM's really were originally required to actually master the Marksman prof. But knowing that at some point someone thought we should have to gives a little more credence to the idea that we are in fact a combat class ![]()
Any beta's (though aren't we all, lol) know if it was that way at one time? And if so, why was it changed? To allow for the CM/Doc combination?
One of the reasons that many combat medics do pick up at least some doctor is that /revive and /enhance in particular are incredibly useful field skills andthey already have the pre-reqs for doctor. It is not as common for master doctors to pick up combat medic skills (since dabbling benefit is limited).
There are many more effective templates for people that just want to be a poisoning/killing machine than master doctor/master combat medic, but that combo does give a nice balance of usefullness in PvP and PvE, group or solo, though it is definitely most useful in group settings.
Combat medics don't really have a lot of options for a secondary profession. Basically they can take doctor, pistoleer or carbineer (or rifleman, but that's hard on the mind). This is mostly because the Medic profession doesn't qualify you for very much.
I fact, I think Combat Medic is possibly the most restrictive profession in the game as far as a useful secondary profession goes. If a master combat medic wants to be reasonably effective with a weapon they need at least some pistoleer or carbineer, which leaves insufficient points for anything else worthwhile.
Even a Bounty Hunter has more options for useful allocation of leftover points (Pistoleer, Carbineer, Medic, Ranger, Creature Handler, and Squad Leader) since "dabbling" in non-combat professions works better if your primary profession gives strong combat skills.

Not sure if this was ever the case, but I do know this guide is the most horrid one I've ever seen (and the most expensive). It also can't decide if you have to master brawler or marksman to get BH (it's marksman). It references an appendix of schematics that doesn't exist. The list goes on, but those are some of the worst - and now that it's out of date it's that much more worthless (that much I did expect
).
Enough about the guide... I just topped out my character and went with Artisan 0-0-0-2, Pistoleer 0-2-0-0, Doctor 0-4-3-0, and Master CM. I love the buffs for Doctor, they're worth the skill points there. I would have liked cure poison/disease, but it was more important to me to be able to fight, and survey for resources than cure poison. And there was no way I was going to do ANOTHER crafting tree
.
This is my target template...
Medic 4,4,4,4
Marksman 0,0,0,4
Combat Medic 4,4,4,4
Scout 4,0,4,1
Creature Handler 4,4,0,0
will prolly change with the CH nerfs i mean updates...
