Thread: Do Diseases even work in PvE?

I was on Dant last night, and since I cannot use Poison on a MOB for fear that the poison will deliver the death blow and we won't get XP ro be able to harvest/loot, I decided to start tossing a Quickness poison C to see if that might make some difference. I wasn't getting aggroed on much, as we had some pets that could keep aggro, so I just walked up to the beastie after it had been diseases and started using /diag on it throughout the fight (and yes, it did have the diseased state indicator on it.)

I could see what health and Action wounds it was taking (fairly small) from fighting the bets and being shot. But Quikness wounds never went below 1. It was easily a 3-5 minute fight and even thought that disease was one of the first things that got tossed onto it, it never took any wounds there. It should have ticked quite a few times, but nothing.

Has anyone else noticed an problems with secondary diseases?

Right now I feel completely useless as a CM, except for Ranged and AoE healing. Can't poison, and Disese doesn't even seem to work. I'm at a total loss. If this is the case, then I'm beginning to think that ovether than for PvP, CMs are just a broken a profession as Commando or BE has been.

Yes, I am a Master Combat medic who is rapidly coming to the opinion I made a big mistake in deciding to master this class. Since I don't PvP, most of the skills are either just out and out broken or pretty well useless in PvE. I guess I'll go Master Doctor and keep some CM skills for ranged healing rather than vice versa, as I had planned.

Interesting...

This leads me to theorize that MOBs have no secondary stats, as such it is not a problem with the disease but with PvE combat overall. I mean when was the last time a MOB regenerated or used a special ability, as such there is no need for the secondary stats. I don't think you can kill with disease so if it already has 0 quickness then it can not get wounds in that area. If this is the case then Combat Medic was TRULY meant to be a PvP class in respect to those abilities....

However Iam optimistic that CMs will get the experience/FP for killing with poisons soon.

like Psionic said, mobs don't seem to have secondary stats and they sure don't need them.

primary stat diseases work in PvE

also, i never had the problem of not getting exp if i poison the thing i am shooting and i can harvest just fine, no matter what got the killing touch - bleed, poison or direct damage.

anyway, what is the point of using a 100 wound-damage / 15 secdisease in PvE? most stuff dies so fast that a disease could not do 500 damage and most people do more with 1 shot, the one shot you are missing out by applying the disease..

I am fairly sure if the killing blow is poison you do not get credit for the kill. If you shoot at it, make it bleed, and poison it, odds are it will die from your shots or bleeds.

i am pretty sure, i was lying there incapped last night once due to the **edit** animation bug and the bleed went off way before the poison killed it and i got exp for every single mob that fell down while i was taking my break.

actually i had a mob on talus use pistoleer specials on me...and no he wasnt taking damage from using them either.. cause i was running my ass off at the time peaced and his HAM bars never moved...so they use the skills but it doesnt cost them anything to do it.

Zarlor, you need to clarify your post. You say you were tossing poisons then ask if diseases work. Poisons won't cause wounds (or at least not significant wounds like diseases), they just drain HAM.

Yeah, actually if you read I start by saying that since I won't toss poisons (then I said I tossed a Quickness poison). That's actually3 clues that I miswrote Quickness Poison in that the titel states diseases, the first part of the sentence rules out the use of poison and there is no such thing as a Quickness Poison only Disease.

Sorry if that confused anyone.

As for MOBs not having secondaries. There may be some validity to that, but something about being a pet gains them secondaries at least, since pets do regen and buffing secondaries can visibly improve those regen rates on them. /diag does also show that they have secondary stats to some extent, in that i was showing 1 wound there, but it may be that it always shows only 1 wound there, I didn't double-check on that.

As for the poison DB thing. I have had a definitive problem with this. I have been grouped with folks before, Normally I can toss a Health Poison (the standard since my groupmates primarily use pistols and pets who will hit health more often than anything else.) Sometimes, ofen enough to be an extreme annoyance and to have my groupmates asking me NOT to poison, we will be unable to loot or harvest whatever it is that I have poisoned. On even rare occasions it will seem that nobody will get any XP for somthing I have poisoned.

I may be misreading the death coming from the poison as the problem (and these issues do sometimes show up with bleedds for other folks on rarer occasiions from what Ihave seen). Perhaps it is because the Poison has done the majority of the damage, or at least some significant percentage of the damage. I'm not really sure.

All I can say is that if I do poison I take a fairly significant risk of disallowing myself or my group harvest/loot rights and possible XP as well. Poison is the only common factor I have been able to find in all of the situations where this has occured.

As long as conventional damage is inflicted on the mob it will yield xp and be lootable; poison making the killing blow doesn't affect anything.

I know for certain that all of the ptes definitely have secondary stats and they do affect them. I don't normally, fo rexample, buff Str or Quick on a pet, though, because I don't think they use much in the way of "specials" during attacks to hurt themselves that way. I definitely buff Con and Stamina, though, since the regen rate gain for them is very noticeable.

As for special costs on NPV MOBs, I'm just not positive on that one yet. I know I have seen NPCs USE specials, but there is usually so much else going on it is difficult to determine for certain if it gave itself any damage from the special or not. I may have to try this oiut on some chucker brawlers or something and see if I can figure it out sometime.
