Thread: Grrrrr Town Cap System

My guild has the misfortune or living on Naboo and we've just become eligable for rank 4 however (you guessed it) the Naboo on my server has reached its cap, even though some of the towns are dead or near dead. And by the looks of it every planet on my server is capped to the brim.

Surely if you can place a city hall you should be able to grow your town to whatever size? I really can't believe a such a first-come-first-served system is employed here. If you can place a city hall: your town should be able to grow to whatever size.

Given the system in it's current state (I'm not including in the Hurricane relief here) we're never going to be able to get our shuttleport so, please, until the house/player clean up happens can we have the caps removed or altered?

I've heard that its "all ready to go" but they "don't know how to break the news to us"

Quite frankly: we just want our shuttleport and think the system is rather unfair in this regard

I have played Ulitma Online for 77 months now ( not as active since i bought SWG 3 months ago). On UO once and account goes inactive......not paying......for 90 days then houses owned on that account start a 5 day decay. After 5 days then everything in the house disappears. I can believe all the houses in this game that are still here. How does this benefit the active people that actualy still pay SOE.

I am hoping the whole house pack-up thing is the start to the inactive cleanup.

/pray

well there used to be an old system where you put money in houses and after that money went the house disappeared, so houses did used to go unlike now

I wish I had seen this thread before I started my own.

My guild is in the exact same situation, and on the exact same planet - Naboo.

Unless inactive accounts are pulled from citizenship lists, the size and shuttleport caps need to be pulled so that those of us actually playing the game right now can have living, breathing cities.

-------
- We see it time and time again in the so-called "content" the developers throw at us. This ain't Star Wars. It's some rip in the space-time continuum that spawned a parallel universe in which Order 66 went horribly-wrong and thousands of Jedi babies got smuggled away like Luke to be raised elsewhere, and now they are all coming of age and making holy terrors of themselves on the normal population for having turned on them a generation ago.

hehe no worries and I bumped up your thread too.

Can we get any sort of official response? I tried to PM a few devs about this but my PMs have gone unread (no shock there then)

I think the easiest way for this cleanup is to use the new House Pack-up and have the house stored within the inactive players datapad. That way you won't have people complaining about their items being destroyed when the houses are removed.

These inactive players will have to find a new place for their house when and if they return to the game.

I support changing the old and now stupid town cap systems since they decided to allow for dead metropolises to stand and ruin cities for real active players.

I don't removing the caps is the solution. I the caps are removed, there will be cities everywhere. What should happen, is a city should require X amount of votes weekly, or monthly to stay alive. If those votes aren't being made, then the city starts to downgrade.

Letting go of caps will only create more database problems. The devs need to just stop catering to people and let houses, factories, and harvesters destroy themselves when not maintained. For the people who quit and figure they'll come back, they can just pack their crap up and store it in the bank if they don't want to lose it.

I am personally hoping that the final implementation of the "Packup" system is the sign that dead cities will start to disappear.

My hope is that an account that is inactive for 60 days or more has it's viable structures packed up and placed in the characters datapad. Anything else that can't be packed up is destroyed, end of story.

This would have the affect of removing citizens and structures from towns, the towns would loose standing citizenship, and decrease in rank till they too are removed by the planetary authority.

Also, I've been looking around, there are some cities who do not even have money in their treasury. They should be gone as well based on the system as it was implemented, but it hasn't happened. They are just outposts now taking up viable building space.
